I like this game; But I don't like the fact that you can still Mortars even though you have No Artillery Mode on.
Are all the Skirmish missions attacking? I want to defend too.
does disabling artillery on the full version still disable the 'hero' units like it did in beta?
Worth buying?
To elaborate: For a MoW veteran, not a person who has never ever played any of the games.

The MP community will most likely migrate to this game, so if you're in it for the MP, yes. Otherwise, no. There are less than ten new maps, no new frontline maps, and a handful of new units. The singleplayer is rather uninteresting as well.
and visually the only real difference is that shadows = blue
so you're not really getting any bang for your buck except for slightly less frustrating multiplayer
And don't forget that there's no victory flag. I mean what the fuck.
Are there even permanent corpses in Assault Squad? They disappear really quickly, which sucks because my dudes run out of ammo real fast.
Assault squad is quite dissapointing, the SP is pretty mediocre with barely any mission variety. Also multiplayer is rather laggy and TBH I dont really see any major differences from the first men of war. Just new maps and improved graphics. Save your money and get the original men of war instead.
I hope men of war vietnam will be better.
As a MoW veteran I would say the MP has been massively improved. There haven't been one major improvement, but it's all the small changes, tweaks and improvements that made the MP so much better now.
I was kind of disappointed that the singleplayer is just the multiplayer Skirmish but with AI. Moreso that you still have to complete them in order. I suppose it was to be expected, AS being a MP focused expansion. And the MP is definitely better.

Well Men of War was almost the exact same game as Faces of War, they use same models, sounds, units, and MP maps.
MoW still uses an absolute shit ton of assets from Soldiers: Heroes of WW2.
Most of the European Town stuff is from that. Other things of note are plants, the lighthouse building and at least one of the churches.
Some are very noticably lower poly, like one of the carts.
Indeed. Digitalmindsoft loves to recycle content.
Personally, I love it. The new skirmish campaigns are going to take a really long time to finish and I like all the MP tweaking. Nice to have it all recently balanced as well, especially Japan, which can now sort of compete with the other nations more reliably.

I've said this time and time again. It's time they pick up the pace and develop something new for a change. Yes it's a small company, but there are only so many times you can repackage the same game before it gets old (especially something in a rather niche market). I'm begging to get tired of the same games. I still love the whole series to death, but I've basically played the same game 4 times now. First Heroes of WWII, then Faces of War, then Men of War, and then Assault Squad. Granted each time the game has gotten significantly better than its previous iteration, the changes aren't enough to make it an entirely new experience. At least now they are making the Vietnam game, but it's still basically the same thing. While it is nice that we are seeing more actual content, the engine is the same and the lack of dedicated multiplayer is severely discouraging. The same problems dominate all their games, infantry is still rather useless (with AS having tweaked it making infantry better but still pretty useless). The controls for infantry and their responsiveness is so clunky that in the end it just becomes sheer luck or a vehicular combat game. It's a great engine for vehicles no doubt, but I love the diversity of having actual functioning infantry as well.
Hell it's time for a new engine. I'll even accept if they simply made a huge overhaul and changed some of the core mechanics with infantry. The graphics are still solid for an RTS game, the vehicle physics are fine, and the actual flow of gameplay is great. They just need to actually change something major for once instead of giving us a few tweaks, 10 new maps, and a handful of new gamemodes/units.
I know I basically repeated the same thing over and over again, but it's something that has seriously bothered me about this series. It's becoming bland and grey.
What they should have done for singe player rather than the skirmish is replace it with an inbuilt Dynamic campaign generator.
Or have both.
Everyone is a "TANK R BEST GUIS" in co-op, Makes me sad :(
Despite what people initially said about the SP, I actually love it. I was playing the first skirmish and was having a great time. The only thing that pissed me off was when an enemy Ha-something-or-other got immobilised in the middle of the road and proceeded to fuck up any of my tanks that tried to advance. It racked up at least five (tank) kills.
Now I have pretty much no MP and no AT weapons and I am being swarmed by infantry. Nicht so gut.

Immobilized tank kicking your ass. iLol'd
The 203mm BL-4 is awesome.
So is For the Motherland. Fifty guys rushing in for 350mp fuck yeah
Its a shame that MoW: Vietnam didn't come out at the same time, then hopefully people wouldn't be complaining about no real SP. Granted that game will probably cost an extra £25.
Oh, and to the nay-sayers: MoW:V will have co-op

Will they hire at least one voice actor this time?

I really hope the T-54 wont be as terrifying as in WOT.
Yikes. The skirmish maps are pretty much impossible (at least for me) in singleplayer. It's ridiculous trying to manage an attack on one front while keeping a defense up on another one.
The Japanese armored car absolutely RAPES infantry. It has a hull MG, two side MGs, and a turret MG.
But only one guy inside to run all the MGs.
Approach it from both sides at the same time to kill it.
Or if you own it yourself, put some more mofos in.

The Germans and their damn artillery with range that is twice the length of any of mine keep blowing up my tanks and infantry. :argh:

This. Sure singleplayer missions are nice but a campaign like the DCG would be awesome.
Also I hope that after Vietnam, DMS will make an entirely new game, no more recycling.

This is why I only play with friends.

DMS isnt making Vietnam, they're only doing AS. Vietnam is made by the Russian 1C Company.

And DMS have said they're running a full dev team (which is actually pretty tiny) on supporting AS for a good while. Expect free and paid DLC.
