• In Which Yogscast single-handedly ruined minecon for notch

I'm having a hard time believing this. In a two part interview before the event between Notch, Simon, and Lewis, they were all laughing and talking about random stuff. Did it really go down hill that fast afterward?
These mediocre videos earn them more cash than your job does.
I fail to see how them making money from being partnered with youtube makes them any less idiotic, "youtube celebs" are pretty much all idiots that got lucky.
unless it's in a drunken rage
It's definitely not. Even says he likes their work at the end.
Might be a bit off-topic but has anyone noticed the insecurity in the Yogscast website with Google Chrome? The encryption on the address bar.
Totalbiscuit is a shining beacon of logic and truth. You might say he's a cunt, and he probably is, but I'd say is part because he is British and thus entitled of being a cunt, and part of the no holds barred torrent of non-sugarcoated truth he pumps in your general direction when you get him started on some controversial issue. No matter how laid back and chilled you are, he will always find a way to offend you. It's probably a good thing that he can't be in the States with his wife as much as he'd like, because if she asked him whether her ass looks big in her new dress, he wouldn't just respond with "Yes, dear, your ass does indeed look big in that dress", but he'd also proceed to explain on a mentoring level that it's not just because of the dress that her ass looks big, but it's just that her ass is fat and it's making the dress's buttock aestethics look out of proportion with the rest of the dress, and that said issue is most likely the result of her midnight fridge icecream shenanigans. Everyone is an adoring fan of Totalbiscuit, until they engage in a conversation with him. They then become disgruntled fans of Totalbiscuit. P.S. He is also the only man on the internets who's real name is significantly more awesome than their pseudo anonymous online handle.
He says the right things sometimes but goddamn is he a big baby about certain things. I just stopped watching his videos and eventually unsubscribed because every goddamn day it was just 3 videos: one about some indie game I don't give two shits about and 2 bitching about the current state of gaming, with 30 minutes of video game going on in the background. It just got old. He is an eloquent speaker and I can see the appeal but I still think he gets way too much attention for what is basically ranting for a couple hours a day. Also he got really popular thanks to his Cataclysm beta videos, then just stopped doing WoW shit, started up again for a few weeks then quit in a big 45 minute video ripping Blizzard for the game not being difficult enough while at the same time not even playing the game. Pretty hypocritical if you ask me.
I fail to see how them making money from being partnered with youtube makes them any less idiotic, "youtube celebs" are pretty much all idiots that got lucky.
Never said it's less idiotic, it's idiotic, entertaining, and allows them to make more cash than you do, with probably far less trouble, so it may be idiotic, but it's their job, and they're damn good at it.
just woke up after about 14 hours sleep, horribly jetlagged, will try and record something about this tonight
We're getting a video instead! How lovely.
No proof other then countless stories like this about how nice they were, and much less about how not nice.
If yogscast really is the lifeblood behind minecraft, I'm sure most of the people going would therefore be Yogscast fans and in turn not want to disrespect them. I hate most commentators for videogames, though. Especially the british ones that ride a sea of superficial fame because of our accent.
Personally, I really think they had to have done something. Notch has never blatantly said things like that ever before.
And the yogscast have never ever shown any aggresive or abusive attitude. I don't understand why there is still even a disscusion, all we have to go on are notches tweets (a man known to troll the community) and a whole LOAD of people saying the yogscast did nothing wrong. At the VERY MOST it was all a misunderstanding.
lol minecraft drama. I remember when it used to be such an amazing humble little indie game that I thought was breathtaking. Now it's annoying trendy shit with a retarded fanbase.
#Skyrim :v:
Notch must be using Frenzy, that sneaky son of a bitch.
Love how whenever someone says not to take sides, they're agreed with, but then people spend the rest of the thread bashing yogscast. Personally, I like the Yogscast, and I honestly think this whole thing is a giant joke perpetrated by them and Notch, but even if it isn't, I don't give a shit. I find their mod reviews entertaining, Hannah's LPs are enjoyable to watch while working on something else, and Shadow of Israfael is entertaining and humorous. I don't believe that they're as important to minecraft as many people say, but I still enjoy them. I vote that everyone just shuts the fuck up and quits bashing one side ("I don't like them therefore they are shit and attract only to 12-year-olds hurr")while trying to pretend that they're being neutral on the matter for now.
How much subscribers had Yogscast before? O.o
I liked Yogscast, I thought the idea of bringing the story and glory of D&D to minecraft actually was extremely interesting. They inspired me to do this sort of stuff on a server I'm part of, and are an influential part of the Minecraft community. However, when I hear horror stories like this, I lose respect for them. I'm still going to watch their videos, give them likes, and enjoy the stuff they make, but I disrespect them. I don't like them as much as a person as I liked them before.
I would say at LEAST wait until thier side of this comes out, There is a lot more positive reports from MineCon then there is negative of them
That's what I planned on doing, but hearing things on reddit, reading notch's tweets, and other experiences I've heard about all come from credible sources. I'm obviously not going to deny all evidence of them being good people, but if Yogscast does come out with some sort of explanation of apology, then I will take that into consideration as well. Also, I've seen plenty of comments on Yogscast videos saying things to the effect of "Fuck notch, I <3 yogscast". Not sure if that's just crazy fanboy-ism or genuine experiences, but I have a strong feeling it's the former due to the nature of comments.
Even if we took Notch at his word and believed everything he said about Yogscast 100% (which I don't), it would amount to the Yogscast making a few off color jokes and expecting to be reimbursed for travel and speaking engagements. On the whole, even if people want to debate the role of the Yogscast in Minecraft's success (I lean towards legitimate contribution but not deciding factor there), their videos have only benefitted him with hours of free advertising. On the flip side, Notch's thoughtless actions have already made their lives considerably worse through bad press/harrassment/DDoSing. He basically unleashed his horde of angry, unthinking childfans while pretending he was "forced" to it, then issued a halfassed apology and fucked off. It's just a dick move and he should be professional and grown up enough to know better.
This is the best summary of everything so far. Also, one of the members of Yogscast is on SA and pretty much pointed out that all the bad things Notch says they did is all rumors. None of it actually happened and Notch is basically just being a socially awkward babylord as per usual. Hope this helps! e: and the yogs response video is filmed, they're just doing final edits before uploading and posting it.

Minecraft isn't just a game about building things, it's also there to ruin any friendship.
I don't really care. (User was banned for this post ("Pointless reply" - Swebonny))
I don't really care.
And yet you posted in this thread in order to manifest your opinion. Great Job
I thought they had said that they would be doing a response within 24 hours? Hasn't it been over 24 hours?
I thought they had said that they would be doing a response within 24 hours? Hasn't it been over 24 hours?
They have just been on a plane from a good way across the world, jetlagged, and likely ill from concrud. I would rather wait and hear a well thought out explanation then a hurried one.
I thought they had said that they would be doing a response within 24 hours? Hasn't it been over 24 hours?
Over 48 I'd say
It was 24 hours, but then delayed another 24 hours due to "Con-flu" then another delay after 13 hour sleep, due to jetlag.
It was 24 hours, but then delayed another 24 hours due to "Con-flu" then another delay after 13 hour sleep, due to jetlag.
Prolly thinking of just the right thing to say to sway the audience.
Comment from Hannah on one of the videos- "Notch has fallen prey to listening to idle gossip and fibs before and whiteknighting them. This is a repeat of that, you'll see our statement in a bit, hopefully less than an hour."
It's up. [editline]23rd November 2011[/editline] Oh and this. http://www.reddit.com/r/Minecraft/comments/mnau9/yogscast_response_to_notchs_twitterings/
Holy shite Mojang actually sold their livestream to IGN without first mentioning it to them.
Anticlimax and a half...
