Any special expansion pack that I should be aware of?
Any special expansion pack that I should be aware of?
Yes, it's highly recommended you get EUIII Complete from Steam then get Heir to the Throne, and Divine Wind from there too, and then you're all set.
Thanks for the advice. Have a  I just bought the complete pack.
I wish I had Divine Wind, but I don't have the 20$ for it.
I just saw the awesome deal on Steam. Is this game hard to get into compared to HoI2? It's just that I don't want to spend tons of hours figuring out the game.
HOI is far more complex than EU3. EU3's much easier, but also has far more glitches, including the stupidity of dice rolls that I mentioned. Dice rolls never land in your favour in EU3. It's basically an AI-boosting tool. It may be easier on the whole, but 20,000 AI troops with no general usually beat your army of 100,000 with a skilled general, so you'll have to get used to that.
Any advice for a beginner?
Portugal is a easy country, no one is a real threat to you except your Spanish friends to the East and you're in a great position to start a early colonization and trade depending on which path you choose.
What's a decent country to start with? Well I can't play right until tomrrow. Might read some guides then.

The AI always gets its ass kicked whenever I draw them into battle.

Also, what majority type of troops do you use, and what do the AI usually use?

No clue what tech they are. It seems to only happen when fighting European nations. For example, 5,000 of my Redcoats can wipe out 20,000 Mughals, but 5,000 French can slaughter 40,000 Redcoats.

There's also terrain modifiers you have to keep in mind as well. Kind of strange how you're getting your ass whooped by units that are way weaker than yours.
What about discipline and morale? Kind of strange how you're getting your ass whooped by units that are way weaker than yours.
And like I said, they dominate inferior-teched troops, but anything semi-modern kicks their asses.

You think that the european nations cheat but the others don't?

They get access to nothing but high-ranked, high-skilled generals, whereas you're stuck with puny weaklings, since your 'tradition' never gets too high. Sliders? How does that affect anything?

Wow I just had to go through 14 years of having a regency council because my heir was born the same year the lord died, was quite the nightmare

It always seems to be that whoever outnumbers the other army both incurs fewer losses and kills more of the enemy more quickly, regardless of whether it's me or the AI. Terrain and technological level do play a big role though.
I wish Military alliances wouldn't be broken because you decline a call to war, England requested a call to arms in my game before I accidentally denied in their stupid war against Burgundy.
I wish Military alliances wouldn't be broken because you decline a call to war, England requested a call to arms in my game before I accidentally denied in their stupid war against Burgundy.
Yeah, it does get annoying, "Hey, instead of actually participating in the war and letting all my men die for you, Have some ducats so I can still be your ally!" could be a better alternative.
I find it more annoying when an ally wants you to aid in a war against someone waaaaay too far away and when I cancel because I couldn't help anyway its like "lol we aren't friends"
I find it more annoying when an ally wants you to aid in a war against someone waaaaay too far away and when I cancel because I couldn't help anyway its like "lol we aren't friends"
If it's very far away then all you really need to do is go to war also, Usually you get a white peace without doing shit. What I hate is when your friends with France and you're Munster (1 Province of Ireland.) and he goes to war with England.

It always fucking pissed me off when you never actually KILLED an enemy army - you just killed PART of them and the leftovers go to another territory. You attack them again and the same thing happens every time. Could never colonize Spain when I was France because they kept marching off to my mainland, and when one of my homeland defense troops went up to kill them, they lost the battle and besieged ANOTHER one of my territories, and my HD army had to follow them around for hours before they finally got fully killed off.
Notice all the trade centers? :downs:
I end up spending all of my income on technology and I keep a tiny army.
Did anyone here try the MMU mod? I used to play vanilla EUIII and then added mods that made it look better like WWM and this mod that made the game last until the end of WWI and added a whole bunch of nations, events, decisions, regions, etc. And then I tried MMU, I just can't go back to any of these mods or the vanilla game, they're just too... easy.
my game looks nicer than your game: :smug:
