I was just walking down the hallway, dum-dee dum-dee dum, when a fucking river of water opens up and suddenly I'm knee deep in what I can only hope is gatorade. Then a man with syringes where his fingers should be, hopefully not AIDS man, grows to enormous size and starts trying to kill me. Great. Then there's the little things, like in the same game, where you're in Scarecrow's lair, looking up against the glass, and an insane patient presses up against the glass screaming, and also in croc's lair, when croc breaks through a gate to charge at you, accompanied by scary music. Oh, and also when I was going for the Zombie Chopper achievement in ravenholm, where you have to use only the gravity gun throughout ravenholm. The fast zombies were my bane the whole time.

I made a point of not playing any games that even looked scary when I was a kid (and still today, I can't stand being scared), but what always got me were the logos at the beginning, usually before an intro movie. Some of them are so sudden, and combined with a completely black background, and loud music, and it's fullscreen, they really freaked me out. There's actually an entire website dedicated to these logos, and TVTropes has a page for them, it turns out I'm not alone!
