Classy, though, from the looks of it, it seems you're going to need a stupid amount of wiring and space for going any higher.
For science, it is worth it.
Fitting music, eh?
Awesome, and what texture pack is that?
Fitting music, eh?
The music is so fitting, that youtube (Or specially "GEMA" ) doesn't allow german people to watch it -.-

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lZm3qkyAJIs&feature=channel_video_title I made baby piston steps.
So I've got whats basically a 3D version of Jallens spiral (to power a music sequencer), and the problem with mine is the wiring is majorly screwed up. The problem with mine is that I've had to make a series of awkward repeaters to get it to even go, and I have to make it go slowly at that. (I'm also using a repeater chain instead of a piston clock, how do I make on of those?) Is there some way I can make the things go in order? (I tried a sequencer but it didn't work too well)
Use a sand block so you dont have to worry about going down
It's more impressive when he has made a mechanic for a block to be pulled down instead, not to mention how it will also allow for more visually pleasing elevators :v:

If you used a sandblock with higher altitudes you would suffer from fall damage.
I think I have a new challenge also on a side not I can never read your posts seriously again after that picture
Well, I was never that serious of a person :v:
Classy, though from the looks of it, it seems you're going to need a stupid amount of wiring and space for going any higher.
I'm going to try and generalize it to a single level of pistons which can be stacked on top of eachother with no additional wiring required
Awesome, and what texture pack is that?
I merged my favorite textures from John Smith and MixCraft in Photoshop.
I'm going to try and generalize it to a single level of pistons which can be stacked on top of eachother with no additional wiring required
I wish you good luck, pistons seem to get pissy when you try to power individual ones in a stack/tower.
I would post the escalator I tried building a couple of times if the game didn't crash and delete my save mid-build. :saddowns:
I wish you good luck, pistons seem to get pissy when you try to power individual ones in a stack/tower.
When powering a piston the piston below it in the stack also extends. It's not a problem though since the lower up/down piston won't be powered. Anyways I came up with this for stackability [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] With the torches pointing north the signal goes from east to south to west and then from west it goes through the pillar with a repeater and starts over at east again. [editline]7th July 2011[/editline] I reckon with room for the timers it'll cover a 3x5 block area, excluding torches and pistons.
rapid repeaters for slow computer. (like mine) [thumb]http://f.cl.ly/items/22203W1p113M1c2v0R2G/2011-07-06_18.05.28.png[/thumb] Step1 - dig 2 blocks (width) [thumb]http://f.cl.ly/items/22203W1p113M1c2v0R2G/2011-07-06_18.05.44.png[/thumb] Step2 - make 2x3 flat surface [thumb]http://f.cl.ly/items/22203W1p113M1c2v0R2G/2011-07-06_18.06.16.png[/thumb] Step3 - put torch under [thumb]http://f.cl.ly/items/22203W1p113M1c2v0R2G/2011-07-06_18.06.29.png[/thumb] Step4 - done! Download link for my deathrun map if you want to test it out, its still a work in progress, so if you find any chests with lots of random stuff in, they are just where i put any block i wasn't using. it have a on/off button and it's pretty fast my repeater :P
The doors were all my creation.
Can someone give me a clear video or set of screen shots on how to make the glowstone wall lights? I've been trying to do it and I need it for a surprise birthday thing today. I can do the floor lights but I can't seem to transfer that from vertical movement to horizontal. Again, I'm terrible with redstone wiring and I don't know anything about gates and latches and all that. But if I see how it has to be done I will be able to replicate it. Thanks in advance.
Guys I just realised you can make a 2 clock as well as a 4 clock! I haven't seen it done before so unless it's been done elsewhere you saw it here first!
I can't get this to work! I have it setup the same way as you do, I think. There is a redstone torch under the other block, just like yours. It just goes to one side and stays there. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?

Thanks. [editline]july 6[/editline] Interesting, I got it to work by having the repeaters on the block rather than the pistons. I could get it go once if I destroyed/replaced a bit of the redstone, but I couldnt get it to cycle.
Okay, I've figured it out. You have to get a way to 'start' the cycling. The most reliable way I've done it is by wiring up a pressure plate+circuit below the machine to turn off both torches, and then turn them back on simultaneously when I step off. That seems to get things going.

I've wired up a sort of 'clutch' switch as well, so I can disconnect from the power without having to kill the cycle. - Wow, I took a really simple looking concept and made it more bloated than it needs to be. Haha :P
Don't know if it has been found yet, but I was able to push a door both up and down without it breaking. I already have a great idea for it that I will work on later today.

[editline]july 6[/editline] Interesting, I got it to work by having the repeaters on the block rather than the pistons.
It actually is a very good contraption for demonstrating some problems with redstone and pistons. I know one guy who couldn't get it to work at all, in fact I rebuilt it and I couldn't get it to work this time. As well as this, another friend managed to get it to make blocks completely dissapear by removing the repeaters and wiring it up directly. So in short - don't use it, minecraft is too buggy for it. You can see in your first pic that the piston should have power, yet it doesn't push. It should work always, but minecraft is too buggy.
I made an elevator based on the sticky+normal push/pull method someone posted in this thread, but turned vertical. Then I discovered that door trick as a way to make it go both up and down, by having the opposite setup above the door. It worked really well but I found out someone had alrady done it :(
