since he is infiltrating an asylum that is private property which, as far as he knows, is in use, it makes sense that he doesn't have a gun from a legal standpoint. if he got caught with a gun he could be sent to prison for far longer than for trespassing, although he really didn't seem to know what exactly to expect entering into it

But then again, he's trespassing to begin with.
Generally speaking if you had SOME way to fight monsters at the beginning then lost it almost immediately it would have made the sense of urgency a whole lot better to begin with.
Not to mention the huge plothole at the beginning where [sp]you get in the asylum, and are immediately greeted by a fucking man impaled on a stick, right next to a pile of corpses. No one is going to make me believe that a sane man would see that, while in the ability to record it with a perfectly working Camcorder, and would not simply just take footage of it and run the fuck back to his car. I mean seriously, it's a guard in full armor, with a spike going through his body. It makes sense in Penumbra that your character does not turn around and just leaves when he starts seeing weird shit because at this point in the game he was already stuck in a mine with no way to climb back out, but here the journalist is just in full ability to get the fuck out of here.[/sp]

I think [sp]the vent was too high to get back up. That's why the next part is turning on the power to get out the door[/sp]
[sp]So I beat this game.
The ending has me confused.
Did our camera man become the host of the guy he was trying to kill, that was the Walrider? But when the Walrider was beating him up, it infested him, making him stagger back toward the opening, but being gunned down by that doctors henchmen. With him saying "you've become the host" didn't they kill the camera man? Or did the Walrider infect him so, where he could ignore pain of bullets, and basically kill all of them?
Will we see another Outlast?[/sp]

He climbed in through a window that he couldn't climb back out and all the exits are locked. The very first objective is "unlock the main doors", so he does try to just leave right from the start.
Outlast with Oculus :

Just finished it. Not counting the incredibly shit ending, it was well worth the money.
[sp]Would've been so much better if all the shit I recorded at least made some sort of difference...[/sp]
I kind of wish you could watch the tape. The filesize would be huge in my case because I had the camera on 80% of the time.

yeah, I was hoping to kinda get some sort of "highlights" tape or something in the end or in some extras file. would've been an interesting watch.

Pretty sure that's what they imply, but games like this always annoy me. why couldn't he stand on a chair or a desk?, locked doors and metal bar's on the windows is alright as legitimate believable barriers but shitty little stacks of chairs and tables that you could easily climb over let alone move when there's no one around just breaks the immersion more so.
That said at least it's not actually an invisible wall.
This game is kind of offensive, but that's not going to stop me from loving it. It was scary, and had a very good story.
The part that got me personally was the [sp]crucifixion of Father Martin.[/sp]
That was such a good fucken game, I loved it, and I was completely immersed with all the little animations and how you could see your whole body.
When you go outside again, it just looks amazing with the rain, lightning and the darkness.

Offensive? What?
maybe he is actually amish or something
I just ran through the game a second time, dicking around at some areas, exploring for all notes and documents.
I had the camera up at all times possible, so cutscenes [sp]and the part where you lose the cam[/sp] not included, I finished with [sp]just over 2 hours[/sp] of camera footage.

I guess the note you get from recording it can be considered offensive.
[sp]"I can't believe Father Martin one-upped Jesus Christ himself in shitty ways to die"[/sp]

You can reach the vent just fine. However, the first time you enter that vent, [sp]the guy who locked himself into the bathroom comes into that room, and locks the door as he runs out again.[/sp]
The game seems repetitive. Always cat and mouse ;s.. and I am pretty bad at being the mouse. haha.
Sorry for necroing the thread like an asshole, but I jokingly emailed the main character, Miles Upshur, and I surprisingly got an email back from him a few days later.

Many people have emailed him before, but I hope it's not someone pulling my leg.
They are working on a prequel DLC, that's the one he's talking about.
