Hmmm, I really like Soldiers Heroes of world war II, Faces of War and Men of War, but i just tried the Assault Squad demo and I did not like it very much. I have no idea why but somehow it felt like a different game.
I'll play the demo a couple of more times...
Don't know if you care but for me the actual game, for some reason, felt really different from the beta, like an entirely new game, and the demo was....mediocre. I don't know how representative it is of the finished product.
In other news, i've now managed to get people together to beat the USA campaign....on easy.
Gonna try the German one on normal tomorrow.
you will be destroyed by relentless ai spam rush

and decent voice acting for once
I want a tutorial on how to make skirmish maps.
I followed the advice given and I am still having trouble with it spawning more units than I want.
I tell it to spawn only one T-34 and it gives a never ending stream of them.
Just 'ought to drop this here...

The crappy camera movement and the lack of sound effects ruined it for me.
I sure as hell hope they won't pass off an "attack-move" order as AI in the next game. The AI is really, really terrible. Voice acting too.
The only thing worthwhile is the multiplayer, which is not surprising.
Been playing AS with Germans against Americans recently... I hate pershing+super pershings spam. (3v3, normal flag capture mode...)
Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong?
I seem to lose every match online, the most recent being 2v2 against America as Germany and I got raped because they magically pulled a pershing out of their arse and I was unable to take it out throughout the entire match.
They had a calliope that MAGICALLY bounced off my Flak 88 and StuG, some bullshit red smoke + artillery capability and when I finally got my Tiger out it was one shot'd by the pershing. >:(
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Also all my team mate did was put vehicles on the map.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
and the pershing out-ranged all my pak guns.
:argh:
Couldn't you flank it with an assault squad or scout?

You don't use field weaponry against heavy tanks unless you somehow catch it in an ambush which never happens unless its controller sucks ass; use a scout or a sniper, scouts have dynamite sticks and snipers can call in off-map artillery with their red smoke grenades.
Flanking it with pumas/greyhounds also sometimes works, but is much riskier and usually only works early game when the enemy doesn't have a wall of dug-in defences. Works well against SPA though.
Thanks guys.
Anyway, is there a mod or map that gives unlocks all units and points while you defend against endless waves of derpy AI?
wow sorry but does anyone know how to split stacks in the inventory?
transferring ammo is such a chore, sometimes you accidentally click outside the box and it goes onto the floor
HNGgggggggggg

I will be honest. You probably suck at the small things, like infantry combat and early light vehicles openings.
If your opponent managed to buy heavy tank, you probably wasted your troops and then didn't had points to put enough pressure so he was able to save up for a heavy tank.
Saving up for a heavy tank is a valid strategy if you playing better than your opponent and you can hold ground with fever troops. ...its probably what your opponent did.
Or, as a gamble if you are loosing and are desperate to turn the tide. Its probably what you did but it rarely works. ...you can raise your chances if you save your troops to support the heavy.
Anyway, don't get upset, im too getting pretty owned, but im getting better with every game and you should too.
Various tips:
Don't keep your infantry too close to each other, but not too spread out so that they can't support each other.
Rifles and mg's back smg's to front and in ambush positions.
Use cheaper troops for defense.
Master the direct control grenade cooking technique.
You have to outgun defenders for a successful attack or you will find yourself in a meat grinder.
Salvage mg's from wrecks.
Keep your vehicles behind infantry.
Use flamethrowers and moltovs against infantry in buildings.
Don't be afraid to pull back to save your troops (specialy those valuable ones.)
Have fun even when loosing.

Well you could always play with a friend instead of someone completly random so you know what your team mate is doing.
all I want to do is to drive ferdinands into russian tankettes, is that too much to ask?

So you have completely ignored the Skirmish missions, then.

Red Tide was shit for me.
So you have completely ignored the Skirmish missions, then.
They don't offer any interesting gameplay, they're all the same "push forward, get tanks, snipe everything with tanks, airstrikes bluh blub bluh"
There's no defense stuff, sneaky stuff, guerrilla stuff etc

Is that what the AI is like in assault squad?
Yeah, once the player leaves the AI will just stand there dumbfounded until something shoots at them.
[editline]2nd March 2011[/editline]
Red Tide was also a double edged sword in that the missions were brilliantly made.
Just the fucking AI and 4 guys against an army bullshit ruined it.
I mean what the fuck is a tractor with an MG on it gonna do against an entire romanian fucking fronline anyway.

It's not been like that at all with me.
Defense stuff: There is plenty of it. I just played an awesome Skirmish where I was being overwhelmed but epically managed to survive by the skin of my teeth.
Sneaky stuff: What the hell. Everyone complained about it being in previous games. Now there is none and you're upset.

By sneaky stuff I mostly mean not forced sneak (IE if you're spotted fission mailed), but rather guerrilla action like much of Red Tide campaign is like, taking on superior numbers with a small team of elite troops, ambushing and capturing enemy equipment.
I beg to differ. I used the 101st airborne in the American missions to great effect in terms of guerilla stuff. Took out quite a few big Flak guns with em.
Wow. Just took on the first level of the German campaign with three friends. Went pretty smoothly, took everything up into the compound and to the far wall. Then the artillery found us. Pushed us back about halfway out of the compound, just barely managing to fend off the waves of shermans and infantry.
Then I made the mistake of mounting a huge mechanized assault up the left, lead by an empty truck to take the brunt of artillery fire, followed by a repurposed greyhound, then a halftrack full of panzergrenadiers, then a wirbelwind to take out infantry and light vehicles, then finally my Tiger at the back, flanked in an open field by a almost dead P4 to take the brunt of AT fire.
It went great at first, lots of tracks knocked out, but I had my infantry moving forward away from MG fire, and my tiger had a clear shot on the last remaining artillery piece. Got one hit on it, but only decrewed it. Then my allies made the mistake that cost us the game- they capped the upper center.
This triggered a massive counterattack that completely overran my stalled armor column, finishing off EVERYTHING before my tiger could knock out the artillery. All I had left at the end was about 20 wounded aimless tank crewmen. The enemy column swept right down through the left flank, then sweeping back over the compound and knocking us all back to the beginning of the map. At that point it was hopeless. A sturmtiger failed to stem the tide of Americans and our MP depleted slowly.
This was on normal difficulty. Might try again tomorrow.
Blah automerge failed.

I love this series and think it is the single best strategy game of all time, but I honestly believe innovation is needed.
Now imagine if there was just one game, on the most recent engine, but with all of the campaigns of the previous games put together, along with DCG and skirmish modes, with full co-op and the online of AS, Vietnam being a paid DLC.
That would be a contender for best strategy game of all time.

Just give me an official DCG that actually works and is balanced, I'd be satisfied.
Beat St. Hillaire today with four friends on Normal difficulty. Loved the city fighting, but it was definitely tough. We ended up winning by crashing a jagdpanther straight through a building as a gun position to clear out the last point and rush in infantry squads.
