Well okay I admit it, I have been a fanboy of minecraft but yes I have to admit with many of the things he brings up...
But one thing I just can't let slide, he is almost excluding one of the biggest part of Minecraft, building. Well he do mention it at 13:00-13:37 "You have nothing left to do but build" which he says he does not see the appeal in.
Wow, hold on a minute? Building is (from my point) almost more then half of the game! Building amazing creations (alone or with friends) is at least my main reason to play Minecraft! The hard part is coming up with what to build (sure he could have implanted some sort of meaning for building) but when you actually come up with an crazy idea me and my friends will sit hours trying to perfecting it and make it extraordinary. And that is not autism, it is just you using you imagination at its fullest (which btw is the only thing that is stopping you from doing almost anything) and not sitting hours just repeatedly shooting people in the face (FPS) or something similar.
So sure I am a but upset at Notch for most of the reasons he says, but the building part is why I love and play Minecraft!
He said building sucked to get everyone mad. Most of the review was honest and objective, but that building and autism part was classic The Best Gamers parody to get people mad.
I've always found it hilarious when fans of minecraft can't face the facts.
So... I'm not allowed to forgive these shortcomings and enjoy minecraft?
Thats not what he wrote at all. Some people will or would reply that "No, Minecraft is finished. There are no flaws".
Probable, the issue with the internet is people will make a massive debating argument over someting that could be dealt with by running off and playing skyrim or (INSERT FAVORITE GAME HERE) untill the patches come out.
I haven't touched mine-craft since 1.9PR3 and before that i went through a long spate of not playing, sometime just after the Halloween update.
It's all nice that you all complaining about the version what notch didn't include and stuff but why not sending those messages to notch?
If alot of people are doing this together then maybe he will do something about this.
Just saying.
And ofcourse i totally agree the vid review.

Most people here got Minecraft a long time ago, and the building possibilities haven't really changed with the stuff that has been added over time, pistons excluded. Creativity can only last so long, especially when there are many other areas in life to be creative.
Personally I went through the whole "creative building" phase a long time ago, and was waiting on the actual 'game' side of Minecraft to develop. I'm sure I wasn't alone. What we've been given though is wholly lacking, and that is why there's so much resentment.
The only thing that's really keeping the game alive for me are the mods that have added things like automation. Otherwise it's just a game of "Punch trees, make house, kill monsters, explore caves, mine shit, make mob tower, twiddle thumbs".
Yeah, I had a fun discussion with the Gamebanana community about this video. Their first posts made me cringe. (And so will you once you see mine further on in the thread)

I've never heard of this before, time to play endlessly.
Oh my lord that big brown thing is scary.
What pisses me off with a lot of people, is when they decide that there are only 2 possible opinions about something:
Either you think it's bad, or you are a fanboy and you think everything about it is perfect.
AND NO OTHER OPINION IS WITHIN THE BOUNDS OF REASON!
I like minecraft and I've been it since I started playing infiniminer but HOLY FUCK is that review correct as shit.
Notch is lazy unaccomplished cunt, who can't even get the game done when the deadline is set at "when it's done". Notch only is still working because he can't fire himself.
He has become literally the worst employee in gaming industry.

I'm one of those people who enjoys Minecraft to an extent but I also realize that it's nowhere near perfect, or even near done for that matter. :v:

Yeah, it is annoying. I agree with the whole review, and frankly, I hate how Notch handles things. Doesn't stop me from loving the game though.
Guys, Minecraft is fun because it's LEGO on the computer. I have fun with it but I will not deny that it's a shit video game. The combat is flat and boring, the mobs have next to no AI whatsoever, and the various game mechanics don't have nearly enough depth to stand alone. Really, the fun of it is getting together with friends and building giant castles and whatnot. I did that when I was 10 in my basement. It may sound cynical but really, the replay value and sense of community derives from Minecraft's sandbox nature. If perhaps the mechanics were fleshed out more it would stand better on its own as a video game in the traditional sense. All of the current mechanics are basically tacked on top of the LEGO base and not integrated deeply into the gameplay structure. Sure, it's a really great interpretation of LEGO that comes up with some fucking awesome randomly generated landscapes. I will not deny that it is good in setting a stage for dicking around in construction. However, everything else is very surface-level which is, to me, the most prevalent flaw.
I have to say the only randomly generated landscapes I find interesting in Minecraft are the areas where it fucks up in some way. When the terrain generation behaves how it's supposed to I find the landscape is incredibly dull.

I found the same temperate archipelago dull. 1.8+ terrain generation was probably my favourite feature ever added to the game.
Finding a natural valley that also has a massive open underground river at the bottom with a village at each of the tops of the valleys is amazing.

It's randomly generated, you can't really praise the game for accidentally stumbling into something cool
Do you guy's think there will ever be a chance Notch actualy steps up and fixes the games main issues?
Notch basically has his money. What incentive does he have now?
