I'm proud to say even through all of this my opinion of Yogscast has not changed. I still don't like them.
Thanks for sharing your insightful and reasonable opinion with the thread.
I don't like Simon and Lewis that much but I do like watching their videos. They might be dicks but they're dicks that can make some pretty decent videos.
They babble on unwittingly with their BBC accents about a game they think is for nerds, how is that a good video?
I don't see why this has to be such a big deal Clearly there's been some form of exaggeration on both sides of the argument, and regardless of what they actually did do, it still boils down to a bit of a disagreement between Notch and a large youtube channel. I really wouldn't call that ruining Minecon, and as far as I can tell it hasn't damaged notch in reputation or business. The events do seem to paint an unpleasant picture, but then again it is being painted by a single side of the situation. Just seeing the interview between the Yogscast and Notch shows that they weren't doing terribly well around notch (IE Rather awkward and occasionally inappropriate discussion) and whether that is down to intentional comments or nerves getting the best of them is simply a matter of opinion currently. It's kind of like someone being a dick at a birthday party, the person whom the party is for will often become disproportionately upset and declaring it "ruined" to show them up as punishment for disrupting an otherwise special day. In this case it was a gigantic launch ceremony and a couple of errant comments. Inversely, It seems that they are letting their position as internet celebrities effect them, I personally got the impression that they believed themselves to be known by all who play the game, which is not exactly the perfect attitude in a situation requiring at least a slightly humble disposition. Who knows, some people would not believe that the fellows at the Yogscast would do such bad things, but can also be agreed that they aren't perfect. Again; exaggeration.
Never liked Yogscast, probably never will, now that this went down.
I'm proud to say even through all of this my opinion of Yogscast has not changed. I still don't like them.
I really don't like most minecraft videos at all anyways
Notch is active again on Twitter. I wonder how long it'll take for him to notice how big of a apocalyptic storm of drama he caused here.
I wonder how much bitching it'll take before he gives a flying fuck.
I don't see the big deal. Kids will f-bomb you right back.
I don't see why this has to be such a big deal Clearly there's been some form of exaggeration on both sides
Yogscast haven't released any official opinion yet http://www.facebook.com/yogscast/posts/10150394251026137 notch is the only side that has spoken. [editline]21st November 2011[/editline] I'd much rather seen notch actually working on Minecraft then complaining about Youtube celebs.
Notch tries to settle legal disputes with quake matches and calls people out on twitter instead of contacting them. The modern businessman who knows how things get done.
Whoa, quick, go to bluexephos' channel page and refresh it repeatedly. Their subscriber count is steadily decreasing. EDIT: It was in the five seconds I took to verify my claim.
Whoa, quick, go to bluexephos' channel page and refresh it repeatedly. Their subscriber count is steadily decreasing.
From about an hour ago it's gone up by 180 subs.
Whoa, quick, go to bluexephos' channel page and refresh it repeatedly. Their subscriber count is steadily decreasing.
About an hour (maybe two, somewhere around there) ago I saw the sub count at 1,223,223. At the time of this post it is 1,223,376. It's not decreasing, it's still increasing. This isn't caused by notch and his twitter posts, it's completely normal with really high subscription counts. Nothing is actually happening besides people overreacting.
It's just a bunch of Notch-cock-sucking fanboys. Seriously, they were in Vegas. It's not really a kid friendly place, especially at night. If Notch if you wanted a kid friendly environment, try something that's kid friendly, like Disneyland or some city that's not full of casino, pimps and whores.
The guys at Desertbus.org just mentioned the situation on their live broadcast when a bunch of dickheads from the Yogscast community came in to talk shit to Notch when he was in the Desert Bus charity live chat. I think the Yogscast part of the community are being little shits/huge dicks when they spill it over into charity chats like DBFH.
Notch tries to settle legal disputes with quake matches and calls people out on twitter instead of contacting them. The modern businessman who knows how things get done.
He's a very strange person, but then again considering he made Minecraft it's to be expected.
http://www.youtube.com/user/BlueXephos Refresh and watch the subscribers drop!
I saw them gain a sub
Yogscast is shit anyway, if what Notch said is true, I wouldn't be surprised at all.
My avatar is my reaction to this shitstorm. I'm just watching with amusement.
Don't know if late or not, but from reddit, supposedly by one of the crew members of Yogscast.
Okay. So I'm not here to stir the pot, but I do want to set a couple of the facts straight. I am not directly connected to Yogscast. But I was the staff member who wrangled them from one place to the next (wearing a black fedora). First, to @amazingorigami - if you are, in fact, the person who had the sign in FedEx, then thank you again for giving it back to the Yogscast crew. My other teammate took it directly up to them and he said there were cheers of joy that we were able to find it. I had the sign custom made by FedEx earlier that morning for the event. I completely apologize if you felt I tried to rip it out of your bag. I was merely trying to help peel it away carefully. If I had known it left gummy stuff in your pack, I would have found you a second bag as a replacement. Again, thank you for returning the sign. You were super awesome about it and could have said no. But you gave it up without hesitation and with a smile. My apologies again that you ended up with a sticky bag. : As for the Scrolls/Cobalt. Yogscast made no demands. We politely asked the crew from Mojang if they could record a quick segment about the game, and they agreed it could be done before the doors opened. It is accurate there was a request for 5 minutes, but then a couple of the Mojang team offered to demo the games to them. When the doors opened, the Mojang team decided to continue the demo rather than ask the Yogscast folks to move out of the way. There was no stink about being asked to leave. In fact, when one of the other staff mistakenly took the mouse away from the Mojang team member who was demoing scrolls, they accepted it and moved on. (They paid to come to Minecon just like everyone else btw) As for the tickets: I numbered them. I handed them out. They were not handed out before the panel ended. And they were handed out in the expo hall - right next to where the autographs were being done. In fact, I waited until after the panel was complete, and folks moved into the expo hall so they would have an equal opportunity. Unfortunately, the expo hall was scheduled to close at 4p, and the Yogscast team were given a very strict cutoff. The line of "True fans would have skipped the panel to get the autograph" is inaccurate. They wanted everyone to be able to enjoy the panel. It was a good show. I'm a little disappointed there is this much hate and discontent going about without folks knowing the whole story.
Have you guys even considered the fact that maybe they got into some sort of behind the scenes argument, and notch in retaliation posted nasty comments about them in order to start some sort of controversy with his fans? This isn't the first time he's issued the mine raft defense force.

The diva thing came out from them hanging out with their own crowd. And the styrofoam thing came up because the thing wasn't supposed to be thrown out, but the guy who gave it to the girl didn't know that. Or perhaps they did act like self-entitled pricks. We should get the story from both sides. And not in the form of tweets that amount to nothing.
The kind of righteous fervor that comes when "minecraft" comes as one of the sides you can be on is fucking unbelievable. But in the case where "minecraft" represents both sides, christ
I don't really see why people are making such a big deal out of this? It's really petty honestly. Go enjoy Minecraft without all this drama.
I feel stupid for having read every post in this thread. My brain has actually deteriorated from absorbing the information presented by the people in this discussion. Really I couldn't give two shits about this drama, though I suppose it's going to be a pain in the ass because I enjoy the Yogscast and I plan to stay subscribed to them, but I just know that my subscription box is going to be full of drama videos for the next week or so until this blows over and both parties extract their respective posterial obstructions and move the fuck on with their lives. I'll be over here, attempting to play and talk about Minecraft without having this shit that I don't care about shoved in my face.
If what notch said about "They called us "a bunch of nerds who don't know how to run a company"" is true, I feel they're getting in deep water. Does the Yogscast crew know how to run a company? Are they marketing gurus and CEOs of major gaming companies? I'm not saying that either side is as experienced/skilled at running companies, but if I had to choose, it would be Mojang. They've tackled the immense growth fairly well as far as i can see.
Not going to lie, the Yogscast is sort of right. Notch was really immature and unprofessional about posting what he did on twitter. He should realize that he's not posting for him anymore. He has the reputation of Mojang to worry about. Stirring up drama and calling the Yogscast dicks? He could have handled it way better.
This offers an amazing observation of internet communities, to see one split the moment two celebrities are at odds with each other. Its like watching animals kill each other in the wild. Fascinating.
