I have a question though, is there something I'm doing wrong when I'm throwing grenades - most of the time the guys just run out in front of a tank in attempt to throw it.
sounds about right

Every single unit in the game can and will find a way to kill itself.
If you EVER want to throw grenades at anything use direct control. You can spam frags and smoke if you know the infantry are within range by just clicking the frag button and somewhere near the infantrymen, but if the infantry is out of range the AI sets off on a quest to commit suicide. With frags you can cook them if you hold it down, like any game (only hold it down for 1/8 to 1/4 for mid-long range throws). For AT grenades always throw it towards the back of the vehicle towards the engine, so it guarantees to affect something and at the very least destroys the engine, at best the engine catches on fire and the tank explodes.
And for bonus cool points: Steal the dynamite from a dead tank, go into direct control, get it out, starting cooking it and run towards the enemy target.
Too bad you can't sprint in direct control.

the thing i noticed with AT grenades is that it doesn't really matter where you throw them; they're almost always guaranteed an instant all-out kill. nothing can be salvaged because it just turns even the most beastly of armored carriages in to heaps of scrap

unless that's just me being incredibly lucky all of the time
Singleplayer sucks. Why? Because it counted as a failure when I rammed two trucks and a KV-1 into a convoy, annihilating the fuel trucks, causing a gigantic firey explosion that destroyed all the vehicles and killed everyone. That was a victory, mate.
They're too far away so they run closer so it'll reach the target
Also you can cook normal grenades in direct control mode, just hold down the trigger
Don't cook more than one third of the timer though, or it'll probably just explode in midair

At that point of the war a KV-1 was more valuable than a lost enemy convoy
You should have been able to easily destroy the convoy anyway with the tank and AT guns provided
The second mission on the Soviet campaign is so terrible. 'Here's a small pile of guys, with only ~3 AT riflemen, a few AT guns, and three tanks. Hold off ~100 German tanks and ~1000 German soldiers. :smithicide:

What? Those are the best damn missions in the game. Defense missions rock and are intense as fuck.
It's not that bad if you know what you're doing, mine every single passage and don't try to use the BT against tanks

Missions 2, 4 and 6 of the soviet campaign are all defense missions and also the best

I was surprised at how quick the difficulty shot up. It's pretty hard for a 2nd mission. I was able to hold them off just long enough with 6 guys left :v:
Probably could have done much better if I was able to find the button to plant mines.

i love that one german bonus (i think it was anyway) mission where you get artillery support too and by the end of the defense run the entire village you were supposed to defend is just flattened beyond belief and all that remains is your massive amount of armor, infantry and smoldering rubble

I literally. Shit you not. was at 99 percent then they somehow broke through.

Oh hell yes that one
There's like a million enemy Pershings and this is MoW, not AS, so they're not nerfed to fuck
I literally. Shit you not. was at 99 percent then they somehow broke through.
hahaha dude my first run on that level was co-op and we RAGED when we got to 99 per cent and a stray, i fucking am not kidding, a STRAY panzer round just flies past a tank and smashes in to the train
it was such bullshit

Take a look at the minimap:

Pick up mines from the boxes at the middle area (right click the box, and when the two inventories appear just doubleclick the AT mine). Then walk to the area where you wish to start the mining, click the gears, click the mine button (you can drag it to the quickbar and it'll stay there permanently), and then click where you would like the mines to reach
It's better to mine the roads leading up to the station vertically, not horizontally, as horizontally mines are wasted when tanks don't actually drive near the sides and when mine vertically you get more hits per strip. Don't bother with AP mines on the roads, at best they destroy the tracks of tanks and at worst the tanks just plow right through.
Seriously, spend most of the match mining every possible passage and when your outer defenses finally fail, it'll be impossible to take your station.
Also protip: you can use a full squad to mine an area, simply select the squad and fill the inventory as normal, those items that don't fit the leader will go to his subordinates.
You can fill the truck with mines too if you wish, you won't have to make the long trips back to the crates.

My first time was worse :v:
I was angry because at 95%, the Germans rounded up twenty tanks and rushed me. They killed my lower defenses, and my infantry were flanked and outnumbered, so they couldn't get down to support. Oh well, the first mission of the German campaign was fun as fuck.
The lower defenses are there just to buy time while you mine the roads
I miss combat FFA, it was a fun game mode when you were an uneven amount of people.
I held them far past what was in the screen shot.
[editline]9th July 2011[/editline]
It probably was just a stray tank shot.
I've had this game for a fair old while now, only just got Assault Squad the other day (I think I prefer the former), really enjoy working with small unit tactics, platoon level stuff

hah
in a 5 vs 5 all i did was create single infantry squad like airborne and rangers and use that squad until it died then got another and started over
ended up with the highest score like 2 times
first class heavy infantry? more like cross country runners god damn

The MoW games are so amazing in the fact that there is so much detail.
For example did you know that an AT rifle shot to the outer wheels of a tracked vehicle is an instant de-track? I found out while messing about in SP, it works in MP too. Funny seeing a heavy tank get detracked from a single AT-rifle shot.
Or the fact that you can make a booby trap by dropping shit like fuel cans, and flamethrower backpacks near the rear or sides of an abandoned vehicle, and snipe it? The moment the repair it and get it, the flames will spread over the engine and cause an explosion.
Or that the engine of a Elefant tank destroyer is in the front, thus throwing a molotov on the hood is an instant tank-on-fire-boom.
So much to find.
Or, one of my favorite things so far, when up against USA, and they do the ol' calliope spam from behind a small hill, use direct control and load HE. Aim for the tank, and aim upwards until the reticule comes upon the rocket launching rails themselves. Shoot 1 to 2 he rounds towards it and the launcher will FLY OFF IN AN ARC, turning the expensive artillery tank into a normal crappy sherman.
The launcher will usually stick out above the hill they are behind, so this is twice as fun to do it multiple times and cause massive amounts of rage, seeing as they just wasted a good part of their resources on the best rocket spam in the game, only to have it become completely useless.
I also like how every tank has logical weak spots like view slits, the bottom of the tank (easy to exploit with bazookas and hills), the top of a tank, and the mentioned outer wheels.

What I really want is a Winter War mod for this game, this game is like fucking built for that.
There's one but with German units who use the standard gray outfit
What I really want is a Winter War mod for this game, this game is like fucking built for that.
The soviets wouldn't even need snow camouflage, the winter went into full speed with the soviets going in ass-first with puke-green camo in the completely white fields of Finland, because all the smart commanders had been shot beforehand by their own comrade (Stalin).
It also featured T-28's and remote-controlled tanks.
men of war games have really bad path finding but other then that they are very good

Men of War games have no AI

I fucking hate them. Can't even drive over a fucking bridge.
The last time I criticised the AI (When it isn't being controled by additional scripts) and summed it up as being 'Shoot at things if they come close. If somebody makes a noise all within X distance run directly towards it until close enough to shoot at things. If you don't find them stand around at the point of the sound forever... A dev showed up in the thread and told me off :tinfoil:
