On each teleport, make them make a sound. Think Nightcrawler, but with a sound that resembles something like a speed-of-sound breaking
There is a sound from a visual novel called Umineko No Naku Koro Ni that your description puts me in mind of.....
Just remove their damn water weakness. It's so necessary. I'm already in the habit of carrying around a bucket of water for lava, so I've never feared or cared about endermen, taking care of them is easier than zombies.
I posted in the main chat thread a week ago about this, the look of the Endermen now is honestly much less intimidating than it was when initially announced, and as that YouTube video from that SSLithuania fellow interprets, that is how i would prefer the Endermen to be like.
Is there a mod out there to change the Endermen skin back to what they were originally, and have them whisper when in earshot, but when you look at them (with the cross-hair as intended), the sound stops?
The look of them back then (in my opinion) is so much better than the purple foo-foo berry shit I see now, i want to be more uneasy around them! I want some goddamn reasons to NOT fight off hordes of monsters at night!
Make them still when not chasing the player. And increase their detection rate for being looked at. It feels like I have to rub shoulders with one to Provoke it at the moment. I'd sort of like looking out over the horizon before hearing a crack as the Enderman teleports behind me.
I would make them pretty much exactly like the weeping angels from doctor who. They are passive to start like normal but when you look at them directly for the first time they freeze. They cannot be killed while you are looking at them, and by looking at them I mean you can see them on your screen at all. They also dont move as long as you can see them. When you cant see them they quickly teleport towards you (making sounds so you know if you accidentally look at one) If they reach you they insta-kill you. The only way to kill one is to bait it in to water/lava/cactus etc. Basically DONT LOOK AT THEM. And if you do DONT BLINK.
I don't think they should instakill you, they should teleport you to a random place in the world kinda like how the weeping angels teleport you to another time period and be killed by any type of explosive. Even then they would be overpowered but I think the teleporting thing would be kinda cool.
I would be pretty cool if the same kind of wavy screen effect (the insanity) came over you if you can see them on screen, like in amnesia. Currently it's a bit easy to avoid them since they only react to the crosshair. This way you have to look completely away from them if you don't want the effect.
I have an idea:You know how, when you look at them, they begin shaking and open their mouths after a bit?Make it so that when you look at them they start growling, growing in pitch until grrRRAAAAAAAAAH(they only scream once when they attack and then just stay quiet or whisper) and they open their jaws and attack you. Also, the tunnel vision effect should grow stronger as you look at them.
Has anyone else thought of the prospect that when you look at them, you're actually trapping them?Seeing as how they shake and twitch,it looks like they're trying to get out of your eye's grip on them.Perhaps the opening of their jaws signifies them breaking free?
Also,I like the purple eyes and effects, but how about making another variety of Enderman with the 1.8 prerelease effects?(black smoke, green eyes)They'd have the same stats, but be a bit rarer and have a darker skin texture.
One more thing:Make them spawn more rarely and alone.A demonic being like that should not appear in packs at all.
While looking at one, this should play;

Although really faintly.
The ability for them to come into your house at night unless you put up protection like a moat of running water or pumpkin scarecrows.
I have a few ideas, not sure if they've been mentioned. I skimmed the first page...
- They build things with the blocks. The day before Notch explained the Endermen, my friend Joe and I came up with the idea of them building burrows and weird, people shaped statues. Imagine going to bed one night, waking up, leaving the house and finding a crude statue made of dirt and sand which resembled a person outside your door. They should move blocks for a reason.
- The burrows idea kind of leads on to this. It would be supercool if instead of just standing around when the sun rises, the Endermen went and hid in their caves and burrows. This is cool because it keeps them persistant so you know where the 'tribes' are, and also it gives you an opportunity to raid their burrows if someone figures out how to make the burrows well-designed. When I say burrows I'm picturing kind of like dirt mounds which usually lead into hills.
- I like the idea of them freezing when you look directly at them, but in one-on-one fights this is too easy. So to counter that, each tribe should be a faction (like pigmen) so if you look at one, they all start running at you. You'll have to kind of spread your time between them or something. I dont know!
Just some thoughts :v:
Endermen should build more than just people statues.
Like hypercubes.

That would just make me feel bad about my own buildings ):
Interesting gameplay mechanic
They should be hostile at all times EXCEPT when you're looking at them.
Also it'd be neat if you could only kill them with gold weapons since they're about as useless as useless gets.
