I hated the curiosity in me at that point. How does the camera work in this game? It looks really awesome and spooky.
It adds a grain filter and slight red/blue outlines to objects (more noticeable on distant light sources). You can also zoom. Night vision only goes so far, but zooming in improves it (thus also lowering your fov). Battery is only drained by night vision. You only take note of things by recording them, so you could use the camera as much as possible. With the camera up you don't get door/item/etc prompts, though.
[editline]6th September 2013[/editline] Having a weapon in a horror game almost instantly makes it MUCH MUCH less scary IMO
haha, if anything weapons make a horror game even MORE scary. When I played Amnesia, I knew that I had to fucking run because the game dictated as much, but in Penumbra: Overture (?) I felt some solace knowing i had a way of defending myself up until i realized that the method of defending yourself was almost worthless, basically shedding away that sense of security immediately
just finished the game, and I must say that I was both disappointed and amused by this game. disappointed because it wasn't as scary as I'd hoped for, but amused because I enjoyed the game either way and the plot was interesting. definitely worth buying and playing [sp]the last part with Billy really had me on my toes[/sp]
You know what? This game's trailer sucks. It gave me a completely wrong impression of the game. It made it look like another screamerfest like slender and all those crappy unity whatever games that youtube le facecam whores play. There are a couple jump scares, but only in the very first part of the game. The rest is similar to amnesia or penumbra: you have a location, you need to find something and you got a monster navigating the same location. What I liked: Graphics, animations and voice acting. Devs really did a good job on it, doesn't feel like an indie game. NPCs. This is the first time I've seen non-"generic people who are trapped in there just like you" NPCs. When I first noticed that those psychos just ignore me, it felt really fresh for some reason. What I didn't like: Enemy AI and how they miss the locker I'm hiding inside every time. And it looks like they can't pose a threat sometimes. Obviously not the fat guy, or two naked dudes, but I think I could (story-wise, not gameplay-wise) fight off a skinny dude with a stick.[sp]Before I got fingers cut off ofcourse[/sp] Game's not difficult. Horror aside, getting away even when hurt is pretty easy. There should be more scripted scares in the rest of the game, not only in the first part. Something to break routine like trying to open a door, or climbing a ladder. [sp]Plot. It's kinda generic, not like that's a bad thing. Unexpected twist near the end, but it's still switching from a cliche to another cliche.[/sp] So unexpectedly good game overall.
Pretty enjoyable game. Scared the shit out of me in the beginning. I had a problem with its performance on my PC, no biggie though.
Just bought this game. Despite some obvious jumpscares the theme fits nicely with the narrative. Looking forward to finishing it.
Doctor is best character. I really dig the voice acting, top notch.
Enemy AI and how they miss the locker I'm hiding inside every time.
I'm pretty sure that's intended, it would make hiding pointless if they could just find you that easily.
I'm pretty sure that's intended, it would make hiding pointless if they could just find you that easily.
It's still kind of tense how they check all the hiding places near you though.
It's still kind of tense how they check all the hiding places near you though.
That's the point.
it's still possible for them to check your hiding spot, has happened a few times for me through my playthrough
it's still possible for them to check your hiding spot, has happened a few times for me through my playthrough
I think that only happens if there are no other hiding spots to check in the room you're in. Like if there's only one locker or bed in a room.
I think that only happens if there are no other hiding spots to check in the room you're in. Like if there's only one locker or bed in a room.
Nah, I was in a room when the big guy started barging in, so I went to hide in one of the 3 lockers there, and as I hid, I let go of the keyboard and mouse thinking oh, he's just gonna wobble around, open the locker next to me and leave, I'll just wait it out. But then the fucker just swings my locker door open and throws me out of it scaring the shit out of me as I thought they never open yours, totally caught me off guard.
There's designated hiding spots that they'll check and ones they wont check. My brother and I were playing it in the same room and we were able to tell each other which hiding spots they'll check. This was a surprisingly good game. Not all that scary and the effects are brilliant.
this is a really good game. the enemies never really posed any threat tho, i literally only hid once or twice in the entire game and mostly just ran past scary people. it looks so good too
this was a really neat little game. it started off a lot scarier than it became though. the first jump scare got me, but after that i didn't really find being chased by dudes scary at all. it was more tedious to navigate around them than scary. really disappointing that it became one of those. but still, i enjoyed it. [editline]9th September 2013[/editline] its an indie game right?
yeah it's an indie title, you really don't notice, top notch graphics and voice acting
This game gave me a few nightmares ):
Am I the only one who really really didn't like the [sp]ending of the game? It felt lazy how you just get fucking shot and the game is over. It leaves people with a sense of hollowness.[/sp]
well not really because [sp]you don't die. you became the host. you're the evil spirit now.[/sp]
[sp]I thought that basically Billy, the Walrider's spirit merged into your body and you released his spirit when you were shot. That's why after you fall over, you hear the soldiers getting butchered.[/sp]
The game is easily worth $19. It's a good way to spend 5 hours and generally I pay around $9-$11 to go see the latest shitty movie and this provides nearly three times the run time of *insert generic movie here*
The night vision on the camera is amazing, really put me into the groove. Jump scares were cheap though and I really wish they were just removed and this turned into more of a found footage kind of thing. Sometimes I shake the camera a shitload to simulate found footage movies and I end up laughing my ass off.

Am I the only one who couldn't see [sp]Trager[/sp] without thinking of these fuckers? [t]http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20110227041836/oddworld/images/d/d7/Vykker-5.jpg[/t]
[sp]I really loved the gentle hints towards your insanity, like the faint face shape appearing in the static. I wish the game went more into that direction, rather than the usual "navigate corridors with Big Bad"[/sp] All in all, a good game, not a breakthrough, but still worth picking up. [sp]But the ending is really horrid, downer endings are good for movies, not games where you actually 'bond' with the protagonist[/sp]
Playing this on a friends PC seeing as I couldn't afford it. I love this game, fucking scary, the jump scares feel deserved, and are used well/sparingly. Normally, fear like this really makes me want to have frequent breaks, but something keeps driving me on. The fleshed out first person mechanics make you feel very immersed and I really want to break out of this place, so I cannot stop playing. My friend has also left the room now as he is freaking out more than me, and he has played it already. Honestly I think I prefer this game over The Dark Descent, even on par with Penumbra almost. I have to finish it first before justifying that statement though. I'm in the sewers at the moment. I also scared his dog with my girlie screams. :v: EDIT: Quick thingy There were a few points so far that I felt I should have been able to snap a note, but I like the feature. Also the game seems well optimized, and looks good, even if it does take place in a building. EDIT 2: Oh shit why do more games not do this fuuuuuuck http://puu.sh/4nV3g.gif (linked because file size of gif. No nsfw, no spoiler, no worries)
Started this, got ten minutes in with my girlfriend watching, noped right the fuck out.
It's still kind of tense how they check all the hiding places near you though.
I really liked the Penumbra approach to horror stealth by having your character flip the fuck out if he stares at a monster for too long, really gave an interesting approach to hiding. [sp]But the ending is really horrid, downer endings are good for movies, not games where you actually 'bond' with the protagonist[/sp]
[sp]Downer endings are always frowned upon because people don't like seeing sad endings even in games where your character gets in the worst shit possible. The Darkness, the first game that is, had one of the saddest, most downer endings in the history of gaming and that's what made it great[/sp] I spoiled myself Outlast's story like an idiot by reading the spoilers but frankly I still want to play it.
