Most I got was a 27% and I use Sub-Zero. Eh, I need more practice.

What do you have to do exactly to gain mastery of a character? I'd like to gain this achievement for at least one character.

Reptile is pretty great. Back, Back, Low Punch Back, Back, Low Kick Uppercut Instant 22% damage Also invisible Fatalities.

So what's the fighting system like? Because like, in Tekken (then only fighting game series I've played) you pretty much HAVE to remember the combos if you want to be effective at all. Is this more spammy, or more pulling off combos?

There are special moves that are really helpful, but I've seen people win without them. It's a mix of both, it really depends on how good your opponent is. If he's good, or really good, you'll need to use special moves pretty heavily, but if he's average or bad, you can probably get away with not using them.

But they're not very long. You need to chain them up with specials, really.

My favourite character is Kabal. He can rack together huge combos easily, but they are not unstoppable/overpowered. Punch punch knee in the balls. And repeat.
