I liked the game a lot (I still have it, lots the expansion :suicide:) Best thing is you can modd it to have almost infinite population. It's a lot like Age of Empires, only covers more time, and has some tacticool features.
I liked rise of nation sure a few things here and there were a bit unrealistic but you get that with all games.

I just realised I am getting rise of nations confused with end of nations, and in turn confused with world in conflict.

They told fans to make it and they'd give them their blessing or something. Right now there's a Timesplitters multiplayer mod in development I believe.
