Still don't see the reason. Me and others did quite fine with the free for all drop system. It's not like we couldn't hold off monsters/bosses on our own anyway.
I think they did it for people with shitty characters, like the ones that put points into things that they don't need. Let them suffer, I say.
What about people who don't kill as much as you but take most of the drops because that's where their focus is? You're telling me you don't mind those? And don't tell me that you'd just kill them because multiplayer co-op in Diablo 3 won't support PVP anywhere outside of the arenas.
Remember all those magic-find runs you used to do? Did you do them alone or with other people? The most likely answer is that you did them alone (or perhaps in populated servers but away from people because you'd get more exp/items). Why? So that other people wouldn't take your goods.
The Diablo 3 devs want Diablo 3 to not punish people for trying to play together, so each player gets individual drops so that there's no rush for items and no competition for items, just more emphasis on working together to slay monsters. I know that I am definitely going to play co-op more often when doing item runs (as opposed to doing co-op just for progression or exp).
It should be the devs' way of making people more aware that their characters are shitty.
Except the devs are making it so that all skills can be viable in PVM, so if someone isn't doing well it's not because they have a shitty build, but perhaps a weaker playstyle or worse gear. While it can encourage them to change their playstyle a bit, punishing them for having worse gear is an awful idea.
You have to update your dxdiag settings on battle.net again, even if you didn't change any hardware, for Diablo 3 beta.
The auction house doesn't sound like a bad idea.. I'd love to be playing a melee class, find a rare Staff and sell it on for cash.
Yeah, but that's going to lead people to instead play the game for money making, not for enjoyment. Now playing Diablo III is job that promotes wasting your life and also becoming obese. Now it's become a game for making money without a job, not for playing anymore.
What about people who don't kill as much as you but take most of the drops because that's where their focus is? You're telling me you don't mind those? .
Not at all. I do magic find runs on my own, yes, but any other run is fair game since I don't have my magic finding gear on. If I do happen to find a good item, sure I would be disappointed for a while if I didn't get it, but I wouldn't have my magic finding gear on anyway, so it wouldn't matter that much.
This mindset may come from me running people through bosses for fun. I love running Diablo and Baal, and do it for others as well.

Does anyone know what those are? I've played D2 for years and still haven't figured out what they are or what they do.

They open the character and spells tabs when you have points to spend.
Welp. I feel stupid :(

Can't believe you have played D2 for YEARS and not figured out what those are... I mean they go red EVERY time you level up.

So you've played the game and haven't leveled up? How do you survive?
Well this was convenient.

Cave is the Underground Passage.
I still play

If you have D2 and the expansion, send me a PM, maybe we can play together. Level 57 Ladder "softcore" Hybrid Zealer paladin, etc.
EDIT: USWest
Up to level fortyseven and on act V in median xl. Good damn I died like fifty times against diablo.

Wait until you're in hell difficulty, oh man
[editline]9th August 2011[/editline]
Hey, if anyone wants to play Median XL I'd love that, I'm level 105.
Up to level fortyseven and on act V in median xl. Good damn I died like fifty times against diablo.
I did too. However I never did find Diablo that difficult. He's nowhere near overpowered as Duriel. And that's considering I fought him around level 30 or so. (I beat the game as a level 34 Barbarian.)
So now I hit level 76 after some Baal runs, my zeal does 1.2K-1.4K, my base defence in total is about 3.6K now, socketed a 4 socketed ethereal chainmail, ended up with a "Stone" runeword chainmail with 2.6k defence. Now I roll around with my holy shield that gives me an additional 160% Base defense, etc ending up with around 8.8K Defense, 12.3K Defense with defiance on.
Also, I rushed some guys from normal to nightmare and gave out alot of stuff I didn't need  D2 rocks.
It's crazy how much this game changed since I last played it. Bots flood into room constantly blocking the screen in walls of text, the only "polite" bot said key N will clear the screen. Then there's hammerdins, They jump in a Baal run, teleport up to Baal and insta-gib him and take all the loot.

They have to leech on the enigmas +1 to teleport to be of any use, real men play classes that are uncommon such as the smiter/zealer/bowamazon, etc.
EDIT: Today I got instagibbed by some Sorceress who claimed to do over 60k damage, not even my defence could save me from such an onslaught.
So you've played the game and haven't leveled up? How do you survive?
I found out I was playing in a different resolution, so everytime I leveled up two red boxes would appear outside the grey bar, instead of inside them.
I can't even get this to work, I installed the latest patch and then copied the mod files into the d2 directory and when I try and load it complains about not being able to load the mod.dll file

Then I think the mod won't run. I've encountered similar errors when running the High-Resolution Mod, and so I was forced to stop using it. However, you may have to use an earlier version of the mod. Either that, or maybe you Windows version is compatible with it.
Windows 7 64-bit, from what I know it's completely compatible with diablo 2
[editline]11th August 2011[/editline]
Ok I've just re-installed diablo2 / LOD and patched to 1.12a because that's the one compatible with the mod, but when I double click it, it just shows the 'loading' animation on the cursor then stops and nothing happens.

I never even got hit once by duriel... That spider guy died in like 30 seconds...now the uber boss lord duriel may prove to be difficult
Oh well, "No Mods" does not mean "No Mods" in Blizzard games. Really easy to swap/inject stuff if it's still using MPQs.
Seeing as everything is online and handled by Blizzard's servers, it probably won't be that easy.
This high resolution mod is genuinely starting to piss me off :v:
I have diablo2/LOD installed, patched to 1.12a, the mod files are in the correct place (diablo2 directory) and yet it doesn't do anything when I double-click the 'D2MultiResGame' application.
Well, the one thing it does do is think for a couple seconds then do nothing, then everything on the desktop is laggy whilst the game doesn't load up..

Depends on what difficulty you were on. I was playing on normal. Duriel becomes less powerful the higher the difficulty. At the time I fought him, his hits had taken away more health from me per hit than Diablo or any of the other bosses.

Err... what?
Duriels HP in Normal:3,995
Duriels HP in Nightmare:55,799
Duriels HP in Hell:84,524
You've got your facts wrong.

I meant he was less of a threat, not that he had less health. I've seen several people that have fought him on higher difficulty and they said he was easier than on normal, regardless of health.

How does that work? I thought you picked one or the other.
