let's get inuki in this thing so he can say how AS is suitable for MP competitive playyy...
no but seriously, AS being a balance between arcade and realism is perfectly fine.
Battlefield is between CoD and ArmA in terms of realism, does that make it bad?
Battlefield between CoD and ArmA? Are you fucking kidding me? Battlefield is a little more realistic than CoD, but that does not put it in between those two.
AS being a balance between arcade and realism is perfectly fine.
Sure is, and the way Men of War is designed it will pretty much default on that principle regardless. However, I think you missesd my point.
Battlefield is between CoD and ArmA in terms of realism, does that make it bad?
Have to agree with joost1120 on that, and to add that it's an entirely different game and genre irrelevant to MoW.

Red Orchestra would be a better example. Realistic compared to Battlefield and CoD but still less realistic than ARMA. I'd say that Red Orchestra is the Men of War of FPS's or vice-versa, of course.
MoWAS definitely has balance problems, but they should get fixed as DMS gets to them...From what I know, DMS is quiet small.
Competitive play on MoWAS works, and is better than base MoW IMO, but like others have said, it isn't balanced and well polished enough to have starcraft/CoH levels of competition.
I agree, they have been rather quiet as of recently. I guess they are working on more 3D models as well as map packs to pay for the 3D modelers (or 3D models, are they made in house or bought from a 3rd Party?)
A lot of my best matches ever were with Triumph yelling at everyone this summer, haven't been on mumble in a few months but he always made sure I'd stop slacking and play my best. I can see why people don't like him but he really helped me get better personally.
Can anyone tell me why they took out tracers in GSM?
Can anyone tell me why they took out tracers in GSM?
I think it's because it's more realistic that way.
Well, it's newly released. It's a given there's going to be problems, I am having a lot of them myself without out a doubt. Installed the newer patched version, and now it crashes each time it finishes loading(not sure if it has to do with the map or what not.) And I've been experiencing the version differences myself too. There's a patched version, and the release one, along with Fields of Honour 6 for regular Men of War(IE: Not AS.) :v:
The balance in AS, imo, is bad. I can start naming things and make an entire novel out of it, but it's all moot for the very reason you just mentioned "competitive" and seem to like a more fast paced game. That's entirely fine, and is with good reason. But this doesn't exactly suit Men of War's style of gameplay. Company of Heroes is fast paced, and then something like Theatre of War(even though I could never get into ToW games) is a lot more slow. I like to think of MoW as something between the two, still keeping the more realistic features engrained into the gameplay, and scrapping the very "arcady" feel that for example CoH has. AS is caught in a battle between realism, and balance. You can either have one or the other, not both, and making it 50/50 just generally makes it even worse(as AS seems to be trying to do.) GSM offers a much wider scale, and a much more broad spectrum to the entire battlefield where it matters more upon the player, and not about one factions AA gun being more powerful than the others.
If the game is slow, and that doesn't allow for any "competition" for you, then maybe Starcraft/CoH is more for you? I certainly don't like to measure "competition" by how fast paced a game is, and how the player with a quicker micro-management is the better player. This just generates a very linear recipe for each game you play.
Well put, however I just dislike the fact in GSM, say you put up a squad holding a house, and they die. They are very hard to replace and you will likely be waiting a few minutes just for another squad. Then a light tank comes and just holds the point while you can't really afford AT infantry because they are too costly. Say you do in fact get the AT infantry, it is still very difficult to get into a position to destroy them. However, I will admit, like you said, I am more into fast paced games, I do play Company of Heroes but I wouldn't like to compare it to Men of War. I guess I could rephrase it so I could be saying it is more of a balance issue rather than a slower game issue. Last time I played assault zones within it, I couldn't really push at all because of the severe lack of units.

They're doing a major re-balance from what I know. It wont change gameplay, but it will change the speed of things (supposedly).
I think it's because it's more realistic that way.
Not really, from what I know all tanks used Tracer rounds, MG's usually did also.
For me the GSM is just realistic as it can get for MoW, so it doesn't feel unbalanced that much. Germans have powerful tanks but they cost a lot, allieds have 'meh'-quality stuff but cheaper. Russians have mid-tier stuff with the price being between the two forementioned factions.
Still wishing for Combat-Mission style brutal realism, missions, and campaigns. Always wanted to play the Russian Campaign from the German point of view as the commander of army-group who tried to relief the 6th Army trapped in Stalingrad.

nein, ArmA doesn't have weapon resting and stuff, RO(1)'s infantry combat feels a lot more visceral and realistic than arma for the most part.

they retain tracers in MGs (with proper tracer/ball ratios), they just remove them from rifles and SMGs and such. Less eye candy, more realism.
I think Red Orchestra captures how it feels like to be a soldier because it's significantly more immerse. ARMA II feels like a cold hard sim with no personality. It's more realistic in many areas, but it doesn't make you feel like you are actually that soldier.

Yeah... its too real to be immersive. Hopefully ArmA3 will have a smoother environment/more immersion. But what it really depends on is the environment. ArmA2's deserts don't really help immerse the player.

deserts can be immersive too with tons of bloom and heat flare effects!
no but seriously, non-scripted sandstorms would help a lot.
My god this game is frustrating. For the last 10 or so games all I've done is join pre-made pre-stacked clanfag lobbies where everyone waits for the rest of the pubs to join, just to completely stomp them.
Obviously I don't know much about the game itself, but godfuckingdamn. I don't mind evenly matched games, even if I lose, as there is still some beneficial knowledge to learn. But going against a 5 player team of -=FFI=- clandouchecannons, after previously going after a 3+1pub russian clan, after previously going against a modded lobby where I had to go against germans with infinite points and 6 Veteran Tigers, I wonder if there is even a point to this game for someone who doesn't want to be a massive cock.
Its games like that, where not only am I locked into play because leaving will affect my chances of future games, make me frustrated beyond end. There is no point in learning particular and important game mechanics if all I do is join gangbangs waiting to happen.
So now, my question is. Is there someone out there willing to show me the ropes of this game, what to look for when joining lobbies so I don't get fucked sideways all the time, and to generally have a good time with this game.

Arma 2 can have a fair amount of immersion in coop (Arma 1 and the Arma 2 EW SP campaigns did too), but the Red Orchestra games have a constant sense of immersion. It's a certain sort of grittyness that Arma 2 can only just barely touch upon. Hopefully Arma 3 will have a bit more personality.

Russians tend to do that in every game. I'm pretty sure it's part of their culture or something, as the Chinese also do something quiet similar.
Add me on steam, and I'll play a few games with you when I have the time. (I'll be afk tomorrow morning for a bunch of hours as I'm going to an university info session.
Oh and some youtube MoW channels.

I always thought it was there for visual feedback, so you actually know what your guys are targeting and firing on which also allows the opponent to react as well.

yeah that's the case in the vanilla game, tracers were also added to the minimap for that reason in AS too... But in GSM tracers are only on MGs.

solution, join a friendly group of players who would be willing to help you learn to play.

Best thing you can do is get some friends together and then go to find a lobby.
Add me on steam if you want too and ill try to show you some of the ropes I know.

why don't we all just join the FP MoW group... jak and I play when we can, we'll probably be fine with another person playing with us
God damn it was a pain in the ass but fun at the same time

What difficulty was that on?
After i saw the screenshots i try the mission
And i forgot how pain in the ass the mission is,since the british keep sending their firefly and cromwell every time while you only got a Stug and a Panzer H (I think) to go against them, while their site with a shitload of Heavy AT in the back...
Are you guys having issues with MoW:editor because it wouldn't load up but it was working fine not that long ago.
