Oh god this game is tearing my moral apart, I don't see any progress in my abilities
I want to play Shang Tsung or Quan Chi, either sorcerer, but I have no idea how to play them. Not combo wise, but in general.
Anyone got some good stuff for Smoke, all I learned that is decent is (Xbox controller)
X,X,Smoke cloud, jump kick, teleport.
It's not like smoke has specials for combo in the first place.

if you're stuck for combos go to somewhere like [url]http://shoryuken.com/[/url] or [url]http://www.eventhubs.com/[/url] and search for your character name, there'll generally be a video or two posted up. or just head to youtube but you'll have to sort through a lot of trash exhibition vids that have no application in real matches.

One cheap combo I like as Smoke is that smoke ball move and then, as he comes down, circle circle.

No seriously, the hard part with smoke bomb is to actually land it, considering most people will understand how it works and block it.
It's an amazing way to prevent someone on the ground to do anything else than block or stay low though.

Just pulled out a 34% combo no-xray mid screen without using the same attack twice with smoke in practice mode.
Now the idea is to actually use it in a fight.
Also learn to not waste meter scrubs.

Actually yes, a character is defined by their ability to chain really nice combos and deal a lot of damage. What else would their worth be gauged by?

Scorpion's mask doesn't really fit him and both Scorpion and Sub-Zero have some ridiculous black things that annoyingly wave around during battle.
And also the fact that the Lin Kuei did not actually kill any of the Shirai Ryu, since it was Quan Chi's plan.

'long combos' is different from 'can deal a lot of damage' (that's like saying zangief can do incredible combos). you have to consider their zoning ability, how well they can get in, health levels, what kind of tools they have, walking speed, assist potential (in some games), how useful their x-ray/super/ultra/whatever is, the list goes on. damage is of course very important for a character but it's definitely not the only consideration.
example: hulk from MvC3. does a shitload of damage and has combos that can kill a character from 100%, but he's considered fairly low tier because he is slow as fuck and has a great deal of difficulty getting in.

I'm even doing the strategy where you jump behind him and uppercut every time he does an attack, but that stupid hammer hits about 2 feet behind him.
