No need to knock Will Wright, as he was the one who wanted it to be the evolution simulator we all did. Friend sold it to me when it came out for 10 dollars. I now know why.
"Blah blah blah, bitch bitch bitch, whine moan moan complain" Hey, let's talk about spore, okay?
Anyone else find space stage incredibly boring? I'm fine with the others, but Space is too boring. I usually play from Cell to end of Civilization, then make a new file.
i can barely tolerate the creature stage but the rest are ok i guess
I bought the galactic edition. :3 I do not regret it.
Take an amazing concept Make it a long, challenging, interesting game Dumb it down for 9 years old kids to have fun with the editor ??? Non-profit ! I've been so fucking disappointed by this game. Where's the seamless aquatic stage between cell and creature stage ? Where's the awesome editor ? Why is the plant editor broken as shit ? WHY ? The game as it is right now is meh, fun for about half a dozen hours until you realize the random aspect of the game is in fact very limited and that you will end up playing always the same way. Plus, I don't really see the point of putting all the stages before the space one if it was to dumb them down and make them like two hours short each for the slowpokes (there's an achievement for ending each stages separately until space in less than like 30 minutes), which is can also be qualified as plain useless. As for the space stage, it's fun but just pissed over by the complete lack of balance and coherency (fuck you colonies kill these animals yourself, use these turrets to kill the god damn pirates FFS) - it's nice having a huge galaxy to explore, but I'd like to go away from my empire more than thirty minutes before having them harassed by a bunch of space jackasses that could be put down with a single turret burst. Good thing they're mods for that, given you can make them work. It's really, really sad how god games seem to be pretty much fucked and destined to be deception-filled average games. From Dust suffers from the same problem (where's the damn sandbox mode ???), and I bet any god game that would follow this one will have the same problem. I just don't understand how they can always fuck so much things up while making them so good and obviously working in trailers and demonstrations (From Dust HAD a sandbox mode during alpha and beta, why did it disappear ?). Also I just fucking hated that creature sharing piece of shit. I'm glad I can download other creatures to populate my planets, thanks, but just let me choose them ! I always ended up with thousands of unwanted pink unicorns and dick-shaped creatures because it just wouldn't let me download what I wanted and took all the shit it could find at the instant I logged in. It's pretty much like Invisible War. It could have been a great game, everyone had great expectations (seriously the guy behind spore created sim city and the sims, how did he fuck that up) but it ended up being average, pretty good and sometimes impressive, but in overall just bad compared to what we were all expecting. [editline]23rd September 2011[/editline] Didn't try Spore though, but when you have to put "dark" in your title to make it edgy, you know there's a problem.
I bought the galactic edition. :3 I do not regret it.
So did I. I had a lot of fun with it for a while then never touched it again. I remember running a Facepunch um... Group? I've forgotten the name, a group of people on the exchange who by being in the group, automatically download all of the creations from everybody else in the group. I tried playing it again about a year ago maybe, was thoroughly annoyed by the fact that I'd downloaded a metric fuckton of cool stuff and the game deems things 'outdated' after a while and fucking deletes them and downloads more at random. So all that stuff was gone. Not sure if the group survived? If it did I think it required the creator (That's me) to add people manually so... Go ahead and make a new one :v:
holy shit guys this has been debunked again and again by will right himself stop posting like it's a fact
Wasn't Will Wright the one who said that for a while they DID try the "realistic scientific" route... only to find that the game was NOT fun at all with it, forcing them to switch to the Cartoony version?
Why is the plant editor broken as shit ? WHY ?
I'm pretty sure it was just a developer feature that was left in somewhat by mistake.
Well WHY DIDN'T MAKE THEM A FULL FUNCTIONAL EDITOR Also I can understand it would've been boring if it was a full scientific realistic game (hence simearth and simlife), but there's a difference between "easy as shit cartoonish game" and "challenging cartoonish game"
Wasn't Will Wright the one who said that for a while they DID try the "realistic scientific" route... only to find that the game was NOT fun at all with it, forcing them to switch to the Cartoony version?
I remember an interview where he said that his side of the team would have these realistic pieces of concept art, and Hecker's team would take the art and draw huge cartoony eyes on it, and would try and force that whole simplistic/cartoony theme.
I remember an interview where he said that his side of the team would have these realistic pieces of concept art, and Hecker's team would take the art and draw huge cartoony eyes on it, and would try and force that whole simplistic/cartoony theme.
That sounds familiar to me, but it's possible that both are true to an extent.
Fun fact: The original name for spore was Sim Everything With an ad slogan of "everything in a box"
Complexity meter plz go.

Will Wright is a highly respected game developer and it would be incredibly unprofessional of him to call out team members like that. Either that or you're misrepresenting what was actually said horribly. here's the post from will wright http://forum.spore.com/jforum/posts/list/210/8555.page#137577
When is the real spore coming out? Mommy, I want the real spore. Why would they lie, mommy, why? :(
I remember getting my account suspended for uploading a monster that spelled out "Fuck EA" with its limbs :v:
guys, get platinum spore and bigger planets mod if you want to do a play through again. It's all a big buggy, but so much more challenging and fun than vanilla spore. In tribe stage you can place the buildings pretty much wherever you want, the guy from platinum spore increased the amount of placable slots from like 8 or whatever to about 80, so you can put them down and rotate them however you want, whatever design you want you village to be in. Bigger planets is amazing, creature nests spawns are more thought out, tribal stage and civilization stage become a lot more strategical... even if it's still not the spore we wanted, it's much closer Only thing I don't like about space stage really is the fact that you have to do those bullshit missions to begin with. It seems so out of place sometimes, and is an annoying way to spend 20 minutes when I just wanna roam around, find artifacts, start wars with random civilizations... edit: links Only downside with bigger planets is it breaks shadows and water/land blending, doesn't matter too much Bigger Planets V2 (bunch of nice features, also lets you select the walls for your cities/colonies etc): http://www.gamingsteve.com/blab/index.php?topic=16049.0 Platinum Spore: http://www.sporemodding.com/index.php?topic=11.0
I would play it, but every time I get to the space age everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) gets renamed to BAD_DATA and all of the fixes I found on the internet didn't work.
aww just found out the bigger planets mod breaks the tribal stage placement thing in platinum spore oh well
I'm going to re-download it, put the platinum spore mod on and hope to shit I don't get the bad data bug again. Oh, it turns out I don't have Galactic Adventures. Should I get it?

Right now i have no interest at all in going to the core, im just using the spacecreate cheat and making lovely T3 planets with lots of creatures on, sadly i rushed through creature stage so i barely have any parts

"The first Spore megathread" HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
I remember fapping to female human spore creatures on YouTube, that's why I bought the game. I tried making my first busty female, but I failed and decided to make a living penis
No need to knock Will Wright, as he was the one who wanted it to be the evolution simulator we all did. Hecker is the one who pushed and forced the game to be the cartoony, unrealistic version it is.
There's nothing particularly scientific about Spore and Will Wright himself has stated he was just as responsible for what happened to Spore as the rest of the design team. Compare Spore to Sim Earth and count the number of educational aspects the two games present. All Spore has going for it is the intro video implying panspermia, there's no evolution in the game, not even natural selection for the creatures since everything is run by an arbitrary stat system. You can't design a limb to be more efficient than other limbs, just slap on a foot with a faster speed rating and bam you have a Tortoise that runs like a Cheetah. If you wanted to make a game about evolution, you'd make the game keep track of what you do while playing as the creature then skip ahead a few hundred generations and have the computer generate/modify the creature for you.
I want creatures with big heads lose balance I want creatures with long legs be faster I want creatures that move like crabs I just wanted the shape of my creatures have impact on its performance why WHYYY

you need galactic adventures to use mods on the latest patch anyways and Platinum Spore won't work as well on the last patch that mods work on
