Erhhh, kind of. They sort of declared war on a lot of people who didn't deserve it, treated any outsiders like shit, and all kept it under the guise of order and cooperation.
That said, they were fairly civilized, and provided a better standard of living (...sometimes) for the people it cared for (which were relatively few)
Better then the Greeks, by far.
While the Romans offered a chance at citizenship to anyone, the only way to be a citizen in Athens or Sparta was to have two Athenian/Spartan parents (they thought marrying someone from another city would poison the otherwise pure blood.) The Romans didn't really give a shit about local religions, and easily adapted to at least tolerate foreign customs (they believed the Jews worshiped Jupiter under another name, for example.) They had a system where you had to worship the Roman pantheon out of civic duty, while they personally couldn't care less who you worshiped personally.
They're considered the single most important empire in the history of the world for a reason.
I consider them the closest to a unified secular world empire we've ever had, which is a shame because that could have developed into something pretty amazing given time and technology.
The tech in AirotciV is scary fucked up. I like how it's realistically slow progression in the beginning, but that also means battles are slow and it takes forever to get anything done.
Airotciv has no music? Bah!
Oh it was default 0 volume.
It also crashes whenever anything happens apparently, I think I'll wait.

This is the devs forum for the mod, in the CTD thread he said that it is something with DW itself so I guess its paradox's problem for now?

But sadly, I'll be waiting too :(
After I learned about Divine Wind having cascading alliances shenanigans I feel discouraged from getting it now.
After I learned about Divine Wind having cascading alliances shenanigans I feel discouraged from getting it now.
When you think logically, it's all about friendship. Many times in history there were great alliances through secondary allies e.g. 30 years war. But early on there should be a limit of allies at the start of a war.
I saw some LPs and screenshots of this game, I found out that people use skins to enhance the world map. Make the map more detailed and so on, does anybody know where I can get some of those?
Check the EU3 modding section of the Paradox forums, they've got a topic there that is supposed to be a master list of mods and they've got a bunch of graphical ones there among others

Don't be, often it amounts to dick waving around the continent until 1 guy gets his army slammed HARD and then every one sues for peace.

God damn it how do I get Airotciv to stop crashing? I tried like 10 times now to start as anybody in 5AD.
Always crash to desktop with "Airotciv stopped responding". :frown:
What is Airotciv anyway? Is it Eastern Tales on Divine Wind, and if so, what is it?
Airotciv is Eastern Tales for DW, yeah, it is largely the same as the previous version except it been updated with the new DW mechanics and the new world map. There are more changes like other mods being added and a few history changes too

I'm not exactly clear what solved the issue for me, apparently upon changing things in the game allowing it to crash once and then restarting should make it work, apparently it's caused by DW being unstable.
Sharpile started this thread about it actually http://air.000space.com/modules.php?name=Forums&file=viewtopic&t=71

Doesn't help for me. Anything makes it crash. Can't even start a game. It's totally unplayable.
First time I got past adapting history without a crash was by selecting a nation from the standard EU3 timeframe, might have been blind luck but you could try that?
Oh and I also set lucky nations: none every time so that might also have contributed if he says it is by small changes

I'll try tomorrow and tell you what happens.
Being Holy Roman Emperor is pretty lame when you get given random provinces in Europe. Some of these have nobody as their core owner, and since no one will buy a province they don't have a core on, you're forced to take the prestige and infamy hits. What the fuck, man :saddowns:

MAN UP, USE THE PROVINCES TO CONQUER ALL WHO STAND IN YOUR WAY, THIS IS YOUR TIME AND IT WILL LAST FOR A MILLENIA.
Doooo eeeeeet
I need some serious help, I'm minding my own business in my Portugal game and I go to check my technology tab after I saw I've been getting instant tech advancements from tech lvl 14 to 17 in a single month.
To my horrifying astonishment, it's at like 5673496/4000. :gonk:
Help? I don't want super bugged tech, oh god. Also I wasn't using cheats or anything, the money I had into it is about 30 ducats or so.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Never mind fixed the problem, had to edit the savegame, thank god.
I'm not entirely sure if this is the best way, so make a backup first.
Then type "invest tech_X <amount of cash>". Make the cash value negative, eg "invest land_tech -50000". Don't do to large numbers or the game will mess up even more. Slowly remove the money until it's on a normal level.

Anyone know of any mods for Divine Wind that remove all the wasteland and replace it with colonizable provinces? I want my colonial empires to be pretty :saddowns:
Should I go for this or Hearts of Iron 2?
Should I go for this or Hearts of Iron 2?
You should get both, but it depends what you're into. If you want everything focused on WW2-Cold War then you probably should get HOI2. On the other hand, EUIII has mods that enable you to play during that time, but I don't know what you prefer.
Alright, so I will ask a laaame question, but it's still needed.
Am a huge CIV fan, but I was decived by Civ5, should I get my hopes up for EU3?

I'm not sure if I'm misreading your question, but EU3 is completely different from Civilization.
Does Airotciv work with the 5.1 beta patches?
Does Airotciv work with the 5.1 beta patches?
Not yet, but AirotciV is expecting an update near the end of march, which is very close right now.
So, is anyone else's AirotciVs crashes now when you try a new game? I really REALLY want to play after i reinstalled it on new hard drive. And this is a bump for an awesome game.
Yea AirotciV doesn't work very well but apparently that will be fixed by next patch
