• Game UK - Why these guys are ruining your consumer experience on Steam in the UK.

Shady bastards. I haven't bought anything from Game for a while though, and if I do it's usually some old cheap game that's an impulse buy. That said, I also only tend to buy from Steam if there's a sale on. I tend to use Amazon for buying games.
I hate how game shops marginalize PC games to just Sims, World of Warcraft, and decade old Diablo collection. So this game shop, Game, is trying to stop Steam from selling PC games that they won't even sell in their own shops? That's fucking dumb. If you're not even going to sell PC games, why are you bothered by a PC game distributor?
Oh they definitely sell big new releases in their actual shops, Which stick around for about a month (Just in time for the Steam embargo...) before being replaced entirely with something else new and the leftover copies moved to the A-Z section (One shelf unit for all of them, upper half stacked on top of each other randomly, bottom half actual A-Z which you look through several times without finding what you're looking for ever)... until they run out and are never restocked.

Some of the games they have never seem to be bought either, like they've actually been there for years. Maybe it's because I see the same stock at most outlets.
All the Game stores in Australia in my experience seem to be doing really poorly customer wise, perhaps I'm entering during the worst possible hours for them however I never see more than 2 costumers at a time (Most of the time it is empty). They usually have 3 employees standing around with nothing to do, compared to EB almost always being packed when I go in. I don't know how they survive to be honest, this isn't just a single store I'm talking about either. If they're really pulling this shit I won't mind if they go under over here.
Holy shit, so that's why I couldn't pre-order Skyrim during those sales.
At first, I thought it was me, personally, who couldn't pre-order the game. Now I know there are people in stuffy suits behind this.
I went into a Game store last week, in their PC section they had Brink on the 2 for £20 offer. Above it they had Black Ops and The Sims 3 selling for £40 EACH. Furthermore half the allocated PC section space was taken up by a PREORDER MW3 sign then another quarter taken up with a WoW display. I'd say I wouldn't buy anything from Game till this all stops but I don't think I've ever bought anything from there.
Great now they've fucking stopped the pre-orders for Augmented Edition so I have to deal with either the normal retail version or digital.
I was wondering why I couldn't pre-order Skyrim, that's the last time I buy anything from Game. Gamestation was always cheaper and had much better service anyway, they just don't usually have a large selection of PC games.
I updated the OP to reflect that information just to clear a few misconceptions.
Right I'm willing to boycott retailers if it gets enough support.
Minor update I suppose, I was grabbing links to the OP and it appears the Space Marine steam page (http://store.steampowered.com/app/55150)WAS available to us in the UK. However what's funny is all the prices are in USD :v:

[editline]24th August 2011[/editline] As is Saints Row the Third now. They've disappeared already. Look at my first screenshot though, that's me using my account on the Steam page.
You must have set steam to US mode without realising.
I can't get to Space Marine either and I'm in the Netherlands. :v:
You must have set steam to US mode without realising.
Apart from I didn't do anything. Someone messaged me on Steam that they were suddenly showing up and I went to check it out and there they were :v:
Haven't bought anything in Game for about 6 years.
If I won't be able to preorder skyrim around october time I'm going to be pissed.
If I won't be able to preorder skyrim around october time I'm going to be pissed.
christ just buy it retail, you redeem it on steam anyway http://www.play.com/Games/PC/4-/18028090/The-Elder-Scrolls-V-Skyrim/Product.html?searchtype=allproducts&searchsource=0&searchstring=skyrim&urlrefer=search
There where a few more. Hunted The Demons Forge Singularity (I think this was one, I remembered that you could get it everywhere on Steam but the UK couldn't) What I hate is that GAME is holding some publishers to ransom by threatening to remove those publishers CONSOLE games if they don't comply with the STEAM embargo. So if you are going to boycott GAME and their website, you need to do it for console games too. I'm not going to boycott GAME but only because I haven't used them in over three years after they quite frankly they gave up on PC gaming, and I don't expect to pay for FULL PRICE console/PC games 3 years after they were released. *EDIT* Just something else I remembered, I have a friend who used to work at GAME, he told me if you can get an employee to type in an APOSTROPHE into any of the fields when they register you in store, due to the age of the system, the backoffice server will crash and will take at least a day or two to fix. So remember Baba O'Reilly wants a GAME Loyalty Card!

I refreshed the page which was purely the store page link a bit after and I got the unavailable error again.
200 guests viewing?
200 guests viewing?
Could be all the GAME executives...
It's a possibility but unlikely. This is only if you viewed the store in your web browser and not the steam client.
Maybe you're right though. I'm just saying.
Poor UK :(
This must have got posted on reddit or digg or something. One of you many guests mind signing up and telling us where you all came from?
PCGamer.com http://www.pcgamer.com/2011/08/24/space-marine-disappears-from-uk-steam-store-demo-out-now/
