Wow, I wouldn't like to be sat at that table when the piston retracted.
Hey guys, i made a changeable minecraft track with pistons. Post? Or am i late?
Change as in being able to switch from going left or right at a intersection.

That was already done, but what's the harm in posting again?
God damn it Pistons drive me insane... I almost had the completely perfect secret way to open and close a conceiled chest... when suddenly, one of the pistons inexplainably would not stop being activated. I tried removing all the redstone inputs to it, I tried removing all the blocks around it, I tried deactivating it, I tried removing it and placing another piston in its place... NOTHING I did would make the piston retract in that particular goddamn spot.

WHAT THE FUCK IS UP WITH THIS PISTON

Redstone and pistons are buggy as hell. It annoys me when something should work but doesn't :(
edit:
Made a self building, self repairing building -

I would love if some of you all uploaded your (Hopefully small) maps with really large redstone contraptions. It would help newer people like me understand them.
I don't think it would help much. I've looked at other peoples contraptions and it's hard to see what is going on. Once you understand the basics it's simple.
The best way to learn is to check out a tutorial on youtube which covers all the basics, then learn the clock and the latch. That's pretty much all you need for anything practical.

I find the best way to learn redstone is to read through the start of the redstone circuits wiki page and then build most of the gates. Don't bother trying to make a fancy contraption, just build the circuits up on a plain bit of land to get a feel of building.
Building a couple of the variations of the more complex circuits can also help your understanding.
I tried to dive straight in with pistons but never got anywhere since I didn't have the understandings of power transmission (the most important part of redstone) and how to make fairly compact circuits.

You could also have a got with the piston circuits too (which can be very handy)

Most compact block switcher i could make
and i made this from scratch by myself
You need to think more three-dimensionally, you can make that lots more compact by digging down or building up.

I removed some of the repeaters and made it a little more compact, it's super fast now
i will try what you said, thanks
To anyone looking forward to my minecraft track switcher, i'll upload it tomorrow when i get all the shit fixed. I added a bit more and it fuck up. Why does redstone have to be so annoying?! D:

Just a side note, only the middle piston needs to be a sticky piston as well.

True. I dont know why I used stickies there.
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you...
The 2 piston clock!
I haven't seen this done elsewhere, maybe because people tried it and found the bugs, and gave up. But as long as it faces the right way, it's stable.

I remember one of those was posted on one of the first few pages. The funny thing is that he was also using Dokucraft Light (Though yours is slightly customised).

Here's my implementation, is there any way to move that button up? I tried just wiring and it doesnt work with that button anywhere else.

You can use wire, you just have to place a piece of wire on the block the torch is attached to. RS wire powers the block it's in and the block it's on - That being the same as the torch

Hidden swimming pool maybe? There could be steps leading into it that block the existing water from view, and the switch makes the pool appear

Is it directional? Does it have to face perpendicular to the clouds?
Place it anyway you want, to me it works no matter how I place it.
