using the 360 controller on PC you can just hold down R and it's basically full auto.

is it not supposed to be that way?

I really wish this had a checkpoint system, having to redo an entire level because of making a dumb mistake is really annoying.

but it makes the game challenging which is something most video games lack nowadays

Accidentally walking into lava and having to redo half an hour of progress isn't "challenging," it's just annoying.
It's not like it needs to save every five seconds, just every few waves. At least even at the halfway point.

fyi it is better on pc

i'd think aiming would be a bit clunky on the XBOX
