no, he needs a lever, there is no way around it, a button will not just stay on, it'll hit for one second and then turn off, a flip flop is a whole new circuit that his whiny little self won't want to build because it's too complicated to add a new circuit as opposed to putting a lever where the button should be, since, you know, levers are buttons that toggle.
Fucking I feel like redstone is so time consuming to learn and implement, that if notch ever replaces it most people will hate the shit out of him.

It is nice to be able to press a button, have a door stay open, press it again and have it close.
it just looks good.

I understand, but what that guy wants is a way to build with one circuit, something that is toggle-able. and the solution to that is to use a lever. whether or not it's actually what he wants to use, what he's looking for is a lever.
How the hell are people making elevators?
If you're referring to my post, then it can only go up. I'm trying to figure out how to make the same elevator work both up and down, but since sticky pistons don't pull the same amount of blocks they can push it doesn't work. If an update changed sticky pistons to be able to pull multiple blocks at a time (or at least other sticky pistons) then it'd be possible using this design. Otherwise we need a different model to get a working up/down elevator.
Making an elevator to just go up isn't that difficult.
let's say that you have some pistons behind a wall, and when a lever is flipped the pistons extend to form secret stairs
the guy on the previous page might want to be able to toggle those pistons from either side(top or bottom) of the stairs, thus making levers inappropriate and needing buttons on both sides that toggle all the pistons
he needs a t flip flop to which he connects both buttons as the input and pistons as the output
What the hell do you guys use to record video's? Also

I may be wrong, but what you're explaining sounds like it could be solved with an XOR. Much easier than a T Flip Flop.
Fantastic.
I hacked together a version where you don't need to rely on levers:

Door with an XOR gate. Handy stuff. Post pics soon. Being terribly lazy atm.
Once too many items get's updated I'm going to make an animated redstone screen.
Jallen, how did you get the rom onto screen? I'm a bit confused on how you did it, did you just take 4 blocks from each thing, then cycle the thing 4 times to get 4 more?
Each of the redstone torches is connected to one of the lines on the ROM, so there are 16 torches, and 16 lines of on/off data on the ROM.

I intended to make the combination lock use 8 levers, but i built it too close to surface and hit a beach :v:
T flip flops are rather advanced
(I also have some and gates in there)
This circuit is actually a prototype, I'm meaning to put it in a house house, it slides one peice of dirt away, but remains fully hidden untill the button is pushed
I'm going to build a farm now so I can then import it to my 1.8 world. Are there any good piston wheat farm techniques?

Got a pretty neat piston farming idea, which doesn't require any water and 4 block high wiring/water slopes. But it doesn't work properly because of a bug

Thanks, that didn't occur to me because due to space constrictions I built my ROM really small.
Damn flip flops are now much easier to make:

It isn't, you just have to look at it from a different perspective.
UGH Redstone is fucking impossible to use
I used to think it was dumb and didn't make sense in a lot of places. I got into it though and realised it's not as bad as you initially think. It's just a bit wierd and harder to comprehend than electronics because it has no physical basis.
Aside from the cool effect, does it really have much use?
Could work as a system for unauthorized usage of your track (unless you got enough speed on the previous parts of the track, you won't have enough velocity to escape falling off).
[editline]9th July 2011[/editline]
It also reminds me of the train chase scene in "The Wrong Trousers" where Gromit is rapidly placing rails in front of him since the track isn't finished.
