Do games normally list a day-night cycle as a feature? Nevermind highlighting how much inventory space you get.
That aside, what's wrong with it?
Alright, here's the back cover art I mentioned earlier:
Wow that is amazing!
Why can't our caves actually be like the one on picture on the right?
The New Vegas one hurts my head real badly. The caps are disproportionate to one another, the cards are too big, the text on the backside goes over the card, but under the gun and said gun appears to be smaller than a playing card. My brain.
Also, because I got shit on by everyone that means I can't share my opinion of someone else's box?
Well yeah. Try showing up to a classic car show in a beat up 89 civic and giving them advice on their cars.
Oh and while we are doing the "Post minecraft box to show up OP" I want to post this. Most of it was done by hand. the features were added by MCEdit because I got lazy. Due to this thread, I decided to make my own.
oh god the edges
Due to this thread, I decided to make my own.
in ms paint? Edit: Also the 3rd row left block is selected.
in ms paint?
No, in photoshop. The edges aren't that bad. Stop exaggerating, assholes.
The black/white are the clearly noticeable edge mishaps. The red is because: If I saw this on a shelf I would laugh at how stupid the animals look(Derp eyes). Also, yet again that one block is selected... Not saying it sucks... I'm saying you could do better. EDIT: You know i just noticed a ton more but im not going to be uber-douche and find every single one.
Due to this thread, I decided to make my own.
Not a bad concept. Explains a lot of the game without words.
Not a bad concept. Explains a lot of the game without words.
My favorite thing about it is how it shows the two "sides" or "teams" for day and night. But it should show the creative aspect...
My favorite thing about it is how it shows the two "sides" or "teams" for day and night. But it should show the creative aspect...
That can always be explained in the back. The point of box art is too grab the attention of someone. Customers always look at both sides of the box. A good example is Left 4 Dead's box art. You don't really know what it is because all you see is a hand missing a thumb. But it does get your attention. EDIT: And I did some touch up on it that hopefully corrects the issues.
It mainly caught customers attention due to the colour pallet. It's green and stands out far in the distance when next to other covers.
But still, you get what I mean. Step 1: Grab the customer's attention with an eye-catching box art. Step 2: Engage the customer in the features on the back of the box with the dust jacket and images.
Sticking to something visually simple can also work out good (sometimes even with a lot less time and effort). Here's my 10 minute attempt of it: (To note the background wasn't created by me but I'm only using this as an example, granted if everything was created by scratch I most probably still wouldn't spend 5+ hours, I'd rather use that time to carefully brainstorm on what I'm going to create by hand.)

I do like the concept though. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline] although it does make the game look less blocky
The logo looks stretched out/ low resolution. I do like the concept though. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline] although it does make the game look less blocky
Yeah it's pretty noticeable. I didn't decide to spend much time on finding higher quality sources or further detailing the picture though considering this is just a quick example. Nearly anybody can definitely do a better job of it though.

But there should be a house... To show the creativity... anywhere... and the left side should be light with animals on the ground while the right side is dark with a lava source in the distance as a ton of enemies close in around said house.

But would you people PLEASE stop using GAMES FOR WINDOWS LIVE banner? It's an automatic turn-down for me everytime I see it.

The graphics itself is enough to make any idiot in a retail store to go, "wow shit graphics wtf $30 fail," and go pick up a more visually appealing game instead. Also that box art looks like it's using a texture mod. [editline]25th September 2011[/editline]
Asides from the logo, this concept is great. Every PC game in retail stores use the Games For Windows banner. Unless they changed it and I'm unaware of this.
I made this for shits and giggles : [sp](not supposed to be taken as a serious suggestion)[/sp]
Alright fine I spent around 15 more minutes improving my mockup. [del]I for the life of me cannot find a high quality clean Minecraft logo.[/del] Thanks xZippy [editline]26th September 2011[/editline]
The mojang logo should be at the right of the box art
Taken into account.
The mojang logo should be at the right of the box art
I for the life of me cannot find a high quality clean Minecraft logo.
This one is pretty high quality.
This one is pretty high quality.
It's a bitch to cut properly though. I don't understand why the guy put that shitty gradient black background thing on the background, it wasn't necessary.
Clearly the best box art...
It's a bitch to cut properly though.
