Just a picture, but if you're coming from the top of the stairs, all you do is see white eyes peaking over the railing. White eyes mean monster, mostly bloodsucker since they go invisible.

Water, fire, electricity, crackheads with magical powers, an "artist" who kills people and covers them in plaster (He doesn't seem that good at killing people, since i went into a dark basement, hacked open a safe, collected my loot, turned around to exit the room and A FUCKING STATUE ATTACKED ME.)
It's all pretty tame, moaning monsters in diving suits escorting girls with sea slugs implanted into them, those fucking ghost scenes, the picture flashbacks, but then you get to this:

And I wanted to play stalker. Not anymore.
The music in there is what makes the lion 10x creepier. Not to mention that it's an abandoned kindergarten and there's nothing at all in the hallways.

And it's scary because it's dark, and when you turn that corner to go up the stairs, you get greeted by this creepy lion. It surprises you enough to shoot at it.
