It MIGHT be worth $30 if Notch actually finished it, and I mean FINISHED it.
I can't read disregard this.
I listened for only 10 minutes, and couldn't bear the feculance any more. Sure the game isn't as finished as it could be, and sure "THE BEST GAMERS" are a troll channel that is meant to be taken with a lethal overdose of salt, but all I can say is I WILL DESTROY YOU.

they make valid points in this video.
there is a lack of actual content. i know there is tons of blocks but there isnt much else to do other than build with them. you cannot interact with NPCs...
while i disagree with the complaining about graphics, monster AI (dude its not complicated. if they dont see you, they roam around, if they do see you, they go towards and try to explode/shoot/bite you.
This is one of their much more serious reviews. there are next to no content updates, the game is called "finished" even though there is a gigaton of features notch said he would add still not placed *cough*CTF/portablecampfires/friendslist/morebiomes*cough*
and if you were freaking out at the 10:00 where he was making fun of a glitch, get over it. once again, this is supposed to be the "final version"
(list of features announced/planned to be added for your viewing pleasure http://www.minecraftwiki.net/wiki/Upcoming_features )

notch is going to continue work on this game right even though its at V1?
PLEASE SAY HE IS.

They may be a troll site, but they do a damn good job at doing it because they actually make valid arguments while pushing just the right buttons to get under the skin of players such as you.
The things he brought attention to in the video are valid complaints, the game is nowhere near being a full release game. It's unacceptable for a game to be called "finished" when it's got so many half-finished features that don't work well together.
Your "I will destroy you" comment means he did a good job at getting to you where it stings without once putting himself in the wrong :rolleye:

The AI isn't simple it's dumb. It would be simple and not idiotic if the monsters would try to actually walk to where you stand, going up a stair or a slope. But they act like they are on a empty flat map.
The review is biased in a lot of places and I know it's satire meant to troll.
I'm most surprised by how little subscribers they have and especially the views. I had thought these guys were around for quite a long time but apparently their first video only goes back to July 2010.
Mmm, well. Satire.

It brings up a ton of valid points I must say.
Especially the AI and lack of finished content.

To be fair I only saw 9 minutes. I value my mental health far more than watching some dull troll judge the game with a certain harshness, even if it appears to have some semblance of a single good point.
Like I said it isn't as finished as it should be, and there could've been more work put in, but hopefully at least the mob AI will improve somewhat when they get the new AI programmer onboard, so things can at least get better.
I'll admit it that the release was far from what a product should be when it goes gold, and they dropped the ball when most of the team was diverted to Scrolls, leaving Notch and Jeb to do the development (was it just those two or did Mojang still pitch in a little during Scrolls dev?).
However my blood rage against "THE BEST GAMERS" is nothing to do with them ripping into Minecraft; it's simply their trollingness and what they stand for, which is taking the caustic and vitriolic (acidic and bitter, like rotten coffee to the power of 4) piss most of the time. I know trolls like these need to be taken with a pinch of salt, but in their case it'll take WAY more salt than normal to avoid blood rage concerning them, roundabout an entire shaker-full, and in that case i'd probably die, which is a less-than-desirable option.
Also, concerning the "final version" and your concerns about Notch's continued involvement, all I can say is I HUNGER. For more content. Every developer knows that a game can never truly be finished; there's always something they want to implement, but there are restrictions on development like time, money and tech, all three of which can force the team to shelve things that they'd love to work on and implement. Thankfully Minecraft doesn't seem to have that problem just yet; Mojang doesn't seem to be making too many losses at the moment, but then again i'm no hospital heart monitor when it comes to business and the like. (I don't keep my finger on the pulse in the financial world; i'm not a banker)
Hopefully the game has plenty of years left before it ceases to become financially-viable to keep on working on Minecraft. Unless of course Mojang makes several record hits that keep them well-funded enough to pursue near-indefinite development on the game, but such a thing only occurs on a full moon on Friday the 13th when all the planets are aligned and the stars are right, since that's kinda what happened with Team Fortress 2 and World of Warcraft, and I dunno if Mojang's gonna soar to such heights even if Minecraft was kind of an indie smash-hit. Then again stranger things have happened, like mammoths going to the moon and giants starting up a cudgel-based aerospace company.
You didn't catch that? Okay...
You said the guy is a moron because he thinks the game is ugly? It's as valid as saying you are a moron because you don't think it isn't ugly. Or someone's a moron because he likes red flowers over blue. Oh you don't like rock music? You are a moron.
Completely retarded.
He never actually said that the guy was a moron, go back through the posts. Somebody called him a moron and he was saying that he stopped the video because he didn't find it interesting, not because he didn't agree with it.
Not reading posts and making up your own versions of what people say is a bit retarded, especially if all the posts are on the same page.

You're right I didn't read that correctly.

And they mostly do parodies no less.
A friend linked me this yesterday, he told me these guys made satirical/troll reviews, then I watched the video and hell, they really made a lot of valid complains.
Now, while many elements do feel incomplete, you guys do need to realize that Mojang is a company with less people than the company that is just simply porting Minecraft to Xbox. Hell, the dev team for Black Mesa Source has more people IIRC.
Now, try to put it in Notch's perspective, or Jens'. These guys work full-time on MULTIPLE projects daily. They are not casuals who do it on and off every so often (*cough*Blackmesasource*cough*). When they are working it is highly stressful when you don't have the human and financial resources your neighbors at DICE do, not to mention that the entire community playing your products knows a shitload of ways to contact you and will probably flood it with hatemail if you do something they don't like. It's a stressful job FFS, and they have to deal with certain deadlines, and on another note, probably have Microsoft breathing down their necks from time to time over the Xbox version.
Oh and about Notch's vacations:
Guess why Cave Johnson kept making audio-notes about the control group?

why do they have multiple projects if they cant even get one game to a proper state in a year
and what other projects are there besides that shitty ass card-trading game that no-one is going to play?

Oh look a portal reference, how cute!
And that is a shitty argument. He runs a company, that means he should act professional, and get shit done- not spend all of his time fucking around on vacation.
It's a stressful job FFS, and they have to deal with certain deadlines
Yeah, and so is every other fucking job! If you can't handle the stress, and can't meet your own deadlines, don't run a fucking company!

They are still a small indie company (no matter how profitable they are) with no deadlines that they don't set themselves and no publisher looming over their heads telling them what to do. They already have millions and a nice cozy office to work in and we can assume all of them are friends. How is this stressful?. Notch and his gang aren't creating entirely new and demanding engines with massive multiplayer, massive competition, and massive expectations like Dice.
Not to mention that Notch is a gigantic immature manchild who starts massive shitstorms and drama over tiny things. See: Bethesda and the Yogscast.
That is the biggest point, I feel.
An 'ending' to Minecraft is fighting a dragon in space, what the fuck?
Yeah, but as I said, if they started a gamma phase they could still raise the price without having to call it the final product, and it would give them the opportunity to raise the price even further later on. Plus they'd have more time to make the game actually feel finished.
The only reasons I can think of for why Mojang would call Minecraft "Done" instead of going into a Gamma phase are the following...
1. Notch does not want to work on Minecraft anymore.
2. Notch feels like he has to finish the game now for some reason.
3. Going into a Gamma phase would somehow get in the way with their plans to port it onto the Xbox 360.
4. Nobody working at Mojang knows what a Gamma phase is and figured they had nowhere left to go besides a final release.
...And I think it's the first one. It would explain a lot, and it fits a person like Notch. He's admitted to having a habit of leaving his projects unfinished, so he probably had to force himself to make it this far with Minecraft.
I wasn't very happy with the review at first, but after reading a few posts from you dear Facepunchers, I do have to agree with The Best Gamers. (Well, except the graphics, but I guess it's your taste of textures.)
Notch doesn't give a care about his game anymore, thus no updates. When he does give in out of fear of losing potential buyers, they're buggy, irritating, disappointingly miniscule updates that do very little to add to the core Minecraft feeling.
This is why I usually don't buy games based on ratings from reviews. Why does it matter if the game is unfinished or has bad AI or has loads of potentially great yet unfinished features if it's still an experience I can enjoy for a long time?
Also goddamn I hate those BEST GAMERS guys, their satire videos are never funny.

If they leave one game unfinished, what do you think the likelihood that the next games they make will be unfinished on release?
Will notch still update minecraft with new content?

It doesn't matter if parts of the game are fun. The problem is that Notch promised a lot and delivered very little. And the little that he did deliver was buggy and half assed. You would be able to enjoy Minecraft A LOT LONGER if Notch actually put more effort into what he did and he stopped taking vacations every other day.
Ever since 1.4 and those idiotic wolves came out i'd noticed something wasn't quite right. That feeling got worse and worse with each successive update until I hit 1.8 and it made me sick. I'd keep the halloween update, simply because of how fun the nether is even without glowstone. I'd drop the mine shafts and ruins on both real and nether because all they do is get in the way of my experience.
Is there any way to revert to 1.3? Maybe since those wolves are still adorable 1.4? Please tell me, I want to like this game again.

I agree with a lot of what he said, save for the arrogant way he stated it. Honestly, if I started a game as a hobby, made loads of money, I'd stop working on it entirely. Sure, Notch hasn't been working on Minecraft the same way he was a few years ago, but who can blame him? We all would, given the opportunity, do the same. Minecraft is fun, no doubt about it, and although it's nowhere near finished, it's hard to work on a game you never imagined working on for such a long time, for nearly three years. Then to have that game receive so much attention, that not only are you overwhelmed with expectations, but your ego then expands hundred times over. Notch is a man-baby, we know that, and Minecraft was a hobby gone viral. I'm not defending Notch, but I'm just saying, I personally would do much worse than him. He's not a master programmer, his art skills suck, Minecraft's success was bathed in an older idea rehashed in a better way. Minecraft is enjoyable, even for a few days, and was totally worth the money in my opinion. It doesn't deserve a 10/10, but it's better than what the review gave it. I agree though, if Notch fleshed out its aspects, it would be much more fun.
