MGS3 works fine with the emulator I used, it was a total bitch to root though all my ancient stuff to find the disk and the console though.
Works awful with a keyboard, but with a gamepad it plays just like MGS3, just with some slowdowns every once in a while. Glad this is coming out though!

Taking off the nostalgia shades, it was more shit than MGO2. Mostly due to bad netcode (i often died 2-4 secs after being shot and vice versa) and the weird animations that HAD to play when you were incapacitated. Getting up took 3-4 seconds before you could do anything!
I think it was well established in 1987 that Metal Gear in a multiplayer environment would never work.

One thing I will always criticize about MGS3's environment:
It looks like they took Vietnam, dotted a few hammers and sickles every few KM, and called it the Soviet Union.

Oh and a little interesting tidbit about the Metal Gear series for the MGS kiddies who only played since MGS:
Metal Gear 2 and Metal Gear Solid 3 take place in the exact same place. If you take the time you will realize that Metal Gear 2's world is basically the world of MGS3 in 2d and reversed. Other than that the areas are slightly smaller (And some bigger), also some of the geography is slightly changed, although that can be attributed to simple forgetfulness or development decisions. For example, Groznyj Grad is 4 stories high, and the desert mountain area after the ladder boss battle has a 30 story high sky scraper (smart idea eh? Oxygen suffocation at the lowest point of the summit wasn't good enough eh?)
The swamp is there as it is in MGS3, and the cliff you start at in the beginning is next to another cliff and has a bridge going to it. Every geological feature you see in MGS3 is in it's original 2d form in Metal Gear 2.
