Game UK - Why these guys are ruining your consumer experience on Steam in the UK.

Is rather a pain in the arse, I don't feel the need these days for physical copies of games and find steam the best way to get my games on pc.
This is why I couldn't per-purchase skyrim? Well fuck you very much Game.
Seriously with the ease you can get games in other ways these days if I want to buy the game on Steam where it's nice and easy fucking let me.
Now you're saying I have waste my time and petrol money driving all the way to town if I want to play when it comes out? This is a joke.
You know you can pre-order it from GAME online right? They post it out couple of days before release day so you get it either before or on the release day, I've pre-ordered a few games from them before and never had any problems.
On topic though GAME are shooting themselves in the foot with this, everyone who knows and aren't happy will just find their games elsewhere, making it a lose-lose situation for GAME. Also their range of PC games isn't very good at all :s

If you must preorder a PC game, preorder it from HMV :v:. They actually manage to stock a decent amount of PC games (at least up here in Newcastle they do).

Thanks :) That'll come in handy for my fiancé, he's been after a good range of PC games recently and GAME's lack of stock has been driving him batty.
Updated OP to include Darksiders (credit - Triprotic)
Game is a piece of shit. I just read about the Brink issues. Is this why there was hardly anyone playing throughout the first week?
Regarding the THQ (exclusive or none) fiasco, I'd rather THQ turned round and told them to fuckoff and just rimmed Steam.

Haha good?
I'm surprised how many of you still buy and pre-order games from shops. This isn't a dig at anyone of course; I understand everyone has different preferences and situations, but I find purchasing online from a retailer is so much more convenient and easier on the wallet.
PC Games.

Steam does have their nice sales tough where I sometimes buy a game I have wanted but never been arsed because of the price.
In the future I will probably buy my games from trusted sites with good critics such as G2PLAY or Ultimatum games for a cd-key which can be activated on Steam.
to be fair, it isnt the valve fanboy inside me thats causing my anger towards game at a time like this, its because it means more effort for me...
HOW DARE YOU GAME, DONT YOU KNOW GAMERS AT ALL?
I'm just sticking to Steam and Amazon for all of my game needs. GAME have totally lose any faith I had in them.

It's worse than it seems even, they list items they USED to have listings and stock for, it ends up inflating the actual number so while it may seem like there's 1000, it's probably more in the number of 150, everything else they don't have in stock and never will.
SPESSMAHREENZ isn't showing up for me on steam still.
Actually I'm not too shocked with Skyrim being nerfed by GAME UK because I want a physical copy like all the other Elder Scrolls games as they are often too large to download for me however here's the thing if they let you preorder at least you can preload it in preparation for it's release meaning that I don't have to waste time downloading it on the day of release and thats what I disagree with.
Well it seems for this sort of thing the office of fair trading takes control and not Ofcom. Time to see if I can find exactly what's needed to file a complaint!
I'm sorry if I come off as dumb, but I don't understand this. What kind of legal leverage does Game have on any publisher? My understand is that Game would choose to not sell a certain publishers game if that certain publisher also had it available on steam. Who gives a fuck if some little asshole company in the UK wants to be the exclusive seller of big titles.
Again, how do they have any leverage?

As far as I am aware they are basically saying "if you sell those games on steam we will not sell your games in our store", its black mail.

They're not a small company. They're the biggest games retailer in the UK that have basically since bought out most competition.
Back in the 90's you had at least three game retailers. EB Games, Gamestation and Game. Early on Game went and bought out EB Games replacing all their stores with Games. A few years ago Game did the same thing with Gamestation but figured they'd keep the brand around for a while as it was a store that people liked.
Most towns have at least two - three Games' in them. Newcastle where I live has 4 Games and a Gamestation (all of them within ten - fifteen minutes walking distance). They effectively have a monopoly in the UK and they're probably a tad scared that they're going to lose that.
Their only competition in the UK is HMV (which is primarily a music store but do stock plenty of games) and the supermarkets (but these sell more generic games or often have Games in them to control their stock).
In the North we have a store called Grainger Games ( Wikipedia / Store Website ). However these guys are a bit more specialised in second hand selling than they are general games. Over time this has changed somewhat but they also tend to send Console games as a result of PC CD keys having a one time use as well.
CeX is a general electronic entertainment store which mostly deals in second hand things (but they do get the occasional new item in).

Wasn't aware. I guess the only thing you can say is that's pretty shitty. Hard blame anyone but Game's greed, as I don't think I could blame any of the involved publishers for not wanting to lose apparently a large chunk of profits.
go go capitalism!
I discovered this myself when trying to purchase RF: Armageddon, It was delayed by a month before you could buy it on steam and seriously it was a massive joke that you couldn't buy it right away. I went to the nearest Game store at the time to find the PC version of the game to be £34.99 and I refused to pay that much and literally 2 days later it came on steam for £29.99 with a 33% discount. So I managed to get it for ~£20 but the biggest question is that Steam isn't known for it's cheap titles... why is it's un-discounted price cheaper than Games?
GAME in store is generally a bit expensive, they're usually cheaper to order online from and have it delivered to your door. I had this problem when I pre-ordered the 3DS, in store they were showing the price at £230 then I saw it drop online to £190. I went and asked the staff and they didn't have a clue, so I said to them "so I should cancel my pre-order here, get my money back and re pre-order it from your online store?" The staff were speechless, so I canceled my pre-order, pre-ordered it online and sent in a complaint.
Turns out each of the different GAME stores can price things however they like depending on how well their doing and where they are, I've seen games in one store at radically different prices to their other stores, its just... weird o.o
I'm going to GAMEfest at the NEC next month, shall I wear a cardboard sign saying "STOP HATING ON STEAM" or something

Huh.
Anyway, if this continues, it'll be ending in court/fisticuffs/another quake 3 duel. Is it even legal? It does not seem to be.

They really need to step their game up (no pun intended) if they want to win over PC gamers support.
I'm sure other UKunts will chip me on in this when I say that every store I've been too has a tiny section in the corner selling a mixture of shovelware and gems, not sorted, gathering dust. The fact that they have the balls to say Steam is stealing customers and moan at PC gamers for buying from sites such as Amazon just puzzles me. Is it our fault for moving away from retail stores causing lack of support or theirs for starting it in the first place?
Nowdays the only time I visit game is to catch up on oldwork mates and pick up console shit for presents and such (fuck delivery charges when I can just walk 2 mile)
Fuck Game, why do they care about PC Gaming now.
They're not even improving anything, just making PC Gamers more pissed at them.
I suggest anyone who wants to preorder these games get their ass on a VPN and do it. Or ask a friend to gift them the game and pay them, whatever works for you people.
Or get the best of both worlds, order it on Amazon and save like, £10.
