The game is unbearable if you have to fight. The combat is just so bad, dice rolls destroying your armies. The game would be near godlike if it followed Hearts of Iron's combat system.
Steam doesn't work with EUIII mods :smith:
Yes it does, use the launcher in your \common\europa universalis iii folder
I have the For the Glory one, which I think is better. This one looks like they kind of combined hearts of iron and europa for this one

The combat system is pretty bad. HoI combat wouldn't make sense though. Armies at this time just weren't that big.
Are there any guaranteed methods for boosting your economy? I'm able to keep myself afloat but I want more yearly income but I only have access to a single center of trade (5 merchants for 223 ducats) and I'm kinda unsure of what to do
Also I'm playing Eastern Tales and it's 255AD right if that's influencing anything

Poor Rome is full of rebellions and keeps losing land to the Gauls :(
Pour money into technology and try not to keep a bizarre army & navy that isn't past your forcelimit.

I mean in whole world it just crashes when I put it to try and play :smith:

What technology should I focus on exactly? Production? Or all equally?

Not looking so good for them though lol

Focus on Government and Production tech, these are the most efficient ones for improving your economy. Also use country ideas and shift your domestic sliders around every once in a while. (Centralization, Plutocracy, etc)

A small HoI3 battle often ranges around 6000 combatants... EUIII, I'm fighting scotland as england and they're constantly pulling about 12,000 soldiers for the army.

A small battle. Most battles can easily go up above 20,000, which could easily be larger than the standing army of many nations at this time. What they really need is a reserves system, like in Victoria II. Considering that serfs and the like were mobilized into militia when a nation went to war, a feature like that would be nice.
I'd be happy to accept a simplified HoI system, as long as they get rid of dice and make battles a tad more predictable, I don't feel comfortable fighting unless I have 4 times the amount of soldiers the enemy has.

Yeah, 12,000 is a poor man's army. Late game(or sometimes early game as Ming), it's all about them megastacks of 100K-150k+ troops. And depending on your population, sliders, ideologies, and income, you can have multiple stacks of these.
I'm still in early game but yeah, Evilan has it right. This game's battle rivals those of HoI3. 1415 and I'm trying to fight off Scotland with a 23k stack.
Portugal helped take over some provinces, so I made peace to give me all the provinces but it gave the ones Portugal gained to them instead of me, so now half of Scotland is owned by Portugal. Any way to get them to piss off without having to declare war on em?
FUCK YEAH AZTECS

Bah, Divine Wind broke my 1488 Milan save. Paid that excessive amount for something that does barely anything and forces me to restart.
Ok so wait, kmathis, how did you expand so far with the Aztecs? For me, we never get any colonists or anything.
I just really have no idea how to play as any of the new world people.

True, but that's late game. Post-1720 a Hearts of Iron system would be okay, with a fair bit of editing. Before that though, it just doesn't make sense from a historical stand point.

Once they are out of the way you know what must be done.
Reverse-colonize Spain.

Did you really expect an expansion pack that changed the ENTIRE map to not break saves? Don't be silly.
Paradox Interactive has quite the reputation for breaking save games whenever a new expansion or patch is released. They even said themselves that it's guaranteed your old savegame will break anyways. :v:

I think that as with any country, you need to have the "quest for the new world" NI to be able to get colonists, you need 4 government techs for a NI and 7 trade tech I think to be able to choose QftNW, 9 government techs for the second NI if you already picked something. Usually it's very easy to get to tech 9 on all tech types before 1500, but for non-Europeans, ESPECIALLY new world or African countries, it's hard as FUCK. You get shit modifiers and stuff, like 10% research rate of Europeans. The best thing you can do to increase your tech is to westernize, for that I don't remember all the requirements, but I know that one of them is to have a European as a neighbor (so if someone colonizes near you - don't conquer them, it's better to be buddy-buddy with them). I'd also guess that a certain year must pass, and you must have good stability, some techs, and maybe a ruler with good stats.
