http://www.paradoxian.org/eu3wiki/Westernisation#Heir_to_the_Throne_and_Divine_Wind [editline]29th January 2011[/editline] OP needs to put this in the op somewhere, it's extremely helpful.
Is this game's combat hard? Like is it dependent on 1000s of variables like HoI's? Or is it dice rolls? Because if it is dice rolls thats pretty lame.
It's dice rolls (like all combat in every game ever) that are affected by a variety of factors.
It's dice rolls, which some people claim it sucks major ass but personally I have no deal with it. Still would prefer basic HoI3 combat though.
HoI 3 combat is wonky for me. I failed to push through France's defenses (Near Belgium mind you, I would not try to break through the Maginot line) with tens of thousands of men, tanks, aircraft and offshore bombardment. Yet I couldn't break through a measly command brigade.
I don't mind the dice rolls either, I had a naval battle that went on for 2 years where my side was outnumbered by galleys at least 3:1 but we had a decent admiral and managed to keep them at bay without losses
I bought it on Steam but it crashes on start-up :(
Wow I just had a 2167 day long siege, why does Japan not have a single fort less than level 7?
i cant stand playing any game based on the hoi3 engine, every time no matter what i get these grayed out provinces that are bugged and cant be interacted with every time, and it REALLY sucks because i LOVE these games
What do you mean, grayed out?
They wouldn't have the color of the country they belonged to. They would just be grey OR they would be the color of a different country, like a province in russia being blue.
Uh quick question for the OP or anyone else that plays Eastern Tales, is it normal for nearly everyone to be using level 7 forts in 300AD? I mean nearly everyone only has level 7 forts in all their provinces which seems just a little bit odd for the time
I bought it on Steam but it crashes on start-up :(
Where exactly does it crash at?
They wouldn't have the color of the country they belonged to. They would just be grey OR they would be the color of a different country, like a province in russia being blue.
Sounds like it's uninhabited land. Go colonize.
It would be nice if someone would stream this game while playing. I'd love to see how people use different tactics. Currently I'm watching a LP of EUIII.
Does anyone have a better download for Eastern Tales mod? The filefront download currently has an ETA of 2 days. [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] 4 days now. Just hit 1MB downloaded. [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] Oh holy shit I registered an account and it's now 4 mins left jesus christ.
Probably not the greatest idea to start my first game as Holland. Apparently they start out as the bitch of another country. I spent the first 25 years doing nothing while I waited for their king to die so I could break free of that shit. I eventually took over all the Dutch provinces before every goddamn country around declared war on me. That includes England. I ragequit at that point.

I also tried to stream but my connection doesn't allow me.
My manpower just went from 60k to 175k by building 5 conscription centers, and my forcelimits went from 20 to 65 Time to take over the world
Any advice on what I should invest my research at the beginning. I'm a bit confused with those sliders. Naturally I set my naval research at the lowest when I find myself at inner Europe.
Focus on Government and Production tech mainly.
And treasure? I always seem to run out of money pretty fast. I also read that stability is an important factor.

Naturally I set my naval research at the lowest when I find myself at inner Europe.
Don't do that. Your best bet is to focus ALL of your funds into one tech and prioritize only within one tech level. So put all your funds into government, then when that gets to the next level put it all into trade, and so on. Never neglect one type of tech, you may need it later on.
Thanks, that's quite a good advice. Also should I try to expand fast and create some armies instantly or wait until my economy is developed? It seems like you're being forced to expand because of the lack of ressources and manpower.

I had the good fortune of Burgundy annexing Hainaut, and then later when all hell broke loose in England, I managed to snag Leinster. Afterwards, when England was occupied with something else, I took a province from Brittany. Then I was able to start colonizing pretty early, due to my good trade abilities and naval tech.
By the way I have seen some pretty screenshots where the world map had a new nifty skins, after that I wanted to ask if someone knows a good mod which changes the world map.
I refuse to play this game if the combat consists of decades long skirmishes.
Longest skirmishes last for a month, and that's when there are tens of thousands of troops on both sides [editline]31st January 2011[/editline] though naval battles can last for the entire game
Land battles for me generally last a few days, same with naval battles. It's always siege battles that last for like years though.
