Well I got assault Squad, liking it so far, but it suffers from the same problem every game in the series has: Helmets getting shot off every 5 seconds, one minor detail that really pisses me off.

Yes, same goes for frontlines. Holy shit it's just a massive artillery spam. You'd never think that lightning strikes twice in the same spot, and then apply the same logic to artillery in this game, but oh boy, you are so very wrong. It's also amazing how the first shot from a damn priest in that mode always takes out the most vital shit within its aim reticule. Trenches? More like artillery barrage magnets. I swear most of the damn rounds go off inside the trench than outside of it half the time.

Frontlines would be hella' better if you could have the same unit options(or most) as in other modes.

I brought Assault squad recently, and I have been playing the first four missions of online coop (skirmish) with a friend. We were having a really good time, but then it suddenly got damn hard in mission 5 and we lost on the second mission as germans, although my [b]one-man-army Günther Hellman roasted 30 americans alone with his flamethrower and set entire goddamn FRANCE on fire after the rest of my army was decimated.[/b] We lost due to a greyhound we simply coulden't kill, because it kept moving around with machineguns and infantry in support so it murdered our infantry, enabling them to push back and off the map.

I still can't say I understand what the fuck skirmish is. None of my tanks can frontally penetrate any of the enemy tanks, they have AT field guns that seem to have an extra 30-40 meters of range more than my tanks loaded with HE (AP vs Field gun = "what the fuck I thought I already killed you"), and only the most expensive, most elite infantrymen come with a [I]single[/I] bazooka/PIAT/Panzershrek.
And as soon as I take one step forward I'm pushed right fucking back by their endless tank spam that only becomes worse.

This is RIDICULOUS! For every shitty inferior tank I get they get 5 superior tanks, and 10 elite infantry squads to help bumrush their way to my spawn. I get a Matilda, they get 5 tanks I can't frontally penetrate (PzIV I think) and a few stugs. I get a Cromwell, I still can't frontally penetrate all 6 of them and their 3 AT men scattered about, while they just one shot my turret or break my engine or ammo rack me from 100 meters. Then I'm infantryless for the next 5 minutes while I get back the 1000 points it took to buy the piece of shit in the first place. I get a crusader and it's instakilled on the first contact by default.
I get SAS and they wreck shit for a little bit until the enemy's 7 MG men emerge from the mess of bushes, fire, smoke, wreckage, and dead bodies, and suppress my guys, which is only added to by the 4 armored cars interspersed between the 20 other dead ones. All while snipers pick away at my men and my sniper 50 meters away is doing SHIT ALL about it. I call in an artillery strike, kill 100+ guys, and in 30 seconds it's as though I never called an airstrike at all. I mass infantry, score a few successful PIAT snipes if my PIAT man didn't take the first bullet thrown at them to the face, and then suddenly there's armored cars EVERYWHERE and from the dead tanks bodies emerge thousands more infantry.

The only way I really won in solo skirmish was to play Russians and spam charge and 203mm shells.
So me and Comcastic were playing original MOW, had a pretty epic moment.
We were playing on Bocage, and the left side of the map was mostly unused so there was hardly anyone guarding the bridge other than a few smg infantry and a machine gunner. The enemy was turtling really hard so we called in artillery ourselves to counter them. We had a few artillery pieces set up, and eventually called in a panzerwerfer each, just to make it that much harder on them. Siezing the opportunity of the unused bridge, we ran some troops over in a flanking maneuver, only to have them killed by 2 hidden russian tanks. This whole time I've been using the left side of the map as a place to hide my panzerwerfer, and as soon as the tanks started moving towards the bridge I made the thing hightail it out of there. I turned my 150mm towards the 2 tanks, and a shot immobilized one of them, as the other started on the bridge. At this point, I had already called in a panzer IV, and it was booking it towards the bridge as fast as it could.
The road from the bridge to my base was very straight, and the panzerwerfer was very slow. This caused the 2nd russian tank to cross the bridge, stop, and take a single shot at the panzerwerfer. It barely hit it as I was turning the corner, so close infact that just as my PW was hit and immobilized, its momentum carried it around a house before coming to a complete stop, saving it from complete doom. This however was just barely around a corner, and the PW being a very lightly armored vehicle could have been completely destroyed with just one hit. As the russian tank was reloading, it was at this point that my Panzer IV plowed through a house, right into the middle of the road between the russian tank and the PW. The russian tank took a shot, which glanced off my armor, and my Panzer returned fire which breached the hull and took the russian tank out of commission. Mind you, when the Panzer plowed through a house it wasn't some small house. It completely plowed through a three story house, leaving a nice tank sized tunnel inside of it. This grand entrance combined with using it's body as a shield and destroying the enemy tank in one hit made it quite a sight to see.
Eventually, this tank's turret was damaged so I had to take it back to base, out of enemy fire, for repairs. During this time a small force of riflemen was enough to hold the bridge, while my panzerwerfer was being repaired. After repairing the Panzer IV I sent it back to the main road, and along the way was delighted to find out that my panzerwerfer was done being repaired. Soon I found myself busy trying to get its crew back in and manually driving it out of some rocks that it hit(although it's a treaded vehicle it can't turn on a dime like tanks can). While doing this, I was oblivious to the fact that a group of about 10-15 russian infantry had charged across the bridge and overcome the 3 riflemen that were guarding it, and they were running right at my panzerwerfer. As they were halfway there, my Panzer IV, which I had also forgotten about, arrived at its destination - inbetween the bridge and the panzerwerfer. What this resulted in was basically my tank and ~10 infantry guys coliding with eachother as they both passed the blind corner of a building. I gave some quick commands to my tank to try to fight the infantry off, but it was futile, there were too many of them in all around my tank, and just a single AT grenade from any of them could mean the end of my Panzer, as well as the death of my panzerwerfer which was still trying to make its way out of the rocks, just a mere 50 feet down the street. "Oh shit" I thought to myself as I pictured the majority of my good units being wiped out by a handful of infantry.
It was at this point that the radio crackled, and I looked down to see the messege "HEEEEAAAADDDDDSSS" - Comcastic
2 seconds later, a barrage of rockets came down from the sky, as I realized he fired his panzerwerfer battery right at my tank. It's over for the tank I figured, but it was worth it if I'd be able to save my own expensive panzerwerfer. I watched as the rockets fell, not a single one touching my tank. They fell all around my tank, killing everysingle enemy infantryman, and my tank came out without a scratch, not even a broken tread.
Coolest thing that has happened to me in this game by far. That Panzer IV went on to score itself a few tank kills, and the panzerwerfer lived on to fire several dozen more rockets into the enemy emplacements.

Brit and american tanks are shit, because america had air superiority doctrine and brit tanks were meant to fight PZ3's.
focus on infantry and arty or something, use tanks for flanking, never directly do engage.

Also I set all my tanks around 3 IS3's, well out of their range to be ready to attack while I do mop up.
I arty some infantry, look back at my tanks and I discovered that my köeningtiger had manhandled all of them in the meanwhile.
I missed all the action but I managed to capture one
Yeah, skirmish is pretty insanely hard. Snipers and MGs, mortars and bazookas are essential to win. Don't spam tanks as they eat your resources and the early ones are terribad at countering theirs.
If you, ever, at any time capture a 17-pdr or an artillery piece during the skirmish, guard it with your life. They WILL kill their shit good.
now I was set up against around 10 IS2's, some TD's and T34/85's.
I encountered no casualties amongst my armor, only some shot ricosheted off and killed my hummel somehow and I got mad with my AA truck and sent it to kill a small group of IS3's.
Captured 2 more IS2's.
Now that you think about it it's more like a PMC simulator:
You get money to do shit, you have to buy your own units and fuel manage your own troops and you can sell captured stuff.

Is the 'Move at will' for infantry any helpful? Because it would be nice to have infantry immediately head for cover instead of standing in front of a Heavy MG as soon as their cover collapses.

It always scatters troops way too much for me, hard to track where they're are that way. At least they know how to run away from enemies with it on.
Found out yesterday with a buddy that the daimler can still fire and turn it's gun when it's flipped upside down.
And you found out I was a ninja goliath/Radio operator controller.

I want to love the game so much, and I do have fun with it, but there's just so much bullshit swirled in with what makes it cool. Surprisingly enough multiplayer doesn't really make me mad.

Then quit trying, or aim for the sides or the tracks, or the turret. Trying to attack a tank head on, even with another tank, is silly.

Stop trying to take out AT guns with tanks then, either use infantry or mortars. Since AT guns are meant to take out tanks, what makes you think trying to take them out with tanks is a good idea?
