I've been playing female characters in RPGs for quite a long time (Because I don't give a shit and it's a game) and I've noticed that this doesn't really happen all that much.
Maybe in shit like Maplestory for example, but I'd say that's an exception not the rule.
The real female gamers who actually play it for the game probably are too scared to talk at all because some of the immature twats in the server will start being, well, immature
so they basically keep to themselves.

I have a girl gamer on my friends list. She is fun to talk to, doesnt flaunt the fact she is a girl, and Id love to play a game with her sometime but I cant because were too far away.
On the other hand, ive seen a girl join a game with her name, followed by a cat face, and the first thing she said was "Hey, Im a girl playing games." She was in the game for about 5 minutes, and someone started hitting on her.

Its all good practice for the time I turn 21 and start going to clubs on regular basis to pick up women.

I talk to girls all the time in games. However it's usually a second priority to the game itself.
I would say it depends on how the girl reacts to it. If she obviously loves it and is attention whoring, I try not to feed that. If she's overtly hostile towards it, I don't bother.
I kind of like to reflect this to furries.
