I don't think facepunch takes part in stuff like this, atleast in public.
;33718022']Now here is the problem. GGamers don't really have their own clear community so they just have to make do
So what you're saying is you want females on the internet to keep to their own communities away from us menfolk?
I don't give a shit about gender in online games
Guy In Real Life
Really? Every time I encounter girl gamer everyone seems to treat them like a goddess.
So what you're saying is you want females on the internet to keep to their own communities away from us menfolk?
Might've worded my thoughts wrong. I meant they don't have that possibility, so if some GGamer is actually annoying, what can you do, it's not like there's girl-only servers she can go to. Then again, it is annoying and something that can be prevented by just using common sense. Kinda like furfags.
I don't understand whats wrong with flirting with girls in video games? Cannot seriously expect to gain anything from it. Flirting helps me improve my game. I try to flirt with hot girls when: calling customer support, ordering coffee, depositing checks, pumping gas, e.t.c.. Why not extend this skill to videogames? Its all good practice for the time I turn 21 and start going to clubs on regular basis to pick up women.
Seeing as your home-schooled I can see why you would want to flirt with women besides your mother [editline]14th December 2011[/editline] On the serious note: I cannot see how flirting improves your, "game"
Girls who play games are still called 'gamers' but dear god 'grrrrl gamerzz' are the fucking bane of my very existence. No I will hunt them down and skin them cool you're good looking but don't play games and expect to be hailed as the almighty fucking messiah. I mean c'mon..... that's Allah. [editline]14th December 2011[/editline]
I have a girl gamer on my friends list. She is fun to talk to, doesnt flaunt the fact she is a girl, and Id love to play a game with her sometime but I cant because were too far away. On the other hand, ive seen a girl join a game with her name, followed by a cat face, and the first thing she said was "Hey, Im a girl playing games." She was in the game for about 5 minutes, and someone started hitting on her.
Don't hit on me silly boys. This post sums up my opinion on girl gamers.
[t]http://fc04.deviantart.net/fs27/f/2008/153/c/7/Girl_Gamers_by_FizTheAncient.png[/t] Thumbed for size This should explain enough. I understand if these 'girl gamers' get all the flames because honestly, they're annoying as shit.
While the comic has a (small) point, the added sexism (back to the kitchen) is unnecessary and stupid.
While the comic has a (small) point, the added sexism (back to the kitchen) is unnecessary and stupid.
Could just be a reference to the target group of cooking mama, Who i imagine are female.
So you're saying that you lack even the most basic social skills? Okay, but that's not a excuse for smooth talking while you're supposed to help your goddamn team win. Dating hot-lines exists for a reason, use those instead and stop ruining the game for everyone else, and possibly also pissing someone off for no good reason.
You have much to learn, young one.
girl gamers are annoying as fuck some of them can have sexy voices but then... just...
I know one and the reason she doesnt play TF2 is because she says furries hit on her after 5 seconds. And she doesnt flaunt the fact
The majority of female gamers don't even bother flaunting it. I refuse to use my mic in public servers. I had another friend who didn't even tell me she was female for about a year. There's just no need to advertise it. You either get half the server trying to hit on you and the other half talking shit. It's not worth the headache. Yeah, there are some girls who go on and advertise and those are called attention whores. Ignore them, don't fuel them. Sexism is still sexism even if it's in favor of the sex.
So Facepunch, What is your opinion? Why do most male gamers treat the all female gamers in this way? Please share your opinion.
we live in a sexist society, and both men and women manifest the expected results of that some girl gamers use it for attention, and most male gamers go a bit batshit [editline]15th December 2011[/editline] fuck if I cared there's enough out there to do a phd candidacy on it
Now this is something that gets on my nerves a lot. The amount of sexism you find on online games. I've always wondered why us men seem to think it's okay to verbally abuse women on forums, games and any where else on the internet. Now I'm posting this here because verbal sexism towards women is always found on games such as CoD, css, Left 4 Dead and most other FPS games. I've always wondered why male gamers do this and what drives male gamers to fling abuse like this over chat and mic to women that just want to play the game like everybody else. I know that action games don't appeal towards a female audience so should we at least praise the female gaming community rather than pushing them away. I have two steam friends that are girls and feel that it's better to play with local friends rather than on public servers. If they want to play on a public game they have to change their names to not give away their gender and both like to use microphone communication which they feel they can't because the abuse they will get simply because of their gender. We all receive some abuse online in one way or another. I've gotten "British fag" and my all time favourite "Posh fucking tea sipper" for using a mic. But that's just simple abuse. Where I can just simply jump to the maturity of the person mentally or physically. That will probably be one or two people doing that. But for a girl that could be most of the server or a group of people. Which with the female gaming community being very small will rarely have anyone to defend them in a argument. Unless the is that one rare mature person that sees right from wrong. I know when it comes to gaming it's okay to an extent not to give a shit about someone's feelings but the is a limit. Now this is what I understand twelve year old uses a mic hurts everyone's ears. Everyone tells him to shut up and stop using the mic till he either does or leaves the server. That's what I understand. It could be seen as ageism but from my experiences I see why people genuinely tell them not to use the mic. What I don't understand woman uses the mic perfectly able to understand her she doesn't put anyone off. None of this shouting bull shit or abuse. The woman would probably get more abuse than an irritating immature kid shouting, raging and swearing every five seconds. So Facepunch, What is your opinion? Why do most male gamers treat the all female gamers in this way? Please share your opinion.
well fine sir you do have a fine point there however most normal people don't spam the mic with "SUP GUYZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ IM A GIRL GAMUR LOL :p LOL U GOT KILLED BY A GURLLL GAMUERRRR" there are normal girls that play games they use the mic the same as other people the ones that constantly attention whore like in this video however are annoying as fuck, and 90 percent of the time we are abusive to attention whores, but not normal girl gamers this is not sexist it's simply being annoyed by stupid people
I try to be just as polite in game to girls as I am in real life even if they may be 200 pounds and filled with acne.
To sum up this thread: We treat them badly because the have GOTY. There, I just saved you 15 minutes of your life.

I'd say that there are also the middle ground, those who use a mic similar to the way guys use their mic (for actually talking about the game, calling out enemies, etc), maintain their names, but simply act as if it is normal for a girl to be gaming. They usually don't react to people hitting on them and mute the haters. That's the best type imo. She games ofc.
I personally believe it is because the girls that you've seen been flamed have acted like downright jackasses when they played online. If they refuse to work in a team and rather yell about being a girl they sort of have it coming. The gurl gamers are the ones that become flamed, the gamers girls are just any other player and are treated as such. It's especially notable in FPS games which ones are which. The gurl gamers run ahead all the freaking time and use the microphone to yell stupid ass comments such as "follow me", even though every other player is obviously more experienced. Those girls are just looking for a new source of attention and don't give a jack about the game. There are guys like this as well, but you haven't noticed them since it's easier to notice minorities (in this case girls). Female gamers do NOT need any form of defending party to look out for them. Women are independent enough to survive on their own. You have probably played along with a lot more female players than you've realized, but you only notice the ones that for some reason think that the game is a dating service and feel the need to state their gender constantly or the ones that have a girly name ingame.

Guys hate it when they get beaten by a girl. Thats a fact.
Guys hate it when they get beaten by a girl. Thats a fact.
I don't, they probably spend more time in game than me, so yeah. Then again I'm used to playing against competitive female gamers.
I know three girls who play both Xbox and PC with me, and they're all really, cool never act obnoxious about the fact that they're a girl, and actually can play the game, and manage as a team. However, there's another girl I know, who's got an Xbox Live profile. What's her gamertag you may ask? "Killed by a girrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrl". She's always yelling into her mic about the fact that she's a girl. She's the stereotypical ~gamer gurrl~, and then some. Like with most things, it all depends on the person. A few rotten apples spoil the whole bunch.

I know a girl that quit the competitive TF2 community, because of sexism.
I try to be just as polite in game to girls as I am in real life even if they may be 200 pounds and filled with acne.
I guess it's just me who abuses just about everyone on a game because i can, even myself is not safe from my abuse.
I guess it's just me who abuses just about everyone on a game because i can, even myself is not safe from my abuse.
Maybe I can abuse you too? :>
The girl gamers I've seen on servers are the "Lol gaiz I m a gurl gamer don't hit on me silly boizz <3<3<3" type. Though I am sure there are a lot of normal, well adjusted, non-attention whoring females who happen to play games. But in all honesty besides that I am pretty neutral about it.
I know two girls who play games who I didn't even know were girls until a while into our friendship which is the key point, if girls just sit there and play the game instead of naming themselves OMG GIRL GIRL LOOK IM A GIRL XxX~~~ XD and bragging about their gender they wouldn't get hit on or treated badly etc.
The only time I payed special attention to a girl gamer was in a TF2 game, and I learned that she was a Philly native, so her, an enemy spy, and myself were sitting in the intel room just talking about "the good ol' days" over voice chat. The rest of the server was pissed.
