Those screenshots actually look nice for a console, this is good for anyone who has a shit computer I guess.
It feels really sluggish when I play. I wish Crytek had lowered the viewdistance and amount of foliage a bit. It goes sub 30fps often, but it's only single player so it's not that bad.
Wow this looks amazing
Don't forget it only runs in 720, so it's not that hard to run at decent quality for the Xbox.
Wow this looks amazing
Why must we start a flame war when people who can't play the PC version actually discusses it and such?

It has the pretty CryEngine 3 deferred lighting, but everything else looks less sexy. And don't forget that 720p on a TV looks like asshole if you're used to playing at 1080p on a monitor.

[editline]5th October 2011[/editline] ok seems like i'm late but lmao at the dumb-ass who disagreed with the factual evidence on above post. PC has no graphical showcases left anymore, deal with it. [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] could people use tech terms to describe what is looking worse (other than the res which i admit is terrible on consoles) instead of crap terms like "sexy"
Isn't it funny how Steam is putting/has put the original Crysis on sale the day after it releases/was released on consoles?
There are a coup0le things better in the Console version Compared to Unmodded Crysis 1. The Rock models are diffidently better quality, maybe not texture wise but they seem to have more Polygons. They look smoother The shotgun texture has a more worn look to it. Not that big off a difference though. The game has different weapon sounds, which I like. I want them on the PC
Updated the OP, it's actually £15.99 on the PlayStation Store, no idea why the extra pound, but whatever.
Why you may think that it looks better on the consoles is only because how the new engine handles shaders. The texture resolutions, aa, shadows, fps and screen resolutions are bad comparing to pc.

And also, in terms of graphical showcases, have you seen Metro 2033 with DX11 enabled?
It doesn't look bad but it's a high contrast bloomfest on the 360.
Oh hey, now I can play Crysis 1 with a fairly decent framerate because I'm currently too poor to afford a new PC, and am happy with the performance I get on most PC games anyways. Hell, it's not even an expensive investment or anything, although the bloom is a bit annoying, but I like the look of everything else so I can deal with it. I wonder what Facepunch has to saoh hey childish bitching about how it doesn't look as good as the PC version and how nobody should ever want to play an "inferior" version when they can play on the almighty PC like we're on SPUF or something. Stay classy, FP, and I look forward to pages and pages of arguing about how everyone in the world should just get a good PC instead because it's now cheaper than buying a console.

As a last elitist resort, we have mods. 2: we have technical benchmarks aplenty on PC. From the well optimized games, the ones that strike a fantastic balance between looks and performance, (Just Cause 2 is gorgeous and runs pretty damn swell) To the all-out computational shitfest that is Metro 2033. 3: If you really want this to be a competition, then by all means come at us bro! Now to be fair, consoles excel at optimized exclusives like GoW 3 (both of them lol), Uncharted 2, MGS4 and so on. But as far as graphical showcases that shames a PC. Sorry No. I hope people enjoy this. I found it hilarious to pull stupid shit at the Koreans. If you master the suit, you can get a small "combat high" by stringing moves together.
I like how everyone is bitching over games. I loved Crysis on PC and I might even buy it on the 360.

While it could stand to have a little more contrast, the lighting is -far- more natural than the Xbox 360 version. As far as "PC has no graphical showcases anymore," that's pure bullshit and you know it. Metro 2033, Just Cause 2, Crysis 1 and Crysis Warhead, Starcraft 2, The Witcher 1 & 2, Battlefield 3, Trackmania2 Canyon, FakeFactory Cinematic Mod for Half-Life 2, etc. As said, console exclusives are often incredibly well optimized for the hardware but PC still has it's share of sheer graphical horsepower.
Lets bitch about graphics because that is what makes a game good and then lets miss the whole point of gaming and segregate ourselves on the basis of gaming system. - Facepunch. (not directed towards anyone in specific)

(not directed towards anyone in specific)
That's not really the argument though. It's very clear that the console version and the PC version of the game have a different way of handling the visuals. The debate is PURELY about which one looks better, not that the console or PC versions are somehow inferior to each other. Hell, the only reason I need not to touch the console version is the "revised" nanosuit. I don't like the nanosuit in Crysis 2, so, by extension, I'll be sticking with the PC version of Crysis 1.

Besides, I liked the new suit, it was very streamlined and felt natural. But that's just me.
I don't really want people to talk about graphics in this thread, if you do can you just keep it on a small amount so to not piss people off.
Actual in-game screenshot. Aliasing and abusive DoF and bloom everywhere up in this bitch. I mean I don't really care about graphics as long as they don't hurt my fucking eyes when I'm playing. This is the kind of modifications that make a game unplayable for long periods of time because it's just so bright and blurred at the same time.
Draw distance sucks ass, but that's to be expected.
Hell what bothered me the most in this thread was the first sentence of the article in the OP:
Hailed for the longest as the greatest looking game ever made, the 2007 shooter from indie studio Crytek made waves as a benchmarking success like no other PC game before it.
What the fuck kind of indie is Crytek, because I'm pretty sure they're a massive studio. Just nitpicking though, I literally give no shit about this announcement since I can run the original Crysis, and I don't own a console. Still great for people that have never been able to play it. The DRM bullshit though, seriously Crytek? You were one of the bro-er people around.
This looks better than on PC guys for certain reasons, but looks worse for others Why it looks better: 1. Lighting in CE3 (and thus this port) is much more advanced and has support for an almost infinite number of light sources, even on console, at infinite range. AKA you can see real dynamic lights in the distance while in nromal Crysis1 this isn't possible without raping your performance (dynamic lights at distances are faked using particle effects). 2. Infinite shadows at much larger distances. In standard C1, all shadows outside of 30m-50m or so would magically disappear around you and any shadows that were not lit solely by the sun were expensive to render (benefit of having your whole game take place on a tropical island). For CE3, and thus this port, this isn't the case. You'll notice an almost infinite number of shadow details stretching into the ditance with no performance hit, because thats the kind of thing Deferred rending allows. 3. Better detailed shaders that are more optimized, overall. A lot of the really nice shader effects (and thus particles) from Crysis1 are somewhat experimental in implementation and are not as developed as they are in CE3 4. They actually optimized the Time of Day lighting settings to be more colorful and interesting, compaired to the basic and bland ones they had in stock crysis (this doesn't apply with mods though). How it's worse: 1. Generally going to be more fuzzy, because deferred rendering pretty much kills quality AA implementation. If you have a PC running Crysis 1 at high settings with AA/AF cranked up, Crysis 1 on PC will look a lot crisper than Crysis 1 on consoles. It's also why they've implemented more advanced, but yet more prevalent motion and blurring into Crysis 2 (and thus Crysis 1) - it covers up the blemish. Some people don't mind, but people who are used to crisp images when playing games will see it as quite blurry. 2. Model and texture detail is going to be much lower than on PC. This isn't a total loss because honestly, Crytek did a pretty terrible job optimizing their own assets. However you'll notice that some things won't look as detailed from a hard quality perspective as they did on PC. A PC that can max out Crysis 1's textures will blow it out of the water, however they still have a lot of the effects that only high end PC's used to be able to render (such as Parralax Mapping). This also doesn't appear as bad simply because the game runs at a much lower resolution. 3. I'm not sure about this, but I'm pretty sure the density of objects is going to be less too. I.E. less clutter and other such things. 4. Runs at a lower resolution naturally, and therefore you don't get as "full bodied" of a picture as you would on PC. 5. Doesn't count as visuals, but they cut some of the game out (i.e. ascention) and I hear some levels are shorter. I hear some levels are also split into two parts now instead of being one large map, but I've not seen any gameplay of this so I can't say for sure. [editline]5th October 2011[/editline] Oh and on the online-play only issue:
Update: It seems that this only occurs if you have downloaded the game on multiple consoles. The game will run offline if you're playing on the console that you originally downloaded the game onto. So if you do live in a household with multiple consoles, make sure they are all connected to Live to avoid this, especially if you're moving profiles around.
