Hold on, I'll get some screenies soon. Portugal is getting their ass handed to them by Britain right now. Not sure whether I should intervene or not.

Unless youve got a certain alliance in Britain, yes. You'll be hard pressed to ever get those provinces back as britains Navy is a motherfucking beast.

I jumped to Burgundy's aid in their war against the English, and managed to form an alliance with Portugal. after taking all their continental areas and Ireland, then defeating their 60,000+ soldier army in Calais with the help of both Burgundy and Portugal, I managed to demand peace, 2 regions and 1 of Portugal's conquered regions was given back. A fairly successful war, I must say, because:
1) I managed to almost unite the entire peninsula
2) My relations with Sweden, Burgundy and Portugal are fairly set
3) We neutered France, who took extreme losses in this three-way war (before my men managed to get involved in France)
4) We ruined England's economy for now.
In the end, not a total conquest, but a victory nevertheless. Feels good.
EDIT: Also, I conquered Granada before all this, because why the hell not? Holy war and bam! Too bad my king died shortly afterwards and I spent 9 years dicking around while waiting for my 7 year-old heir to assume control.
And I can now build a monument in honour of [royal council]. Lol'd at that.
Daaaamn the DW world map is sexy, I'm going to have to buy that as soon as I'm done with my current game
The game went absolutely brilliantly until I foolishly colonized the cap Verde islands and Canary islands. Then my economy plummeted.
How the hell did I even go from 100 yearly income to -20, this doesn't make sense.
COLONIES ARE REALLY FUCKING EXPENSIVE
Make a nest egg and focus on one colony at a time.
Stick with the Canary Isles first.
[editline]28th February 2011[/editline]
Worth of noting when colonies are on the agenda.
Never let a colonial Portugal see you in SA, THEY WILL FUCK UP EVEN THE MOST POWERFUL NAVAL EMPIRE, WHAT THE HELL 80 CARAVELS WHAT
And that's when you cede your colonies, you sit the fuck still, and go colonise the other half of the world.

The way I initially learned was through a series of Youtube videos because the tutorials always crashed on me

Well, I've started with Hungary and I'm hoping to be a bit more focused this time - although the difficulty level is shown to be higher than France I think it'll actually be easier since I won't have to be as focused on naval combat and colonization. Also, that series of youtube videos is really helpful :unsmith:

Yeah, I remember in my early days, whenever I played a colonial power, I made it my goal to colonize the entire coast of the new world so that I'll have it all to myself. I always sent new colonists to uncolonized regions whenever they were available, this always put a huge dent in my economy, no matter how good it was, it was always crippled. The only thing I thought to myself was "I can't let those other Europeans colonize my beautiful lands", but the thing is, in 1450 nobody is going to compete with you if all you're trying to do is colonize, so you should chill out, take it slow, don't ever let your economy suffer too much because of your colonies.

Yes. The Glorious Prussian Kingdom is born from the annoyingly weak Teutonic Knights, several dozen provinces stronger than it normally is at it's founding. We are strong and now is our time!
Tell me about it, the Teutonic's and extremely weak starting out due to their sliders and their government and provinces.

Here is my papal states game, this is my attempt to try to declare the "Kingdom of God" as fast as possible, as you can see, my infamy is skyrocketing.
[editline]28th February 2011[/editline]
Oh, andd why is all my trading chances 1%? I cant trade at all, even when my infamy was like, 10.
[editline]28th February 2011[/editline]
Ah, and even trying to make a single "big ship" would drain my treasury to zero, so I just got rid of my entire navy.

Just waiting for them to stop their wars, and then I'll vassal them. I'll try to do the same with Aragon.
How long does it take until colonies become profitable?.

Generally as soon as they hit province status they start turning a profit. Make sure you have enough big ships to rake in 100% tariffs though.
As soon a colony hits 1000 population it stops draining money from your colonization slider and from that point on the more improvements the better

I'm a research monster in my game, I got 30 levels of trade in 25 years and now I have the Quest for the New World
Also Vatican/Rome is Sunni ;p

Rome seems to fall to either Muslim or rogue Italian states almost all the time, they just crash at the HRE's place until they can move back in.
I wish you can just force a vassal to be annexed by your country with a 25% Chance of annexing peacefully 50% chance of annexing with the revolt risk and the othet 25% being that it declares independance but you gain all their provinces as a conquest casus belli.
It's annoying as fuck to have to keep spamming Demand annexation with the king just going "LOL NOPE!", Fucksakes I took you down entirely, I let your country live, now be annexed by my country.
Is there any particular reason my game now lags a little at the end of every day?
Victoria is superior! :D
I want to love starting off as any of the native american nations, but absolutely no technology really makes it pointless adding them to the game even if they want to be historically accurate. Small military management just kills the whole "we outnumbered the spanish and nearly raped them" part.

Use the Whole World Mod, which makes all nations a viable option.

As Ireland I was able to subjugate Britain, and colonize all of the east coast of North America.
This was just step 1 in painting the world green.
Nice, how did you manage to do all that in 48 years?
Mostly luck and a bit of cheating, however the only thing I cheated were colonists, and I only cheated them to make up for indian attacks, as I had no armies and I was getting decimated by the Huron when I was still limited to Northern Canada.
Even then it was extremely tough, I had to ally with literally every nation West of Italy and The Hansa. Only then I was able to defeat britain.
And the colonies are collapsing from pirates and rebellion.
I've learnt something, unless you are a massive military force never become the holy roman emperor, you're obligated to help small countries take on countries triple their size or everyone in Europe hates you and I only wanted to be Emperor so I could destroy Utretcht and Freisland to become the Netherlands and now I'm juggling paying off Portugal so they don't rape my colonies, Spain so they don't change the direction of their unstoppable warpath through Europe, Britain so they don't destroy my navy and now topped onto all of that is the fact that all of Centeral Europe is out for my body it seems like everyone in the world hates the Dutch :saddowns:

Yeah but as the HRE you're supposed to get massive forcelimit and manpower boosts, and some financial aid as well. You should use the great army you can easily build plus the many wars you will find yourself in and always make sure that you get something out of those wars, be it prestige, gold, or maybe even some territories if you can snag some valuable ones. Don't forget to pass laws that will increase the power of the emperor and such, for example one of the laws you can pass will help your stability, and another will help your prestige.

Actually, the WWM doesn't make everyone viable, the indians are still very weak, there is just more indians.
Whoever plays eastern tales, why the fuck does a siege in 1955 take more then a year, I'm pretty sure it didn't take 25 years to take over poland as the germans.
I couldn't figure this game out at all, even with the tutorials. It's either REBELS everywhere, or something along the lines of half of europe declaring war on me. Took me 400 years as France to conquer france and northern italy >.>
You're rushing and Infamy is building up faster than you can say "Down with the aristocracy"
Hey guys I'm planning on getting this game, and I was wondering if it was a good idea to start the game playing as The Knights.
