Is it as good as the Hl1 mod or does it have the same feel as it?, if so i'll buy it.
it looks like it does, i haven't played it myself though
Oh well, anyways, OP should make a list of facepunchers who play the game, and their ingame names.
Good idea. We could also try to arrange some Facepunch NS2 games at some point.
Also are they bringing dynamic infestation back?
What do you mean? DI has never been removed from the game.
That's what I thought.
My ingame name is Mr. Jazzy

This stuff looks a lot better. Although if it is brought back it shouldn't be as bumpy, but its better than the 2D infestation we have now
Ingame name is Space Pope III (I think)
By the time Onos is implemented, Marines will also have jetpacks, exo suits and dual miniguns!
Jetpacks? Nooo! My Lerk annoyance plan will fail!
Imagine (as a Lerk) flying away from a marine with a jetpack and a flamethrower coming right at you :tinfoil:
The limit the game really needs is how many turrets you can place in a room.
A team of flamethrowers will clean a Hydra nest easy. Well, a team of flamethrowers can kill just about anything if organized enough.

It has already been explained several times (including in the OP) that the current 2d infestation is just a simple prototype and a placeholder until they can get the proper 3d mesh working right.
Implementing the full DI at this stage would only add to the performance problems they're currently dealing with.
I think we can all agree on that engine optimization is the top priority right now.

We all fucking know this. He was just pointing out it wasn't implemented yet.

No I thought they got rid of it. I rather liked his explanation.
No I thought they got rid of it. I rather liked his explanation.
When the DI prototype was put in the build, they said they just wanted something simple so they could test and tweak how it worked in the game. That way, when the real DI tech goes in, there would be no time spent making it balanced.
Anyway, I can't wait for this game to get polished. They said that once the game gets out of beta, they will begin adding optimizing and adding new features to the engine and tools so it can serve modders rather than just themselves.

Oh, sorry. I thought you knew, shit I should really stop assuming stuff. Here, have a :h:.
Also are they bringing dynamic infestation back?
Cory (Art Director) said something on this matter in an exploded thread just recently

The current implementation is using placeholder graphics, which will indeed be improved upon :)

Ugh once the game gets out of beta it's launched. Not a good time to optimize
Or they could be revolutionary and go into Charlie :v:

Still in beta so pretty buggy so while you can tell its getting there its not as good as ns1 yet.
I may buy it still anyway, looks pretty good and i'm expecting bugs in a beta...

Typically a beta has removed features on purpose. A build with everything is a Gamma I believe

Actually they are now balancing it before it goes gold using the prototype and the current temporary graphics. Dynamic Infestation will be finalized once it goes gold, so they say. Max (the programming god behind NS2) said it wouldn't be to hard to turn it into a displacement map, but currently more important and more complicated issues are at hand like server and client optimization to run make it run smoother
Mind you buid 179 has done an amazing job at getting the server side optimized. The good servers run at a decent 25-30 tickrate out of 30, but there are some servers which have their player count set too high taking the server specs into account, I'm guessing. Resulting in a bad/laggy gaming experience, with a tickrate of just 5-10. The problem is, this server problem is kind of a hidden problem from a gamer perspective :(

Even when the game is finished, I think there is still going to be a large effort from the team to make the game better, since that is where their profit is coming from. I often think what Unknown Worlds will do after NS2 begins to stop selling. They will probably have to start something new to stay alive.
Also, I finally played a round of NS2 8v8, it was a blast with the new patch.
Not to mention how easy there map builder is to use there is bound to be loads of user created maps.

The question is, how good are those user created maps going to be gameplay-wise?
This game is going to be awesome. I preordered it the moment it became available.
Everyone who has played the original half-life mod knows this game is going to be big.
I never played Natural Selection but did anyone here play Gloom from Quake 2? This reminds me a lot of that mod, which was fucking awesome. This shit looks great too.
Sorry I've never heard of it, but I will speak to the quality of this team. I purchased the Beta just from looking at the OP in this thread because the original mod was so good. And for a beta I'm not at all disappointed. Bug fixes for spawning and such will be appreciated but it plays very well.
Great games today chaps. :tiphat:
I'm gonna start compiling a list of Facepunch NS2 players and put it on the OP, so if you want your name in, post your nickname on this thread or send me a PM.
My Nick is Bionic
