Overgrowth FAQ:

I love this game, everything just feels so smooth, the mechanics are a fresh and welcome change and not to mention the engine is quite flexible.
Also you can change the settings/resolution in the config.txt in 'My Documents/Wolfire/Overgrowth/Data' - not sure if you knew that or if those are the only settings that are playable for you.
Either way, at least yours doesn't look like this - it's funny because that guy has videos of GTA IV running on high but obviously didn't realise you could alter the settings in the config file.
Heh, yeah.
I was at school which has limited power already, and I couldn't get the screenshot button (F7) to work,
So I just cut out that section of the screen with the cutout tool.
But I can see how people can get confused about the resolution stuff.
Once I fix Maya on this computer, I'll start trying to make some proper models.
For some reason, I really want to make a working car in this game.
I've been interested in this game since I say the first development video.
I watch the new update videos every time they're posted.
Do any of you guys have maps you've made? I've been looking for some maps to play around in.

Check the SPF, people always post their maps in there
Yeah, check the modding subforum in the SPF and get ariehl's custom map compilation - comes with over 40 community made maps/levels/structures and adds them to the main menu so you don't have to load them with the .xml name.
Only things I've built so far are city-like parkour courses using the crete blocks, like the one in the 'Overgrowth parkour test 1' video in the OP.
Also comes with it's own auto-updater so any new maps he adds to that compliation can be added by running the .jar that comes with the download.
Hm, shouldn't the weekly patch come out soon?
Hm, shouldn't the weekly patch come out soon?
Some time tonight, most likely.
a153 was released some time after midnight for me - I'm just outside of Toronto, so I'm thinking in EST - not sure that that transltaes to for you.
That means a154 would be released ~12 hours form now if he's sticking to the same schedule as last week.
a154 was just released.

Added an investigation state and sound occlusion.

He could make enormous profits off of his technology. This guy is like all of id in one man.
I bought this way back when I saw the custom rigging tech he made if only for the modding potential (I found lugaru hardcore to the point of frustration), every upgrade to this engine just makes it more and more sexy while maintaining the ease of use.
This is the model of "pre pay" indie development where the bar should be set.
Clear development
Steady progress
Dedication to a quality product
It's so nice for a change to be regularly pleased with an indie title!
I am considering buying this. The price is too much for literally what we have right now but I'm wondering if there's going to be a price increase later or if it's just a matter of pre-ordering and getting the early builds as a form of thanks.
I will most likely get the full game but if the price stays the same I'll jump on board the pre-order bandwagon when I feel like I get my moneys worth of the game simply because I've been let down by the "pay early" model before.
It shouldn't increase in price afaik.

If every indie title was like this, we'd have some seriously quality games.
I bought this back when Natural Selection 2 and Overgrowth were sold in a pack for something like 15 euros.

They haven't decided yet as far as I know, so it's possible that the price might increase by the time the full version is released.. or it might stay $30. Unfortunately it doesn't seem like they've made up their minds yet.
Arg, I'm thinking about it but... there's one main factor that decides if I order now; will the price increase from 30$ when the final version is released?

It might - too early to tell.
I just preordered because I had $30 to spare and felt like supporting the developers. I feel like I've gotten my $30-worth already, but I can see how some people wouldn't be able to entertain themselves with just the editor and the basics that are there for long.
Trying to use Overgrowth on my laptop:

I think I need a new laptop.

I wish Overgrowth could take other image files then TGA, MTL's would make the textures more interesting.
[editline]FakeEditsWheeee[/editline]
Oh wait, I forgot that I can use a seperate .tga file as normal map.
I love this game. I think I preordered it around the release 115 and I really love to see it evolve. It's amazing to see this guy working pretty much all alone on the entire game and coming up with so much features released at such a fast rate, and yet so depressing to see entire companies have so much difficulties making a single game with half the qualities of a little indie title, yet they are a hundred times more numerous.

It really harks back to how games used to be made where a single person with limited reasources would create something far and above anything that had been seen before. (Elite for example)
I keep going on about it, but it's just so refreshing for somebody to be open and honest in their development.
I hate to do this, but do you think my laptop will be able to handle this at all? It looks really fun and would love to pre-order but it's a lot of money to gamble on an alpha that may or may not work
Processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i5-2410M CPU @ 2.30GHz
Memory (RAM) 4.00 GB
Graphics Intel(R) HD Graphics Family
Gaming graphics 1760 MB Total available graphics memory
I'm a bit sceptical about the integrated graphics and such, but I don't know a great deal about this kind of thing so would like some opinions please
Man, if Wolfire ever extends into a bigger team they have massive potential to become a revolutionary company.
Prepurchased it 5 minutes ago!

Probably not.

You could give Lugaru a try though.
I preordered it yesterday, and it's extremely fun. The graphics look amazing on my computer, especially for an Indie game. The animations so far are flawless and are possibly one of the best I've seen. Combat's still a little iffy, but overall, it's a great product so far.

Press N and X at the same time.
Also, roll, jump and very quickly press one of the ragdoll keys. Welcome to the moon.

Don't worry about your initial performance. The game is an unoptimized alpha. Even I with my 5870 and i7 920 lag sometimes.
