• In Which Yogscast single-handedly ruined minecon for notch
lest yogcast forget, they make a living off minecraft, which Notch allows them to do 100% for free.
By removing that copyright he fucks over an entire section of the YouTube community made up of Minecraft videos. He's got to choose between his fans, or the famous duo who are mainly the reason for Minecraft getting so big after SeaNanners left the scene. But he has a chance to choose both, if he sets things straight with the Yogscast.
I'm starting to doubt that you've ever watched any of their videos.
I have, and YogsCast videos just seem rather dull. I don't see how a rather cheap storyline makes an LP any more special. Anyway, I refuse to continue this because I'm going to end up getting banned.
Hopefully the Yogscast make a good response to this, I don't want to see a stupid dispute over the word 'fuck' in front of a supposed 'kid' who's probably heard it more times than day's he has spent living. [editline]21st November 2011[/editline] I'd just like to add that British people are known for taking the piss out of literally EVERYTHING. It's out nature.
That's as may be, but we can also be humble and grateful.
I dunno. Guess we'll just have to wait and see how the Yogscast respond. I mean, at this stage we have no idea whether it's Simon and Lewis who Notch was having a go at, or if it's the rest of the Yogscast, or if it's all of them together. Oh, and it's kind of annoying having people come into the thread just to say "yeah man I never liked the Yogscast anyway" as if that has anything to do with it.
lest yogcast forget, they make a living off minecraft, which Notch allows them to do 100% for free.
They also do other games such as Dead Island, the views on those videos average around 500,000 each video, which would easily allow them to earn a living.

In my opinion, the story could do with some work but it is excellently done overall, I don't think anyone else could've pulled the same story out of their brains, not with twists such as those in SoI. [editline]21st November 2011[/editline]
That's as may be, but we can also be humble and grateful.
Just because we take the piss out of everything doesn't remove the fact we are truly a lovable country. Apart from obvious ... flaws in the system.
From what I had read, I think Notch may have over-reacted a bit, but I can see his point. Yet, I still do not think that Yogscast done anything extremely unfavorable, but just acted themselves when they could have perhaps been a bit more formal. Will be interesting to see what Simon and Lewis will have to say on the matter, but I do not think it will effect Notch's and the Yogscast's relationship too much in the long run, and the biggest problem with the whole thing are the fans that are arguing with each other and sending hateful messages to those involved.
I've also noticed the favourable amount of Brits who have posted in this thread.
lest yogcast forget, they make a living off minecraft, which Notch allows them to do 100% for free.
For movies and music I can see the argument but for games, no. If anything Yogscast HAS paid Notch through the many people who had bought minecraft because of their videos. This can be applied for almost every major "Lets Play" person out there.
I hate the yogscast and i'm british. They're grown men and they act like fucking children. Their voices annoy me. That is all.
I hate the yogscast and i'm british. They're grown men and they act like fucking children. Their voices annoy me. That is all.
It's a hit or miss concept with most people.
Yogscast isn't just Simon and Lewis, so I'm sure there were other members there. Which ones, however, remains to be seen. If I remember correctly, at Pax when Simon and Lewis were answering questions, a little kid asked a question and they answered it like they would any other.
I find it interesting that you all credit Yogscast with getting Minecraft "popular", however it didn't really explode until Valve actually blogged about it on their (TF2?) blog. Keep in mind that had the Minecraft webserver(s) going up and down for roughly a week. If anyone has gained anything from Minecraft (not counting Notch and his holidays here here), it's the Yogscast. They were trying to get popular with World of Warcraft (which they had minor success in) and swapped to Minecraft, which boosted their success massively. You could argue they owed Notch something due to the success of his game.

I'm sure it was Duncan, but i'm also not too sure whether Lalna is called Duncan. There's only one I know of who isn't there, his name's Rory I think, he was in the new SoI Out-takes video.
I hate the yogscast and i'm british. They're grown men and they act like fucking children. Their voices annoy me. That is all.
I was under the impression they were 16-19ish, their voices don't match. At all. Brrr

You can't say that they were 'trying' to get popular with any game, they just played what they enjoyed. In fact, the two met through a Somethingawful World of Warcraft clan and began making tutorial videos. The playthroughs of their other games easily match or exceed the number of views they get on their Minecraft videos, and yes, while you can say that Minecraft is responsible for a significant amount of subscribers and views, you can't claim that they owe Notch for their success.
I was under the impression they were 16-19ish, their voices don't match. At all. Brrr
They're both over 30, I know Simon's like 34 or something.
Is anyone else finding it physically impossible to unsubscribe from these jerks on youtube? Seriously I hit the button three times now.
I was under the impression they were 16-19ish, their voices don't match. At all. Brrr
Lewis is in the mid/late 20s and Simon is 30-40. If it wasn't Simon, Lewis, or Hannah causing the shitstorm, I hope that some dick that nobody has ever heard of doesn't ruin the whole Yogscast thing. If it was them, I feel disappointed not only in them, but myself for not seeing through the "nice guys" image. I wouldn't recommend hitting the unsubscribe button until we get more information other than tweets.
They're both over 30, I know Simon's like 34 or something.
If my math is correct: Simon is 33, Lewis is 28.
Christ. Which is the one who screams "AWWWWH" at anything smaller than a pig?
Simon, the fat, dwarf brony who's obsessed with jaffa cakes (I have no idea what those even are!). Why the dumbs? He is.
I'm gonna stay neutral on this whole thing. I respect Notch but I'm also a fan of the Yogscast. Their videos (not just the minecraft stuff) are pretty entertaining and they don't seem like they're the kind of people that would do stuff like this. If they actually did I'm really surprised. But in their interview with Notch they were all getting along so well which makes me wonder how his opinion could change so fast.

Compared to a million + for their MC videos and roughly half a million for anything non-MC related, I think it's fair to say that their other videos come no where close, especially pre-MC. Do they "owe" Notch? Not at all however it should at least be acknowledged (as you do) that it certainly helped them.

I honestly hope it was one of them.
Yes, after they hit success with Minecraft. The Yogscast fanbase is overall pretty terrible so I don't associate with them. But then again I guess the same could be said for a lot of Notch's fanbase.
People still arguing with one side of the story?
Simon, the fat, dwarf brony.
I didn't know he was a brony? On another note, people have been saying their subs have been decreasing, all i've seen is it dropping by 1, and then increasing again by like 6.
There are members other than Simon and Lewis that you don't see or hear much about. I honestly hope it was one of them.
Yeah I hope it was one of those guys too. Simon and Lewis seem like cool people.
I have a feeling both sides may have been slightly drunk/dazzled at the time; however, I feel the "favour" Yogscast gave notch by coming for free is not only one way. No doubt they would gain more fame and subscribers both in and outside the internet after this event (if they didn't supposedly fuck up). Yes, Yogscast may have made the game somewhat more popular, but in the end both parts have prospered on this. Notch doesn't have to "repay" anything. And besides, if Yogscast didn't fill the role of spreading videos on the subject, I'm sure others would simply fill the space. (also, if minecraft never got made, what would Yogscast be? Just another podcast group?) Personally I'm with notch on this issue. They were there on "official" business and they should act accordingly, not like big arrogant babies. Still, we don't have a lot of info, so I might be wrong.
