So in stalker soc when you meet the first controller you are given three choices:
1. Shoot that bastard
2. Run with soiled suit
3. Get your mind pulled out of your body.
When i first saw that fucker (i knew he was going to be there) he psy-attacked and i was confused so he killed me in 5 seconds. Take 2. Then i tried to shoot the bastard, he still killed me in 5 seconds. Take 3. I tried grenades, almost the same happened. I threw a grenade at him but it didnt damage him. So i decided to run. I climbed the ladder outside and... It was a false exit. I was stuck with a controller nearing me and the screen was turning red.
All of these are the wrong option. As with all terrifying mutants in STALKER, you get out your knife and stab it in the fucking face. Same goes for the bloodsucker.
After doing the mission in CoP where you sneak through the Bloodsucker Lair, I just went right back in there and chucked an F1 Grenade into their sleeping room and just stabbed the crap out of them with my knife. By the time I had finished, my armor was in ribbons, I had gone through 14 health kits, and used all my bandages.
I found out that the grenade had only killed 2 out of the massive horde of them. The knife is a mutant-killing machine.

That Demon
I remember it so well. I can't fucking stand that thing Jesus fuck it.
Ravenholm terrified me the first time I went through it.
I'm currently playing Penumbra: Overture and I keep getting freaked out. It wouldn't be as bad if it weren't for the god damn music. It's easy to get immersed in it, though.
When gm_ghosthunt first came out, I was too scared to go in on my own. I've gotten better since then.

SO MUCH THIS.
I reinstalled it the other day, and forgot about the danger noises. I was playing, it was night time, and my Sim was eating a late dinner. suddenly, a raccoon walked on the yard unbeknownst to me. my sim goes into his room, and as soon as he laid down in his bed-
DUN DUUUN DUN DUUUN with my volume up ridiculously high for some reason.
Scared the ever living fuck out of me.
Thread deserves a bump, skip to 3:35

As I have already told in this thread, Sims is the most terrifying game I've ever played.
Quick reminder: Ghosts, Evil Clowns , Werevolfes , some mysterious stuff, default sims keep in memory , monster in Sims 3 , pregnant men
When I was a kid , I couldn't play at night with ghosts. They freaking possessed my pillows
When your first playing ravelholm, and your on a rooftop looking for some zombies, when suddenly in the distance you here an animal like moaning. Then, 5 seconds later you see this motherfucker pouncing right at your face speaking gibberish.

The fast zombies didnt really scare me when I was first playing through HL2 (I was fairly young). Poison headcrabs did freak me out though.
I just shot a metal hook at the first fast zombie I came across and killed it instantly.
I see HL2's zombies as more annoying than scary, personally.
This creeps me out, especially when I'm all alone in a dark room at night.

The corpse on the intro to Ravenholm that makes that laughing/crying noise.
The only thing i can think of is when you're being chased by a monster in amnesia or one is SO CLOSE to finding you...
I dont know why, but video games usually never scare me. (unless its a cheap jump scare.)
This, so many times, one of the main reasons of why its so scary is because of that horrible whirring sound that gets louder when they're closer to finding you.

Rockstar said once that it was deliberate, and it's to emphasise Niko's post-traumatic state of mind. She's allegedly a figment of his imagination.

it's a good thing rockstar never makes mistakes ever
I can't think of any good personal examples, but this noise still makes my brother feel really uncomfortable and creeped out.

I just got a new computer after my last one pretty much imploded, and I thought, "Oh WHAT NOW."
