I like the storyline, but the gameplay and graphics could use atleast a little working.
To summarize the information we know about the story, [sp]Apparently a organization called the Mindkill is weaking everyone's minds via standard media like TV and computers in preparation for a massive attack that will have them controlling the world, and a certian person/organization/??? reaches you and others (called Recievers) via Cassette tapes to help you figure out the situation. [/sp]
also, anyone figure out the song used in the launch trailer, or is it a custom track?
[sp] the MindKill is the event that caused all of this, it was done by "The Threat" that used some background noise in mainstream media to blind our minds so that we cannot achieve our true potential or something to that effect. As a receiver, you survived the MindKill (or has it not happened yet?) and you have to collect the tapes to get a grasp on the full story. The Threat has "dreamed" up the killbots to stop us because The Threat cannot exist normally in the reality in which this takes place, which I think is reality B. Reality A is the Shadow Reality or something. [/sp]
So far I have heard 7 different tapes.
[sp]Gotta find em all![/sp]
I've only ever managed to find one tape.
I found four tapes in one run but two of them I had already heard.
I get strong System Shock vibes from this game for some reason
I hope they continue to expand and update on this. More enemy types, objectives, a few additional weapons (even just one rifle or shotgun or something), and possibly some hands (and maybe legs and torso so that you can check your magazines and other weapons in a jacket/holster/bandoleer) to at least add a bit more immersion to it, tooooooooons of potential.

Isn't there some console games that do that? (Like The Darkness, or something?) I.E you look down into your jacket and see your entire inventory in your trench jacket.
I really adore the idea of that + gun jamming and such that Zezibesh mentioned. I would play the shit out of that.
EDIT: Yes, you're right, Alone in the Dark
Obviously you can't have guns jam too often or else it'd just be like playing Far Cry 2.

Alone In The Dark
Less content? The fuck 60 dollar game are you talking about? And don't give me that bandwagon sheeple shit "MODERN WARFARE HERP" because, whether you like it or not, it has, for many people, hundreds of hours of content.
the same hundreds of hours of content reused from 5 years ago?
Wouldn't mind giving this game a go one day
Obviously you can't have guns jam too often or else it'd just be like playing Far Cry 2.
As long as clearing the jams is more complex than just pressing a button and waiting, it should be interesting.

Or only have like a 5 - 10 % jam if you shoot REALLY fast.
As long as clearing the jams is more complex than just pressing a button and waiting, it should be interesting.
Have em be cleared how the jam would be cleared in real life.

tap rack bang?
iirc that's what the creator of ZMBE 2.0 is trying to do, I'll have to ask him about it though :P
I shot the tazer out on a tazebot and I was stuck with a dysfunctional, buzzing travelling companion for about five minutes until I found a bullet and put it out of it's misery.

You try to shoot a droid and your gun explodes in your hands.
Also, imagine a sequel to Black Shades with these mechanics.
I think it's useful that E is pull out the mag and drop it. I've had situations where a flying bot is chasing me, and I'm tapping w the whole time so I find it hard to change mags. But I can simply double tap e to drop the mag, then double tap the number for the mag and then press t if it was empty and im all good.
HOW TO KILL TURRETS:
Place a round in the camera (risky, but you know when you've hit it atleast)
Place a round in the green thing (gun) (it's not clear to see if you've succeeded, but when you have it'll just follow you with the camera.)
Place a round in motor (will still be able to shoot, but not track you)
Place a round in its fat arse. It completely disables the turret. But sometimes bullets ricochet and have no effect, so try to be straight on at it or shoot it from above.

One of the tapes says you can shoot the gun, motor, camera or batteries. So I guess the batteries are in the big side of the brown casing, because it just shuts it down.
I find it a lot harder to shoot down the flying bots. Shooting them in the white casing seems to work but it's hard to hit when they're flying at you. I think I shot out their rotors once, which I'm never doing again because after it fell to the floor, I walked past it and it shocked my ass.
Pro-tip: Turrets can still shoot a chambered round after disabling what I assume is the gun.
tap rack bang?
Yeah something like that.
This would be really fun in a game like DayZ though. A proper panic simulator.
What on the turrents are you supposed to shoot to disable them? Or at least the gun?
It seems like it takes every bullet I have to knock out one.

Shoot them in the gun and you can stop it from firing. Shoot the camera and it can't see you. Shoot where the gun connects to the tripod and it will be stuck looking at the floor.
its easiest to just shoot the turret's camera because it is such an easy target
the battery pack in the back seems to be bulletproof and not always does shooting the gun disable it
it's not hard to shoot at the camera
it doesn't take me more than 3 rounds to hit it unless I'm having a bad luck streak
I think this game could have potential as multiplayer, like 1v1 or free-for-all. Maybe make the tilesets more less linear so one player isn't sandwiched between 2 others.
Oh my god I hate those flying bots so much right now. I got 10 freaking tapes! So I thought I'd put on fraps in case something interesting happens when you get 11. Then immediately get donned by a fucking taser bot.

As long as it has blood percentage and not an arbitary health value aswell.
there really ought to be another weapon
I'm thinking a scoped bolt action, so you can deal with threats from a distance. usually disables in 1 shot but ammo is rare
Also, a shotgun. That acts like a real shotgun with buckshot. So if a tazer bot is chasing you, switch to the shotgun and blast him to hell. Ammo is relatively rare but the shotgun isn't always in the map, while the bolt action is.
This game can be so much more.
Also, humanoid automatons with tazers. Slow and zombie like, can easily be dispatched of but it'd be more of a strategic choice.
They'd follow you slowly however, and two cameras or some shit so you can't just put one round in one to make it blind.

Multiplayer mode: Fliers VS Receivers.
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
Alternatively turrets too.
[editline]19th June 2012[/editline]
As many more have said, game could be so much more.
Really hope they either open source it or make a sequel or remake or some shit.
Why is this game so demanding? My computer starts freaking out and heats up pretty quickly while playing this.
It made my laptop overheat the first time I played it :(
I haven't looked at the 3 pages, but if I pre-order Overgrowth, let's say, now, would I still get Receiver?
