Is it directional? Does it have to face perpendicular to the clouds?
You can do this I can't figure out a way to get the other way to work vertically
Ladies and gentlemen, I give you... The 2 piston clock! I haven't seen this done elsewhere, maybe because people tried it and found the bugs, and gave up. But as long as it faces the right way, it's stable.
I don't really get the point of piston clocks, they're so noisy, if you want to use them you have to have them a long distance anyway from whatever you're using them for otherwise the sound will drive you crazy.
I remember one of those was posted on one of the first few pages. The funny thing is that he was also using Dokucraft Light (Though yours is slightly customised).
Yeah that was probably me :v: I posted a gif of it, but a couple of people tried it and couldn't make it work very well, probably because they built it the wrong way around but I didn't know about it at the time. I only went back to it yesterday to see if I could find why it didn't work. This is the gif I posted. Will post it in a bit when I've recorded it with some changes.
I would love if some of you all uploaded your (Hopefully small) maps with really large redstone contraptions. It would help newer people like me understand them.
I could possibly upload one of my Redstone testing saves, though most of them are huge.
i did a 1 piston clock the other day but didn't really see the use as it was so noisy. the good thing is that it works immediately when the world loads but that's easily solvable anyways so why bother?
Well it's insanely easy to build, that's one good reason.

Often breaks itself, better to use a 2 piston clock IMO - I made a video on it.
Well it's insanely easy to build, that's one good reason.
So's a 2 repeater clock. The only advantage that my 1 piston had was that it was insanely fast due to no repeaters and that it works on startup without restarting. Not worth it unless you need something incredibly fast.
when the 1-Clock breaks, wouldn't the easiest way to fix it be to put a torch behind the piston so that it forces an extension, and then just break your torch so that it retracts and pulls the block back?

I made some sort of obstacle course thingie with that 1-clock, although I had to slow it down a bit to make it possible to actually cross the obstacle course [sp]I'm not very good at obstacle courses.[/sp]

And also a mega hard difficulty that uses random timings for the blocks to move.
I'm still pretty novice with pistons, not to mention how my computer probably would not handle it too well if it got any more complicated.
I used some of the ideas from the thread to create a simple entrance. [hd]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WnBoDhQF-uA[/hd]

First attempt at something useful, plus a bit about the 2 piston clock.
First attempt at something useful, plus a bit about the 2 piston clock.
They can be really wierd at times, not extending when they should, staying extended when they shouldn't, making blocks dissapear, having their heads destroyed or moved :v: You can't count on something that should work on working, a lot of it is just trial and error :D
First attempt at something useful, plus a bit about the 2 piston clock.
Heh. You have to dig out a sand block, to flip a switch, to remove a block. I dont think pistons are needed for that part.
How would I go about stringing block switchers together? Using vexx's small compact version.
Heh. You have to dig out a sand block, to flip a switch, to remove a block. I dont think pistons are needed for that part.
Well its just until I learn redstone a bit better, work in progress.
A house I made: It contains various piston things. I created all of this with cheats, which is pretty obvious in the video. [editline]23rd July 2011[/editline] So, I filmed some footage for the tutorial on how to create the 4x4 piston door in a new, more compact way. Anyone interested? I plan to edit the videos with text tomorrow, so It'll be ready by then :)
Woops! I was wrong about my piston clock statement. Anyways, here's a 1 piston clock working in any direction: oh, it's also perfectly stable.
Pistons should shoot the player and sand/gravel blocks into the air when pushing them upwards.
Pistons should shoot the player and sand/gravel blocks into the air when pushing them upwards.
I never liked that feature, I'm glad that Notch and Jeb decided against it. It simply looked too illogical, even for Minecraft.
I never liked that feature, I'm glad that Notch and Jeb decided against it. It simply looked too illogical, even for Minecraft.
Well I do agree that the force was way too high in the original mod, but it should at-least push it up a couple blocks high.
Well I do agree that the force was way too high in the original mod, but it should at-least push it up a couple blocks high.
Nah. It would destroy a lot of contraptions involving the player, not to mention how it would not make sense with the gravel and sand. The theoretical reason the sand and gravel falls downwards in Minecraft is because they're too unstable to hold themselves together, it would not make as much sense for them to be affected by gravity and fall straight down if launched into the air. Yeah, I liked the original piston mod better because it could launch things. Was so fun
