I only started learning redstone because of pistons. So far my only contraption I've made on my own (without copying from a YT vid or a picture) is a hidden door. But for whatever reason, my Minecraft doesn't have any information on 1.7.2, so I can't upgrade. Right now I'm messing around with the item dupe glitch.
im so creative

Here's a simple sand generator using the duplication bug:

Want to make 4x4 piston doors? What's that? Impossible you say? Wrong.

the reason I didn't actually make them is because wiring all that myself would probably take me a week
(I probably should have mentioned they all have to be sticky pistons but that should be pretty obvious
Why does it seem to take everyone approximately four hours to make something with redstone. Every time people post their creation they all "it took me 4 hours!". Is it a joke referring to the video, or is redstone hardcoded to take you four hours to create something meaningful :v:
It takes me a lot longer than 4 hours because I know nothing about redstone.
I swear this was working.

I made this self-repairing bridge and accidentally TNT'd it a couple of times while working on it as well. :saddowns:

added another trap, also shows the fix i did for the retractable floor.

oh man, minecraft deathrun
It is pretty clunky, but when you've experiemented a bit and you've found its little quirks it's not so bad.
Pistons however are full of dumb bugs, like the ones I put in this video -

I'm not quite sure why no one has pointed this out to you yet, but you are the only one I've seen complaining about these "bugs", AND that video shows one bug that has no affect on anyone's contraptions unless they actually involve breaking pistons, AND you posted that video at least 12 times now.

For me it's usually about 2 hours of mumbling "Why is redstone so difficult" to myself and 2 hours of actual wiring.
New video. Sorry the wiring looks like Father Redstone took a shit on a pile of stone but it works.

I've made a few things, and the bug that he shows in that video has annoyed me a couple times while building. Theres no need to use an aggressive tone towards a post that doesn't require it.

I can show you my 4x4 piston elevator. It's a highway to a complete mess and the only way to reset it is to replace the redstone in specific places

Notch, put this in the game now. It would make pistons so much easier.
My redstone torches burn out all the time :(

What are you doing with them? For 1-tick clocks use repeaters..
What are you doing with them? For 1-tick clocks use repeaters..
Mine randomly burn out for simple gates.
Does the dupe glitch still work? I built the machine but It's not working.
Kind of for this thread kind of not, is there any material other than obsidian that wond destroy with TNT?

Adjust the repeater going to the non sticky piston.

Bedrock?
Hey guys, how do I make my pistons stay open, and then use a torch/switch to turn them off/on? Ie: two block door always pushed open by pistons, but when you add a switch and flick it in the right spot it will open the door

A not gate. You should familiarise yourself with basic logic gates it will make working with redstone a lot easier.
Just have your wire lead into a block, on the other side have a redstone torch then put wire down in front of that.
Adjust the repeater going to the non sticky piston.
The pistons just open once then close when the current is off. So I can't.

Probably because Redstone is fucking awful to wire up for even simple logic gates, it requires so much room to do some things and the quirks are there just to catch you out when you least expect it I'm sure.
What if we put two piston on opposite sides of a block and activated both pistons at the same time? I want to see a video on this.
This has probably been done before, but I added a door that moves into the usual hidden cliff entrance thing.
