I just bought a boxed copy, I can just activate that with steam cant I?
I think it might require Steam actually. I bought it from D2D and the only way you can install it from there is through Steam. Now, I don't think you can actually activate the game til release though.
The game play is putrid and having characters doing everything for you isn't fun and so 2005.

Having smart teammates is a bad thing? :v:

Wow, reviews of HF on Youtube got removed, but by their own creators.
List of retail games that you can activate on Steam: https://support.steampowered.com/kb_article.php?ref=7480-wusf-3601
Homefront isn't listed but it might be also that it isn't officially been released yet.
Well all digital download sites must register it through Steam, I gather it's using Steamworks or whatever.
[editline]14th March 2011[/editline]
Yep it's steamworks

Really, really wishing we could preload. Now I'm gonna have to wait 'till tomorrow afternoon to play it.
Luckily if you bought from Direct2Drive, you can download it, then it just unlocks and installs through Steam.

Thought the singleplayer had nice moments but was somewhat flawed. Here is what they had to say about the multiplayer:
Throw in sprawling Ground Control missions, a fierce Skirmish mode and an impromptu priority-based mission generator in the form of the Battle Creator, and Homefront's multiplayer really packs a punch. We'd go so far to say that this is the classiest, best value multiplayer shooter on the market, comfortably bettering both recent CoD monsters and edging ahead of Bad Company 2. It deserves a wide, fully engaged audience.
My body is ready.
Wow, ahead of Bad Company 2. My interest has spiked.
Anyone else notice the "blue4" on the M4 in this game is almost identical to that on the M4 and M16 in CoD 4.

oh no they stole it
I either have to choose this or overgrowth. Uggghhh
Haven't heard about Overgrowth, wiki'd it, sounds incredibly unique.
But you should buy the game where you shoot bad guys with an M4.
I'm playing on Hard because I heard it increases the playtime of the game to at least 3 hours longer.

Better than BC2? Well then, I'm really looking forward to playing.
I'll do what I normally do on shooters: Play on easy for the layouts and story, then on hardest for achievements and challenge.
Why not just start on hardest so you get the best experience first time around?
Would it be wise to but this even though I already have BC2 and Blops installed?
Ok, it seems like some people have this already, how many weapons are in Homefront?
Why not just start on hardest so you get the best experience first time around?
If its like MW2, I find it hard to concentrate on the story with grenades raining on me from every direction.

That's what Im doing :buddy:
Ok, it seems like some people have this already, how many weapons are in Homefront?
5 assault rifles, 2 LMGs, 2 SMGs, 2 Sniper rifles, and a shotgun exclusive to Gamestop pre-orders for 30 days.
Ok, it seems like some people have this already, how many weapons are in Homefront?
5 ARs, 2 SMGs, 2 LMGs, 2 Sniper Rifles (The Intervention being one of them w00t), and an exclusive shotgun from GameStop.
It's not as many as other games tend to offer, but I like it, will make each weapon more distinct and balanced, unlike other games where there's a ton of weapons that pretend to offer you choice but 1-2 in each category are THE BEST that everyone uses.
Each weapon can have 2 attachments on (of which there's a good variety) and there's more to select from to customize your loadout than other games to make up for it.
I'll probably rent this.

Jesus man, can it look anymore like a MW2 clone?
I'm sure it won't be the crapfest that was MW2, but it sure does fucking hell look like a generic modern war FPS.
Ahaha, what the fuck are you talking about. You have a gun and you can shoot it. Welcome to just about any shooter released, good and bad, including BC2.
The game barely classifies as "generic" considering how it's actually very original with many unique concepts and spins on ideas from other FPSes.

There's also a pistol, RPGS, and then you can add things like drones, airstrikes, vehicles, etc.
Yeah I forgot the Pistol, didn't really count it because it's the only secondary option you can pick, other secondaries are bought with BP on the fly or are just primaries you pick up off the ground =p. I just assumed the guy meant primaries.
Yes I agree, because CoD/BC2 invented all that stuff, they definitely are not pulling anything from real life when it comes to almost every single one of those things. Absolutely not.
srsly, how the environments look? That has to be the worst complaint I've read about this game yet, the environments look similar to CoD/BC2!!!1! No, they look similar to rl, it's a modern shooter.
no seriously, pull your head out of your ass and notice how similar they are in every possible way when they don't need to be
has nothing to do with real life
in real life you don't get LOL +500 POINTS on your screen when you do something, or a subtle wide crosshair, or the gun turning a bit with your movement exactly like it does in CoD, or the class selecting menu looking exactly like CoD, or the HUD looking exactly like BC2
plus the art style for all the vehicles and environments and stuff is ridiculously similar to BC2
don't say 'herp derp it's realism' no it isn't.

I'm sorry but CoD/BC2 didn't do any of these first, HUDs are generally similar in about every game ever because someone does it right and HUDs are designed based on how eyes and people work to be effecient, and the art style is modern, it looks similar to BC2 because it's also modern, so holy shit they look similar and based on real life. Not every game is comedy Borderlands with cartoon graphics or something.
Modern shooters are generally all samey. You need to look behind the stuff that doesn't matter (woahhh the environments are modeled after real life places and the HUD placement looks similar) and look at how the game plays.
Pretty sure CoD doesn't have any type of remotely close escalating warfare, pretty sure BC2 doesn't have as tight of gun controls.
Maybe you should also critique the game after actually playing it, it's a nice mix of other modern shooters, with its own unique touches, and it doesn't fail at it like Medal of Honor did.
I'm not saying it's the MOST ORIGINAL game ever, but you need to get more valid complaints than "numbers appear on your screen to let you know you're advancing" "subtle wide crosshair in every game ever" "gun turning with you in tons of FPS games like Half Life 2" "class menu looks the exact same because there's tons of different ways to make a class menu look and not be visually stupid"
Doing stupid stuff that makes no sense but is new might be original, but it's...well...stupid. All that stuff is similar for a good reason.
e: weird double post
art style isn't anything like bc2 but I agree with the rest you've said mr penis
LET ME FUCKING PRE LOAD
