so what exactly was different from the gdc video anyway
The blood.
I remember when PC gamer told that the game is multiplayer, and EVERY planet has a player on it
I was so disappointed + that stupid login system didn't work
Forgot one more video with the 2005 version.

one of my monsters from the creature creator was made an epic monster

At least Robin Williams got to play the game in it's glory.

IIRC, even Will Wright himself tried to defuse the hype of the game because it was completely different than what was shown at E3 and GDC(?).
While Spore is not a bad god-game, it's not the best.
I believe this would like a word with you:

The space stage really let the game down. PIRATES, PIRATES EVERYWHERE AND YOU'RE THE ONLY SHIP IN THE FLEET.
I loved the first two areas but once it went rts mode it killed the game for me. Don't get me wrong I love RTS games (Age of empires 1/2 Starcraft/Brood war) But I would've prefered if the game stayed in the style of what it was in the begining. Not the in the water swimming around part I mean the part after that.
I feel like the only one that likes this game :v:
It was fun once I 'beat' it once, but I felt no reason to start over, i'd just place the space mode and blow everything up. What was also confusing was that Earth when you found it was a Life Capable.
I liked the Galactic Adventures add on. It allowed me to let-loose my Dinosaur/Alien creations and let them roam around in the Perfect Park.
I spared no expense.

I play this in my science class... It taught me that animals can have eyes and hands as genitals and 24 armed animals can create spaceships after only a couple of hours of evolution... :eng101:
Spore thread wasn't really needed. Maybe A General God Games Thread
While the game could have been better I still enjoyed it enough to get enough play time than most singleplayer games.

Same here, my interest fell into negative once it turned RTS.
Same here, my interest fell into negative once it turned RTS.
It was fun commanding a small group of your own creatures or creatures you became friends with and such. I never did get to take on an Epic though...
I saw this in the bargain bin at Walmart. I considered picking it up.
Cell stage was the only one properly done. That was because it was so simple though.

Could have done without the cartoon eyes and an environment that looked more like an algae filled swamp though.
The whole game would really have benefited from having a more "Red in tooth and claw" like something out of a National Geographic special rather than Teletubbies and Barney The Dinosaur.
The creator had some serious flaws in it, and the graphics were pretty poor too.
I remember when i got this game early and streamed it online.
My favourite stage would of been creature but even still it played bad.

If the Creature stage had played like this it would have been perfect.
I came in this thread just to disagree with the title, the best god game is and will always be Black & White.
damnit the amount of dicks I would suck just to get my hands on that gdc demo, I don't care if it was considered massively incomplete and at the time a very buggy mess that was slapped together, it still looks more fun than the actual game turned out to be.
I came in this thread just to disagree with the title, the best god game is and will always be Black & White.
I thought that was a pokemon game.
Black & White is definitely better than this by far, although I still really did like parts of this game. The cell and creature stage was brilliant for me, fucking loved them. Then I started getting bored after that. Then it was the space age, got all excited but it became very tedious very fast.
Cell stage: Arcade game
Creature stage: Boring simple MMO like game with no other players.
Tribal stage: Boring simple RTS game.
Civ stage: Boring slightly less simple RTS game
Space stage: "your colony is under attack by pirates!"
It tries to do so much, but fails at almost all of them. I remember how disappointed I was when I found out if you made a creature with no arms it still tried to do the punch animation; which led to I hit you with my shoulder fights.
The space stage was boring as hell and all the other creatures kept whining.
The only problem was that, like all other games that involve morality of any kind (In spore's case, religious herbivore vs warmonger carnivore), it was so much easier to just say "fuck it" and rape the shit out of everything you see than to play nice.
In fact, only tribal stage didn't make it harder for you to be a good character, but fuck tribal stage.
I loved the Tribal stage, hated the creature one.
I know, I'm weird.
