Aw damn, an ordered town. I love the ramshackle farting industrial mess than FP usually puts up and the confusing as fuck earth formations that usually get left behind.
Don't worry. Experience teaches that about six times the people that are actually going to fit on the deed will show up, and they will build a massive shantytown on the outskirts of the deed. Facepunch had the first ghetto on the wild server. Filled with newbies who had no idea what they were doing. Since it was the PVP server, it would occasionally get raided by people who either hated Facepunch, or people who were just looking for some fun. The giant mass of twisting walls and fences would confuse the heck out of them, and if they did gain something, it was some newbie's pile of hoarded wood scraps and iron filings. Since everything was basically a low quality pile of crap, it got rebuilt so quickly too. Shantytown was an amazing place. Shame the Wild/PVP server is now Pay to Play only. At least we've got Freedom.
Virus, remember last invasion, good times. I joined a town and got some sweet shit, i was a preist for some time, then i left. I remember it fondly, although i think they might have assumed the worst and kick me outta their land, i was AFKING in their harbors entrance
Don't worry. Experience teaches that about six times the people that are actually going to fit on the deed will show up, and they will build a massive shantytown on the outskirts of the deed.
that's true, the 15x15 deed i planned could fit around 30 people
Why the heck do people keep moving this topic all over the place. Next time ask permission to make it in the general discussion forum. Putting it in the MMO forum basically means its dead. Noone comes here but deluded WoW players who don't care about other MMO's anyway.
Shame all the plans are for the Freedom server, if you were setting up in Wild I would join you. I guess without the free option there wouldn't be enough interest.
If no body starts rating the thread then I will say the invasion is on the 4th of June. On the 31st I will tally up the ratings and whichever has the highest, we will invade on that day. If there are no ratings by then, well, we're invading on the 4th, period. [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] The invasion's specific time (relentless of the date) is as follows: GMT (UK): 3pm GMT-6 (USA, West Coast): 9am GMT-7 (USA, Central): 8am GMT-6 (USA, East Coast): 7am GMT+10 (Australia, East Coast): 12am Any timezones I did not mention you are in use this site: http://wwp.greenwichmeantime.com
We're gonna need to get the thread to a more public place, no one visits the MMO forums. Plus we need more foot soldiers from GD that would only join because it's a FP invasion :v:
Fine...I'll PM a mod... :colbert:
Some pointers from someone who led an invasion before (that's me lol), in no particular order: 1. Make a good thread to get people to join the invasion. This is crucial. If you do not have a good recruitment thread, your invasion will fail. Look at some of the previous invasion threads to get a good idea of what you should make. Copy/paste from those threads if neccesary. Noone going to notice anyway. - Make the thread in GD. Ask permission from a mod first, or else it'll get moved. - Post the thread once the invasion is a day or so underway, so the first few people have had a chance to get settled and make some plans before the unwashed mass comes rolling in to fuck everything up. Putting up a village deed is impossible when the area is already littered with halfbuilt shacks, this really has to be done before the invasion. - Don't make it too serious/organized. Facepunch towns are fun because they are giant drama clusterfucks. Not because they're well oiled plank production machines with superneat houses and shit. 2. Make the invasion start time later in the evening, so US folks don't have to wake up 7am in the morning to join. Ideally, you can tell people to gather/move their characters to the starting spawn point an hour or so before the invasion start, so you won't have to wait on people that have to do the (30ish minutes) tutorial. You'll probably have to wait on people anyway, but jeah, whatever. Shit happens. 3. Make sure you aren't leading people to a garbage dump. The location you picked for the invasion should have some rudimentary structures up and running. A public mine is mandatory, or else people will start making their own mines all over the place. 4. The town should be easy to reach for newbies. Don't make it in the middle of nowhere, ala the latest town, or else people will constantly be whining that they can't find it. Preferably, it should be reachable by road, and there should be a crude map with a marked route that people can follow. Alternatively, you can make an invite alt (you'll need a deed), move it to the start spawn point and invite people to the town there, then they can suicide and respawn at the town (we did this at Mingapore). Invite alts require a lot of attention though. Especially the first few days, expect people to ask for an invite every five minutes or so. You can give several trusted people access to the alt to reduce some of the invite workload, but in the end it's still tedious. 5. Come up with a good, original name for the town that is not Minges Tirith or Pirate Outpost. Facepunch's town name history (lacks loads of smalltown names I no longer remember): 1. <Nameless> 2. Lemon Beach 3. Riverdon 4. Everlight 5. Twinhills 6. Minges Tirith (the promised lands) 7. FPenice 8. Pirate Outpost #1 9. Pirate Outpost #2 10. Pirates of Barlstow 11. Pirate Outpost #3 12. Fort Oak 13. Minges Tirith #2 14. Minges Tirith #3 15. Mingapore 16. Minges Tirith #4 Notice a pattern? 6. Keep people busy. The thing that eventually kills every Facepunch town is boredom. Either organize hunts or some other group activity (guard tower, ship building, collosus) to keep people busy and entertained after they've created their house. 7. Don't be affraid to delegate tasks. I'm not a guy that likes to tell people what to do, but I quickly realized that doing and deciding everything yourself turns an amusing game into a very stressful experience. You will need a council of experienced players that also carry decisive power. You may have less control over your town, but it is otherwise impossible to manage 50 mingebags all nagging at your back asking for food, building lots, walkthroughs, materials, invites, etc etc. More 'advice' to be added whenever I think of it.
I'll let you make it. This was not exactly a recruitment thread, just a notifier and planner. You can do a recruitment thread and stuff.
If someone who knows where the actual area is(im just guessing its the plains im overlooking) I would happily start work on a mine and rudementary food production.
so if I followed the route correctly.. and I know I did, this should be the correct area: now, why is there absolutely no one in local? all I see is a corpse, fountain and dirt road.

The location is over in the sandy area, theres kind of an oasis of dirt in the middle of it. But as far as I know, it's not actually started yet.

well notmeh i was just at that area a couple of mins ago, if youre still there ill bring you to le place
nah I'm busy right now I'll come back later [editline]24th May 2011[/editline] also there's an entire graveyard of wolves near the town along with a shit ton of meat
i used to play this, plus i have an uncle who plays this religiously (not sure what server he is on though, but if he is on the one we are on he could lend some stuff like enchanted tools). if needed, i could be on that council thing that was being thrown around earlier.

Operation Sandstorm #2? isn't that against the rules or some shit either way this won't exactly raise FP's reputation in Wurm
umm guys apparently we are building our town in someone's ~~private property~~:
Nobody cares they cant do shit its not deeded athenia took half of what used to be mingapore because it wasnt deeded and we couldnt do anything about it
Operation Sandstorm #2? isn't that against the rules or some shit either way this won't exactly raise FP's reputation in Wurm
Nobody cares. FP's rep is already rock bottom; can't really get lower than that.
Operation Sandstorm #2? isn't that against the rules or some shit either way this won't exactly raise FP's reputation in Wurm
As if a Wurm reputation is something to care about. Besides, if we do operation sandstorm v2, we'd be doing tbe guy "owning" the desert a favor.
My little bro just told me about this thread, sounds like fun. Sign me up I used to play on GV (name is Cipher)
As if a Wurm reputation is something to care about. Is it bannable to cut every single tree in sight, I always loved doing that. I remember Pirate Outpost or one of the towns I played in was in the middle of a forest, but after a short while it was a huge green tundra

Ugh this thread is going to die in the subforum
One more added to the great Facepunch Navy.
