Not always. I remember when I broke the lock in the prison, the monster made me panic and run into him and I died. He was still wandering around, and the lock was still broken when I got back to the gate.
Daniel is supposed to be knocked out by them, hence still-broken locks and whatnot, because the developers didn't want people just going through the same parts again and again after dying and the game becoming less frightening
I had an old copy of Shark: Hunting the Great White and god it's pretty suprising at times, especially since it's old and you can only see sharks like 20 feet away from you. Not to mention the second to last and last levels.
Fucking love that game, scared the shit out of me when I was younger, but now it's just kinda really easy
In correlation to the post before, Nihilanth does actually say a few interesting things.
The explanations in that video aren't really fact. I always thought the Nihilanth was talking about the Combine. By saying "we are their slaves", he meant that the combine were coming for him, hence why he escaped to Xen. "I am the last", the combine killed/enslaved all others of his kind. "You can never know the Truth", the bigger picture involving the Combine and what they've done to the galaxy/universe/multiple worlds. "You cannot win" even though Freeman destroys the Nihilanth, he is carted away for years, Earth is invaded, and shit gets fucked anyway. Doesn't seem like a lie to me. Half life is so damn interesting, which makes the absence of episode 3/half life 3 all the more frustrating.
Yume Nikki could use a Megathread, I'd love to see what kind of theories FP could come up with after playing the game some, seeing as how 90% of what the game is actually about is basically allegory.
I'd make it, but I'm too afraid to google it like I previously mentioned :P
Croc: Legend of Grobbos That motherfucker at 2:41 freaked me out legitimately Also the size of the eyes in that game were down-right disturbing
I remember my friends playing one of the croc games when I broke my wrist, good times.

From what i've heard, it's like Madotsuki (Yume Nikki PC) is recounting some terrible things in her life through her dreams, like maybe she was raped and/or murdered, or that she did something terrible (like raping and/or murdering someone), or perhaps she's simply watched too many fucked-up horror movies. There's a whole WORLD of possibilities as to what the hell this game is about, and those were just a few of them. Have a few more if you want.
People who don't get scared at Amnesia are the kind of fuck-nuggets who think DeadSpace was "A brilliant masterpiece of horror, as though it were written by Stanely Kubrick" Seriously, shove it up your ass. Amnesia is scary. Scary isn't turning around and having a monster scream really really loud, it's not a guy getting his entrails ripped out, and it most definitely isn't extreme.
Dead Space sucks and Amnesia really isn't that scary, especially when compared to Penumbra. The only part in Amnesia that ever got me is the invisible creature in the water and that was far more a moment of panic when I realized it was right behind me when I fell in the water than actually being scared. Penumbra: Black Plague (and likely the other Penumbra games but I haven't gotten around to playing those ones yet.) manages to create a far eerier atmosphere though despite a clunkier game engine worse graphics.

-snip, picture is gone now-
What is Yumme Nikki, like a even more fucked up version of earthbound?
Pretty much Earthbound + Amnesia
How does dead space suck exactly?
It didn't scare him, therefore, it sucks [editline]29th August 2011[/editline] Also, in Condemned, whenever you die, you see this: Every time, I feel extremely uncomfortable.
Pretty much Earthbound + Amnesia
Not really. It was more like a creepy game of exploration, with weird and often unsettling environments, various "Effects" that you collected and used to transform yourself, and almost no real narrative. Just a top-down creepy exploration game from my viewpoint. Pity it hasn't really been updated by the official maker yet, and I doubt it ever will be. There's just so much more that could be done with it...

Hmmm, there's always that rumor, might've happened. These things happen sometimes.
How does dead space suck exactly?
The controls are just shitty. Same reason I think Resident Evil sucks.
The controls are just shitty. Same reason I think Resident Evil sucks.
That's funny, I thought dead space had the good version of resident evil's control scheme. Also, how is a game bad if you don't like it's controls? You can change them you know.
Dead Space was fine from a technical standpoint, just not very scary is all. It was still fun to play.
Dead space was like resident evil 4 in space. Or if Resident Evil 4, Doom 3 and System Shock 2 had a threesome together.
It's not the specific control scheme but the overall over the shoulder thing. It feels ridiculously clunky and I can never accomplish anything with it.
Well, what kind of camera would you have done in a close combat horror game based in a spaceship?

OH MY GOD HOLY FUCKING... So scared back then. Also this
OH MY GOD HOLY FUCKING... So scared back then.
Most of the time the body vanishes, it's a theory his also the hyper kitchen zombie, that fucker don't stay dead
Daniel is supposed to be knocked out by them, hence still-broken locks and whatnot, because the developers didn't want people just going through the same parts again and again after dying and the game becoming less frightening
What I was thinking though was that maybe he passes out from the fear of his figments of his imagination. Somehow he crawls back somewhere else.
Has anyone here played/heard of Yume 2kki? I've only seen a short clip of it though, so I know it exists.
Dead space was like resident evil 4 in space. Or if Resident Evil 4, Doom 3 and System Shock 2 had a threesome together.
Imagine if Dead Space had a similar perspective that the old Resident Evils had, or even if we actually looked through the eyes of Issac all the time (most of the time, anyway). It'd sure give a different perspective on the game. And a first-person view would've probably made things scarier, since they'd be all up in your face.
Well, what kind of camera would you have done in a close combat horror game based in a spaceship?
Something that didn't feel quite so awkward maybe?
Something that didn't feel quite so awkward maybe?
The way I like my camera in all games is inside the head; that way your guns are sure to hit if you get your crosshairs on them; unlike the shoulder cam view; where you have to aim at least slightly to the left or right to even scratch whoever you're shooting at :v:
