What does cauldron actually do?
It holds water. You can then use that to fill your bottles.
I hope you'll be able to coat weapons in negative-effect potions eventually. That'd be awesome.
Ummm, this is the system that's going to give us thousands of potions? Or was that in the past when there was the cauldron system? This just seems so restrictive. Like just a complicated crafting menu.
This system is not the cauldron system, the cauldron system had much more possible potions, this one only seems to have around 20 potions
As far as I know, fermented spider eyes only turn stuff into bad stuff. Like swiftness to slowdown and strength to weaken

Nope, that was the old system from Pre-release 2. Seriously, look at all this.
I'm sure they'll add that system back, right now it's just too boring.
I like the brewing stand, but we can't craft more than 30 types of potion I believe.
Or has someone found out how to make a digging boost potion yet.

I think jeb just hasn't finished adding all the proper interactions that make all the effects yet. Jeb is still unhappy with the potions system, and has said that the stand might not be final.
maybe the stand could be the last in the procces, or the first. Like you'll need several machines/things to get certain ingredients
It be nice to see an oblivion style alchemy as a pose to presets

Oblivion alchemy was awesome IMO.
Oblivion alchemy was awesome IMO.
Well then they might get another lawsuit?

Just remembered that it would be from the same company :v:
I'd like alchemy to be lower tech too.
It requires nether wart and blaze rods minimum.
Both of those things require:
Getting into the nether (high tech)
Getting into a nether fortress (rare)
Killing Blazes and finding Netherwart (highly difficult)
Alchemy is neat, but once you're able to raid a nether fortress for shitloads of blaze rods and reagents, what do you need a potion of 2+1/2 hearts instantly for?

Can't agree more. We either need Alchemy to be easier to get to or have more reason need those things that late in the game's cycle. If you've got your diamond armor and diamond tools and you're dangerous enough to get the shit to make the alchemy stand, there should be a place where you'll need to have your diamond armor at peak condition and you need to chug down potions every few minutes to get through it.
Maybe the Ender can be that place?
certain grades of brewing stands, with higher ones accepting more types of ingredients maybe?

Yes!
Instead of feeding potions one ingredient at a time, we could add 3 or 5, so the more complex potions could be brewed faster.
I also would like to put stuff in such as rotting flesh, bone meal, and possibly slime balls.

I don't know about you guys, but I want to put gunpowder in a potion, and have it explode when thrown, but not to damage any blocks.
That'd be interesting and awesome; being able to craft Potions, Poisons and "Bombs" similar to The Witcher's Alchemy.
Also I agree that Minecraft's Alchemy should be available at a lower tech tier, since Blaze Rods and Nether Warts are in a place that requires a high "tech level" on the player's part, namely Diamond Pickaxe level.
Blaze rods seem integral to the alchemy stand and so would be hard to cut out or alter, but perhaps Nether Warts could be modified to be found growing around Nether portals?
Also, here's my science room:

I'm gonna build a sweet laboratory in my basement, for my mad science

This is good for MP, as in a town a rich person might put up a public potion place, where people who done have all the expensive stuff to make the potions
So how do you make that "Nausea" potion?

Cauldrons could be the lower level potion brewing system and brewing stands become faster and make more efficient potions! :buddy:
Cauldrons could be the lower level potion brewing system and brewing stands become faster and make more efficient potions! :buddy:
Cauldrons should let you fill them with water and then throw ingredients into them. For cauldrons, you should need a certain number of overworld ingredients to create an effect, but each ingredient should also have a negative effect, so if you make a health potion using overworld ingredients in a cauldron, it will heal you but may also cause slow and weakness for a bit. Then the stand should only produce the primary effect without the secondary negative effects.
IMO.
Yep, that should work. It'd tide potential Alchemists over until they can build a Nether Portal.
I want the 2300+ potions they talked about.
[editline]8th October 2011[/editline]
MAYBE potion brewing is an end-game thing for now most of the time. BUT this can allow you to get some trading going on in servers like Profan's server.

That was under the old system.
