[sp]Oh lordy, one of the youtube comments: "This song scares me so much that I'll have to sleep with a Chuck Norris teddy bear tonight."[/sp]
Silent Hill music beats all other horror game music. The sounds are like made to make you feel as uncomfortable as possible.
And the best part? [sp]You never find out what made those noises.[/sp]
Well, you eventually find out many years later what made the second screech. It was [sp] a zombie horde[/sp]. But in all seriousness, the first of those noises I heard was in that room on Xen with the spiral stone pathways suspended above a dark void, implying the sounds came from below. Whatever was down there, I don't think it was friendly. Maybe it was the screechings of some sort of young creature eager for fresh meat?
Dunno if this has been posted yet but this cheap trick got me good.
The librarians from Metro 2033 never scared me. Maybe because I had the heavy shotgun, which I could use to kill them easily.
yeah I forgot my shotgun during that part mostly it scared me only for a little while until i just started running through the level.

I would never have guessed. And yet, we have this, which sounds like a jazz song and a drug-infused prog song playing at the same time: Edit: Oh god wtf... That really...odd voice at 0:52 is apparently saying "Come back. You can't escape, come back." Beats Eternal Darkness by a mile. Worst part is that it's not a result of insanity, it's a real place (in the game, I mean) - the land of souls being devoured by the bottom-feeders of the underworld. And one of two of the main protagonists IS one of these creatures - and he's the one portrayed as the good guy! And, sort of unrelated, but holy hell I just found out that the entire Legacy of Kain series is also on PC, and I've never seen it anywhere as such.

The "Oracle Turret" from Portal 2 kinda creeped me out. but once I completed the game, It made sense and wasn't creepy any more.
The first controller you see in Shadow of Chernobyl, In that long, dark hallway.. Eugh.
The first controller you see in Shadow of Chernobyl, In that long, dark hallway.. Eugh.
It's a long, dark hallway underground no less, already filled with military guys that want to kill you. I was super stoned when I played SoC for the first time, got to there and was shitfuckingly frightened so I just turned off my monitor and hoped the bad thing would go away- it did, when I died. :v: Once in Oblivion, when my game was being all glitchy, I walked out of the Great Hall in Bruma (after the endgame) and there was randomly a pair of zombie guards and the King of Miscarand (don't remember if that's what the place is called) that aggro'd me right away. Not the most terrifying thing but I was not expecting it at all.
The first controller you see in Shadow of Chernobyl, In that long, dark hallway.. Eugh.
The tunnel controller in CoP was fucking terrifying when you first enter because it fucking yells at you in your mind to leave. EDIT: -snip- Bad example can't fucking find a video of it actually talking that doesn't have shitty music.
I really only think the ending of Penumbra Overture was really scary. That long hallway, and the only way to go is towards the figure at the end of the hallway. Scary shit, man. Long hallways fuck me up.
