No, they said depending on how the game sells they might make some free DLC.
The game will definitely have paid DLC, but we may get some goodies like arenas, or Rain.

The only 3-D MK with more characters than this was Armageddon, and that was pretty rubbish.
This new one will have around 30 characters after their done with all their DLC.
I don't mind paying for some characters.
and as for the lack of characters comment, I'd rather have a decent amount of good characters than a shit ton of meh ones (SSFIV+AE)
I don't mind paying since characters on this actually take a lot of work to get in properly and balanced, more than you would expect. Although obviously they've ripped models straight from MK vs DC.

The reason there are less characters, is because they've been making 100% sure that everything flows perfectly, and no characters are more powerful than any others.
It's a fragile system, the more variables, the more chance of something fucking up.

Actually besides, Trilogy and Armageddon, This has the most Characters in a MK Roster out of the rest of the games.

UMK3 had 22. This has 27.
Of course Trilogy and Armageddon had more, as they were more of anthologies.

If it's Chameleon, then it means that the MK team gave him a redesign for this game. But they only seem to have redesigned playable characters in this game; leaving unplayable/cutscene-only characters with models from older installments because they aren't terribly important. And since Chameleon was essentially the [i]first[/i] character to be verified as not coming back for MK9 as playable...
