It looked AMAZING. Then it was released. For some reason it went from awesome to a game centered on showing children how evolution works while making their cute creatures that dance around and sing at each other. Also I tried reinstalling this recently with the CC pack and GA... for some reason nothing registers right. I'll tell my creature to eat and suddenly my health is full and the body is gone. The attacks are delayed, that sort of stuff.
I regret ever buying this game. there is nothing to do.
I've followed the game since it was first announced in 2005 and all I got out of it was this retarded username. At least I didn't spend actual money on it. No wait I did, I bought the Creature Editor standalone they released before the game. Well that was kinda sorta worth the money.
I had fun making a militant race of Land Dick Sharks, but i wanted the original spore
I had alot of fun in Galactic Adventures. It's a good game.
I thought Spore was fun, and was improved with the Galactic Adventures expansion. Still, it could've been a million times better if it was how it was originally shown off at that GDC 2005(?).
I thought SPORE was okay, although it definitely would have been MUCH better had they stuck with the original design plan for the game. Sadly, though, I had SPORE tied to my old VAC-banned steam account which is now just plain out locked. I wish I could pirate it, but all the Galactic Adventures cracks have a gamebreaking glitch.
You guys were talking about this: Right?
I remember like it was yesterday. Me and my friends at school when suddenly i found this video. Along the 35 minutes my friends and other people would notice i was watching something game related and joined me. When the movie finished we were all like 'oh shit, this has to be the best game ever!'. Dreams shattered when it got released.
At least Robin Williams got to play the game in it's glory. :(
Don't forget the constant pirates attacking your planets and there's no way to defend them except to go there yourself from god knows where and play yet another shitty repetitive minigame where you shoot down an always identical fleet of ships.
I ship designed a borg cube but never used it. Picked up the game again like a year later and all of the pirate fleets were made of borg cubes :tinfoil:
Spore was awesome! I mean yeah, when you first read the description you think of something really massive, but it wasn't, it was just cool. Personally, I played this game all night the day it was out, and enjoyed every moment of it. Gotta admit though that at the galaxy part it becomes boring at some point
Decent game, but the hype killed it. May reinstall it for some giggles. Oh wait... DRM
Worst case of Hype Backlash ever. It was a good game, but eventually the fact that it wasn't anything like the original GDC video just killed all my desire to play it.
i used to love making dicks on the creatures js
I was promised the world with Spore, it seemed to be everything I had dreamed of. I remember sliding off that plastic wrapping when it came in the mail. Watching the gentle midday sunlight dance off the colourful design on the front of the disc. I remember the slick, smooth feeling of the manual, smelling its plasticy freshness. Hearing the soft hum of the disc tray spinning the disc with the elegance of a figure skater.... ....only to be fed the absolute SHIT which was Spore, which was nothing like the tech demo... only shit, and nothing more.
What the fuck? It's not even remotely similar to god games; how the fuck do you classify it as such?
The best god-game around
i dont think this is really a god game, more an evolution simulator also black and white is the best god game anyways i havent played this game in ages, the space stage just seemed to drag on when every time you tried to do something peacefully andother planet decided to fuck things up for you
Best god game around? Heres an idea for V2's title: Spore - The dissapointing side of hype Saying that, i may play this again one day
Spore was like a shit version of fl0w, a shit offline version of World of Warcraft, a shit version of Warcraft, a shit version of Civilizations and a shit version of GalCiv all rolled into one.
Black & White, go play it. Spore kept me entertained till the space stage then I was bored shitless.
I thoroughly enjoyed playing Spore and I occasionally reinstall it and make a space civilization. It's flawed, but I think it is a solid game.
Would be lying if I said I didn't miss Spore, just can't find the mods that made it slightly better anymore. Especially the one that made the planets like 10x bigger, then the creature stage became hard because you had to actually hunt for prey. Then I buffed all the hand and mouth parts to deliver a one-hit kill to everything but the largest creatures, so you had to watch your back when attacking something or the rest of them would turn on you. So many broken dreams. It's such a shame the game ended so drastically different than how it was conceived. The cartoon art style, the limited gameplay...
if the last patch hadn't borked the modding community it might be as full as the Sims one now, and the game might be worth playing. But as it would hurt EA's stuff pack sales they took it away.
If you installed the mods in GA, they would work.
If you installed the mods in GA, they would work.
Never knew that, just knew the one of the patches broke the mods.
It annoys me that all people can say about Spore whenever it comes up is how much of a disappointment it was. I loved the game and still play it to this day. There are plenty of good things to say about it, and its a shame there hasn't been any more expansions.

While I agree the game could have been much better, what we got is a perfectly acceptable game. I've seen way less content in other games for the same price.
so what exactly was different from the gdc video anyway
